They offer many options for my dogs stay, including hours of socialization. My girls had to stay over an extra night and York Bark & Play had no problem accommodating them. When I picked them up, they were freshly shampooed and relaxed. They were tired out from all the socialization! I can't say enough great things about this place. A small yet informative background on me and my dog: I am a complete freak about my dog. I have a 1.5 year old yellow lab named Gus who requires a lot of exercise and a lot of attention. I boarded Gus for the first time at York Bark and Play as I was getting married down the street in Ogunquit and I was extremely nervous about leaving him somewhere. I emailed York Bark and Play 8 months or so before the reservation and they were so easy to work with. They were extremely accommodating and never once made me feel like I was asking too many questions/being annoying (because I am when it comes to my son Gus). They responded quickly to all of my questions and were professional and kind. I dropped Gus off and he didn't even say goodbye to me (rude) and was just so excited to be with some of his new friends. The kennel seemed very clean which also made me feel a lot better. The staff uploaded pictures to facebook every day which made me feel so at ease. He looked like he was having a blast. Gus is also very prone to ear infections and like all labs he loves being in the water. The staff cleaned his ears every night (I provided the ear cleaner) at no extra charge. Gus also HATES when people touch his ears so the fact he let the staff clean his ears should prove how well they treated him and how much he loved them. When we picked Gus up the nice lady was telling us stories about Gus. She definitely picked up on his quirky personality so clearly everyone spends a lot of time getting to know the dogs. He had a nice bath and nail clipping (also free of charge) and NO EAR INFECTION. I wish I lived closer so I could send Gus here to daycare every day. The prices are beyond reasonable and everyone is so nice. I am very hard to impress when it comes to my dog but I can't thank YB&P enough for taking great care of my baby Gussie. It is so comforting to know that when we come up to Maine we can leave him with people we trust. read more

My fur son, Scooby, is 52 pounds of puppy. He is short-haired and all I wanted was a bath and nail trim for him. I called around town and the prices ranged from $40-80. I called Bark & Play and they wanted only $27! I have heard good things about this place, so I dropped Scooby off at 1 pm and picked him up at 430 pm. I wanted to like this place, but I really didn't have a positive experience. My dog was boarded here recently for an extended weekend. I never got a feeling from the staff in multiple encounters that they were true dog lovers. You can tell when someone is genuinely warm/kind to your dog, and I never got that feeling. Dog owners know what I mean. My dog's bed was returned to me coated in dog hair... My dog doesn't shed, so immediately I question the cleanliness of the area she was boarded in. She was also given a bath as a bonus for staying three-plus nights... A nice perk, but she is a maltese, and was not brushed or blowdried after the bath (anyone associated with dogs should know this is a standard part of bathing a maltese or poodle, bichon, etc.) so her fur was matted. I question the staff's knowledge of dogs if they aren't aware of this. My last complaint was that when my flights were cancelled, my dog ran out of food. I asked the staff if they could cook her 1 egg per day in place of her regular food to avoid any stomach issues she might experience from switching dog food brands. They obliged, but charged me $5 per egg for the two days I was delayed. Since a dozen eggs is usually $2, this is by definition price gouging, considering I was delayed by extreme weather. I will be looking for another dog boarder. read more

I am the owner of a 15 month yellow lab. I can not praise Liz York, her employees and her operation enough. The first time we took him to her he slept in the car on the way home and we had to wake him up for dinner. We planned to use her only on the weekends when our two work schedules conflicted. I will admit that we go to her almost everyday. Our dog has lost weight, is tired at night when we are and is literally pulling us to the door to get to Bark and Play every morning. I swear he can not wait to get in and play with all of his friends. I spend a fair amount of money on this dog from toys to food and insurance. We were going on vacation and we needed to find a special place for our sweet, old girl. I am not a fan of our local place and the other kennel we would go to in Maine was further up than where we were going. I did a Yelp search and found this lovely kennel. The registration was easy and they asked the right questions. You can see pictures of your dog daily on Facebook. They also bathe and clip your dog's nails before you come to pick up. My only wish is that the hours for pick-up in the morning were a little later and more in tune to when people normally check out of their hotels because I can not get everyone moving and out of hotel check out before 9 am and even if I did what would I do with the old girl until we are ready to head out. The other pick up is at 4 which is ok if you plan on sticking around which we did and found stuff to do until then. I would totally recommend this lovely place! read more

I don't have enough good things to say about York Bark & Play! Liz is so friendly and you can tell she really loves animals. Our lab Finn has stayed several times and always is tired and happy when he comes home. Her facility is very nice and always clean. She is also accommodating with Finn's medication and special food. I also love how she keeps updated pictures on Facebook of what the dogs are up to during the day. It's great to see them having so much fun! When Finn first stayed I called constantly to check on him and she was always so nice and more than happy to tell me how he was and what he was up to. York Bark and Play has been AMAZING! I started my Chow Chow there at 13 weeks of age as I wanted to socialize him properly. Liz and staff were fantastic at making sure Yogi was safe and behaving well. I believe part of the reason he LOVES other dogs and people is because of the fun and well supervised environment at Bark and Play where he attended 3 days a week as a young dog! Yogi and his doggy cousin, Wrigley, attend Bark and Play once a week still. I actually drive out of my way to bring them to Bark and Play, passing by two other doggy daycares on my way, because I trust them. Even my aunt drives from Dover, NH to bring her dog to Bark and Play because I speak so highly of them as a wonderful environment for even her 10 pound dog to get good supervised doggy play time! When I pull in the parking lot my two dogs are out of control excited in the back seat and they just about drag me in the door to begin a fun day of playing! They are always greeted happily and they love all the staff members! The best part!!?? When I pick them up at the end of the day I have two dogs in comas in the back seat of the car! A tired dog is a happy dog! I have boarded Yogi at Bark and Play numerous times and I have always felt he is in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment- allowing me to enjoy my vacations knowing that he is on vacation too! I love and appreciate the pictures that are uploaded onto Facebook everyday! I work in the animal field and I recommend many clients to Bark and Play. The owner of this establishment not only refused to honor a voucher I had bought, but lied about the normal costs of boarding at the facility. For example, she stated that whereas boarding was only $10. per night, the daycare associated with a dog stating overnight was $35., putting the daily cost of boarding at $45.. I had a voucher for two nights of boarding.which she refused to honor. Instead she charged me $75.00 for three days of daycare and $20. for two nights. Her website clearly states that daycare is included in the boarding cost, which is $35.00 per each 24 hours period. I felt like me dog was being held ransom when I went to pick him up. I have never encountered such blatant lies in direct contradiction to the company's own website info. Nor have I ever had a company refuse to honor the terms of their own online deal. Liz and the staff are professional and seem to treat the dogs in their care like their own. I believe they genuinely enjoy taking care of them. Our dog is always excited when we take him there and exhausted from all the fun when we pick him up. It is great to have a place that you can feel good about leaving your four legged family member. The facility is clean and updated with heated floors which also goes a long way in making us feel good about leaving our dog, especially in the winter. As a bonus, because of their resident hens, we can pick up a dozen fresh eggs when we go. read more

York Bark & Play is a great place for a dog to spend an active day. Our 3year old black lab is energetic, boyish and very playful; he is wagging his tail when we pull into Bark & Play and eagerly heads in. When he's picked up, he's relaxed, appropriately tired and not exhausted from overstimulation. Liz & Sarah know dogs and I've been pleased with her judgment when jasper has needed some time out. He's stayed at B&P for one long stay and one short one. He's done well, and the absence of worry about him laying in a crate all day made the vacations even better. These guys are great! We were traveling in the area and needed a place for doggie day care for two days. I made a call, filled out the paperwork and we were all set! They are very nice and helpful and accommodating. Our baby had a great day while we were able to see a few sights and stores we couldn't have if we had him with us. I have watched Liz and her business grow from day one and haven't hesitated to refer anyone I know in the area to York Bark and Play. The best thing about this place is that the DOGS COME FIRST. Their care and safety is put above all else, and each dog is looked at as an individual. This past spring I was up for a horse training clinic and during the day had Rufus do daycare. When we pick him up in the evenings he's completely exhausted and sleeps on the way home. Nola is good with all kinds of dogs, large and small and by bringing him to Liz I know he's well taken care of, gets plenty of exercise and is happy. Liz's prices and rates are affordable and well priced. Liz and her staff are knowledgeable,are certified in dog/cat first aid and CPR and love animals. I've recommended York Bark and Play to several of my friends and will continue to do so. We've yet to board him there, but I know if we ever go away and need a safe, warm, clean caring place for him to go, it's with Liz at York Bark and Play.
