I recently moved to Maine and contacted Kara's Petcare on the recommendation of my vet. I was so…read moreexcited because it seemed like they would be able to offer daycare for my dogs and some auxiliary training if needed. They also said they did transport to the daycare facility and boarding on occasion. It seemed perfect. I should mention that there are Kara's pet care facilities in Portsmouth, Berwick, and Falmouth. First I was asked to set up a meet and greet with one of their associates at my home so she could meet my pets. It took me many tries to get through many unreturned phone calls, but finally we did set up the meet and greet and that went well. Then I was asked to set up an app and an account before we could actually schedule any dog care. So I set up the app and the account. Then I was asked to drive my dogs to their facility to see if the dogs would "be happy there." So I drove my dogs 25 minutes to the facility. When I got to the facility I was told that they were supposed to stay there for a day assessment and then I should come and pick them up. This was not communicated to me earlier, and I had not budgeted an extra hour of driving back-and-forth. Then they would reschedule the assessment and they would come and pick up my dogs for the day-long assessment. All before any dog care could be scheduled. So, still not on the calendar. So to summarize: you need to go through a long process of scheduling a meet and greet, then you need to have the meet and greet, then you need to sign up for the app, then your dogs have to be assessed to see if they will be happy. I'm just thinking that anyone who's busy enough to need dog care is too busy for this multilayered, multi-step, poorly communicated process where phone calls, texts, and emails are returned only about half the time.

York Bark & Play makes sure all of their clients are up to date on immunizations. Their facility is very neat and quite roomy. They offer many options for my dogs stay, including hours of socialization. My girls had to stay over an extra night and York Bark & Play had no problem accommodating them. When I picked them up, they were freshly shampooed and relaxed. They were tired out from all the socialization! When we pulled into York Bark & Play a couple of weeks later (just to see how they'd react) they got excited. A place they are happy to go must have treated them very well indeed.

This past year we left our 16 year-old dog with trepidation but her care was suburb and our worries in vain. The younger dog enjoys going there, going for long walks in the woods. We never worry when leaving our dogs there as we know the care will be professional and kind and caring. They are rescue mixed-breed dogs but that doesn't matter to the owners. So much space to run around safely inside fenced areas with lots of trees for shade too. Inside, this building is immaculate. Considering how many dogs are here you'd never know it. The floors are spotless. Our dog attends daycare here twice a week and knows when it's a Take Five day. She is so excited she is usually pulling me into the car.
