Like everyone else on here they are snakes, liars and thieves. I could go into the same old stories but it sounds like a broken record. The people that they actually do set you up with are so horrid that you are looking for the nearest exit sign to escape. So this is basically how it goes down.. if a date is set up and that's a big if, matches are then typically put on hold, no longer available, we never heard back, we are moving on, cancelled for all sorts of reasons, scheduling conflicts, etc etc blah blah blah. Either these people don't truly even exist or they have a list of excuses next to them and check off as they go. Yes, as others, I'm requesting a refund and am going to fight to the end of time while they are trying to lock me into my contract and continue to match me with "Mr. I don't know why I joined either". this is a shamefull scam. DO NOT APPROACH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE STEALING YOUR MONEY. and cause emotional damage in the process. they take your money and pretend to be professional, until you pay the fee; then the show begins, in which they pretend that they find matches for you, but the dates never hapen. what a waste of money, I cannot believe how naive I was. my initial discussion was with Chana Bromley, she was very persistent and convinced me that they have a database with 4000 persons. so I signed up with the IJL in Toronto on October 4th, 2019. I chose the shorter package version: 3 dates guaranteed to hapen in 3 months, for the price of 2,500 CAD + tax. after signing the contract it was very hard to reach anybody at their office number. I dealt several times on the phone and via email with Jan Crist-McConnachie, whose title was "Matchmaker", but generally very annoying person after pestering on the phone, finally they arranged my first date at the end of October 2019 at a restaurant in midtown Toronto. my date and I did not not have much chemistry. the next 2 dates guaranteed by the contract did never occur. in December it was increasingly hard to reach anybody in the IJL office. then around mid_December I received a call from a guy named Jose, who told me that the Toronto office has some reorganization issues, and that he will handle my contract from his location in Miami. three times in the following months Jose communicated to me that he found a date for me. once in December, and 2 times in January. In each case Jose called me and confirmed the details for the date, but then in the day when the date was supposed to hapen I've got a call or email from Jose telling me that the guy who I was supposed to meet cancelled the date (one guy cancelled because he had to travel, 2nd guy got sick in the day of our date, and no reason for cancellation was offered for the 3rd guy). these last minute cancellations seem made up, actually I believe these were made up characters by IJL, not real persons. at this point I asked Jose (via email, since i cannot reach him any other way) to reimburse me for 2/3 of the contract that I paid and was not executed by IJL. also I filed a complain with the Better Business Bureau. read more

What do you know April 22 came , without a call or text or email, I realize things come up but no communication, Strike 1. April 27th came around and guess what, another voicemail message... Listen I have a quick question for you call me when you get this I'm at 312-881-5223" For a dating service you would think they would have created a profile and not called me as if they didn't know me. I explained you know "I'm done with a service!" This company "It's Just Lunch" should be organized enough to realize that busy people can't just sit around waiting for "It's Just Lunch" matchmakers to figure out how a business should run. And with the plethora of bad press about ripping off people one would think that a change needs to occur to change the vantage of the other professionals that they are trying to earn our trust and business from. Believe everything you are reading in theses low rated reviews. It's real. I spent over 22K USD with IJL and the Elite service. I am an executive and I dont have much time to look on line. The men paired with me by this service were never close to what I would consider settling with and the service continuously didn't listen. There was a follow up comment from Erika on my original post back in August, where she lied and said I never asked to be removed from their system. Instead of removing me from the system like she did for another woman who left a scathing Yelp review, she attempts to invalidate my experience with IJL. I will upload those text messages as I hate dealing with liars and scammers. I thought about deleting the texts to remove all traces of this company from my life but I knew one day I'd need the proof. It was only during the INITIAL CALL that I ended the call with saying "it was nice speaking to you." After researching this horrible company I decided not to go further and left a message stating just that! They did not want to accept my request and still continue not to because they are bullies and harassers. Erika continued to harass me after I sent those replies telling her that IJL was not for me! It was not nice communicating with her anymore! I sent 2 text messages in reply to the ones she sent me where she was adamant about other reviews the company received. You are the worst Erika. The absolute worst. You tried to manipulate my words and apply them to cast you and your "company" in a good light but it's called context. This is a whites only match making service. They had been marketing to me for years. When I finally decided I could afford it I called. I told them my preference was for African American men. They said they didn't have any in their membership but they would work on it. Really? No black men in Chicago in 2022? I said never mind. They said give them a month. They asked if I was "open" to Caucasian men. I said I would be open if they met my other criteria, but that I did not want all of the matches to be white. They called 2 weeks later saying they had a great match. He cancelled 2 times just before the date. They went on to match me with a very old white men who made racially offensive comments. And another who was "looking for his black magic woman" referencing a song. The 3rd one looked like he had died last month. When I asked them on what criteria they matched me they were vague and clearly had no basis for the match that even came close to what they had asked me during the interviews. They never sent a contract until I requested it. They had signed it for me electronically before I even saw it. while they ask you all about your preferences and who you are, etc., the contract says that they only match on religion, age, and parental status. They do not tell you this. When you ask them why they matched you with this man, they only say they think he's a great match for you. This company is a waste of time and money. Contrary to what they assure you at the outset, before they have your hard earned cash in hand, they have no one in their client base worthwhile or remotely close to what you told them you were looking for. If I could give them a negative review I would!! On October 30th, I decided to join IJL. I specified exactly what I wanted, including a payment plan for this service. I had just gone through a major surgery, and this was a very large expense. Vanessa claimed Sabrina understood. Vanessa said it was such a great opportunity, and such a great deal going on, and something that I shouldn't pass up. Sabrina, the lady in accounting, said the package would be $2700, and the payment plan would come out to be as low as $198 a month. I agreed to that. The discount was $500 off on the package. She mentioned that most people like to pay it all off with a credit card, where they can just pay that and earn points or miles on it. I was very specific that I wanted a plan. Not only did I state that to her, but also to the matchmaker on multiple phone calls. I am not unclear where the miscommunication was. A week later, I checked my credit card, and the full amount had been charged on my card. I called my matchmaker, and asked her what happened. Even she was aware that I wanted a payment plan. She called Sabrina and left her a voicemail. I never heard back from Sabrina. Not only is this very frustrating, but it is extremely unprofessional and dangerous to mishandle someone else's money. I met with my ¨team¨ matchmaker, Vanessa, as well as Morgan, over a zoom call. Morgan explained how everything would go, she would call me with my matches set the dates up, and the zoom calls. Then the next day she would contact me and ask me how the date went so everything would be fresh. I would let her know what I liked and didn't like about him so then they would "fine tooth" out the next matches. Morgan also mentioned that she would contact me the day prior to the dates and leave me a voicemail with the details of the match so I would have their information going into the date the next day. I told Vanessa what my criteria was for a match. It was very straightforward. Vanessa mentioned how all their clients are successful men, and have their business and affairs all in order. She also mentioned that if I wanted to pause my membership, I could. She never mentioned a fee being involved. I later connected with Morgan. She told me about my first two matches. They sounded great. She told me that prior to my dates, they will call me and leave me a message with all the details. This never happened. Not once. When I asked why I never received them, she stated that that is not part of the package, and that I have to specifically ask for it. However, earlier we had agreed that I was going to get a message with the details. Once again, I am unclear where the miscommunication occurred. Later on, I had one date that was scheduled two weeks after I received his details. This is what my $2700 is getting me? After I reported my feedback on the two dates, I was matched with a man that didn't have a single quality I asked for. I was beyond disappointed since I'm paying a service nearly $3,000 to find me a match. My fourth match was a no-show. When we finally connected a week later, I found out that he works as a car detailer, and delivers pizza on the side. His behavior seemed odd and erratic, to the point where I thought he was under the influence of something. I must stress again that Vanessa had explicitly told me that this is a place with successful men with their affairs in order. My fourth match, however, was far from that. Fast forward to December 1, 2020. I get a charge on my card for $98.00 from IJL. Wondering what that was, I called to find out it's a membership fee. This was never brought up to me when Sabrina went over everything. I called to speak to someone else from the "team". Kathleen mentioned that there is a fee, along with a pause fee of $28.00 a month. I would have never agreed to any of this had that been mentioned to me earlier when this service was being explained to me. It was incredibly misleading. The first time I spoke to Sabrina to go over the finances, I hesitated and expressed much concern because of the initial membership fee. That would have been the perfect opportunity to mention the monthly fees and the pause fees. The company says that they cannot guarantee chemistry, but apparently they can also not guarantee proper communication, attention to detail, forthcomingness with existing paying clients, and taking accountability for their lack of efficiency. I would not recommend this company to anyone!! They scam people, and are complete frauds! I'm trying to get a portion of my money back, and they keep saying no! Whatever their method is, absolutely zero attention was given to what I said I was looking for in a man. Quality of Matches - save yourself a helluva lotta money and just join match.com or eharmony. You can at least see what the guy looks like before you initiate contact and chat with him to decide if you even want to meet him. Most the guys I met were dorks, duds, or in one case, a guy who thinks velcro sneakers and sweat pants is acceptable to wear on a first date (or anywhere for that matter). Feedback after dates - what's the point? Nothing I said changed anything, and the only satisfaction I got was bitching out one of the beauty-school drop-outs/secretaries for setting me up with a guy who was mentally retarded (no joke- he told me so) and 15 years older than me. Every girl you talk to sounds exactly the same, and when you get on the phone with them they are racing through the phone call as if you're one of million clients they have to get out of the way that day. "It's Just Lunch" is definitely as good as it gets when it comes to matchmaking. I've tried online dating sites for several years and finally took a chance on getting help from a professional. The only thing I regret, is not utilizing It's Just Lunch's services earlier in my life. I felt an immediate connection with my matchmakers and they really took the time to get to know the person I am from the inside out. It's often hard to describe everything you're looking for in a match, but IJL was able to identify my needs, beyond what I was able to verbalize. Like a lot of reviews I've read, this is THE worst dating service in the world. I may have been slightly naive, thinking maybe this would be like the show on Bravo "The Millionaire Matchmaker", but it is nothing like that at all. I was excited to think someone - one person - would be so professional as to be my personal matchmaker and listen to what I want and save me the time and energy of trying to find him. Boy was I wrong. First, unlike the show MM, you don't get a personal matchmaker. You get a slew of 20 year old girls who are way too perky and must be trained to all sound exactly the same. None of them view your profile, nor do they discuss with each other my likes/dislikes, wants and desires. I literally was just set up with someone who has children. It is in my profile that at this time I'm not interested in dating men w/ children. This "matchmaker" obviously didn't read my profile UNTIL I TOLD HER! What kind of "professional" service is that!? You don't get someone who is actually interested in taking the time to weed out the "bad ones" and actually set you up on a true, hopefully hit-it-off date. I have been set up on a few dates with men where I would literally think to myself, did these girls put even AN OUNCE of thought into this set up? What girl in their right mind would think this person, who wouldn't even get out of his chair nor look me in the eye and gave me a limp handshake would be suitable for a girl like me? And I'm not trying to be narcissistic, by any means. These girls' thinking caps are not on, nor do they seem to truly care. This review is way overdue because my experience with IJL was so awful that I had to block it out for a long time but now feel ready to warn others and hopefully save some people a lot of $$$. As everyone has already stated in other reviews, this is a complete SCAM!! Please save your $$$ and do anything else. I had signed up for a short-term 3 month period, and done a phone interview with them to explain what I was looking for and the very first date I was set up on the date was a no-show. I couldn't even believe it! I couldn't get in touch with them until the following Monday because that was on a Friday. So they apologized profusely and vowed to set me up with other men who would always be confirmed. In the midst of all this I realized how completely disorganized they were when they kept having different people call and ask me for my schedule repeatedly and tried to set me up on days and times that I was unavailable. They set me up with two men who were not local and most people who were absolutely nothing like what I had described, either physically or personality. The dating pool from my experience was a lot of total losers. One thing I always did was ask further questions about the info they tried to casually omit when they were telling me about these "wonderful guys". The worst experiences of all were that they pressured me into meeting up with the guy who had previously no-showed on me, so I already had bad feelings towards him and he turned out to be awful anyway and the last date I went on was at RJ Grunts, where my date informed me it was his "favorite restaurant in Chicago". Nothing against that place but there are so many amazing restaurants in the city that I was just floored. That guy brought props to the date. Literally props to talk about. I was so incredibly embarrassed and humiliated. At one point when I tried to get out of the whole thing, I met with one of the contacts at their office in Chicago and she tried to reassure me that they were really legit and everything would get better. Things never improved and I would just ultimately recommend that you RUN away from this awful scam. Spend this $$$ on a vacation, a watch, a shopping spree, save it, anything else but please trust me DO NOT do this. I still consider hiring a lawyer to this day to somehow recover the $$$ I wasted but unless it was a sure thing I wouldn't want to lose any more $$$. Btw, they did try to contact me once after I forced my contract period to end because I couldn't take it anymore but I really let them have it and they have not dared try to contact me since. Also, I am 5'7" and 120 lbs, in my 30s, active, younger looking than my age, and attractive as well as an accomplished professional. I am very normal and fun. My second time with IJL was a disaster. Every match kept getting further and further from what I was stating in my feedback sessions after each date. Morgan did not listen to my comments. I don't even think she cared who she matched me with. She seemed more concerned with giving me a "date" than a "match" . Then they called and tried to sell me the Elite for $15K more. However, this has been the biggest waste of time and money. They have more Women then Men and don't think the caliber is equal. Also, there was misrepresentation on the amount/frequency of dates. You meet with someone when you first sign up and they make it seem like they are going to be your advocate and find the matches best suited but then you never hear from them again and just get calls from other people pushing their clients as the "must meet man". The descriptions of these men are all the same...they are always attractive, fun, successful. To Anne H's point, the NY times article was great. I sent it to "my matchmaker" (I use that term loosely as I don't think there is anyone really looking out for you) as support that I was not alone in the frustrations I was communicating to her. However, she is refusing a refund (after only being set up on 3 dates in the 5 months since I joined!!!) and said they will keep my money and not set me up on any more dates. According to the lawsuit, the site' customers claimed they were overcharged for allegedly personalized matchmaking services while disregarding daters' stated preferences such as age, employment and marital status, and criminal background. Filed in 2007 and then amended in 2008, the complaint states: "In fact, despite promises to the contrary, It' almost completely ignores the client' stated preferences. Rather, the company makes matches which are driven entirely by monthly quota requirements, and which wholly and categorically disregard the client' stated "desires, goals [and] motivations." In addition to misrepresenting its services, the lawsuit further claims that It' Just Lunch violated New York state that prohibits dating services from using contracts that require payment in excess of $1,000. Under the terms of the proposed settlement, It' Just Lunch would provide $60 million in vouchers for dates and $4.75 million in cash. Specifically, plaintiffs who opt in to the settlement would receive a voucher for one free date, users in some cities would receive two, which have an estimated value of $450 each. Further, It' Just Lunch agreed to post a customer pledge to its website and change its contracts to include a commitment honoring its customers' specified preferences for dating matches, according to the motion for preliminary approval of the deal. I had been working with Kimberly. She was very nice but very pushy. I continued to tell her that I would need to think about it because it was a lot of money (and even after that she continued calling me twice that day and she was calling my mother even after I told her I would need some time to think about it)and she asked me questions I was extremely uncomfortable giving the answers to, that quite frankly weren't any of her business. Maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't, but I realize this is these people's livelihood and with the amount of times they call you maybe they only get commission but they really need to ease up on the amount of times they call you, and they need to watch their questioning. Please please please...go elsewhere if you are looking for true love, dates, whatever. They can't provide you with what you are looking for. They only want your money. And your story. Sad but true! Awful. If I could give 0 I would. Very expensive, you get a really pushy sales job and I should have trusted my gut when this put me off. I spent $4500, they asked me extensive questions and then matched me with exactly zero men that had the qualities or aspects I was looking for. I also told them I didn't drink and every date was set up at a bar. It wasn't It's just Lunch, it was It's Just a Drink. So so disappointed and felt so ripped off. read more

In one year there was only one date who matched my search criteria. The remainder were all set to meet a quota, they were not in close living proximity, not physically compatible to what I described, and did not share anything in common with me at all. If you move around a lot, beware. They will not tell you this up front, but they are a *franchise* of IJL, not part of the core corporate team. This means if you move, like I did, they will not transfer your membership. I am out over 4000 dollars that I paid (and the hundreds spent putting my membership on hold while I figured out my moving situation) because they will not transfer my membership to corporate. This seems to be purely a local franchise decision, not a corporate decision as the IJL corporate offices were the ones to suggest this. This is unfortunate, but IJL is very likely a scam. They string out the matching process in order to make as much money as possible, leaving you feeling foolish and taken for a ride. Initially, IJL hooks you with flattery, implying during their intake process that they won't work with just anyone and that they will have you on a date within a week or two. Next, you get phone calls asking for dates and time when you're available for lunch or drinks with two different people...neither of whom ever seem to get back in touch with IJL (they're sick or put their membership on hold). They'll move onto other matches (maybe 3 or 4), but most of them are unavailable for two weeks and/or never return IJL's phone calls. You might get on one date within a month of having paid the non refundable initiation fee (about $3,000), after which IJL will insist the process must largely grind to a halt again until you go to their offices for an in-person interview, which they tell you is essential to getting you set-up with the right person (what was the point of the intake process then and what can you learn about me in person that you can't with a phone or FaceTime call?). This is all aimed at extending the process and continuing to collect money from you (additional monthly charge of about $90). They also have no qualms about personally insulting you when you question the process. When I asked why if no one was getting back to them they didn't call me to tell me I shouldn't hold my schedule open, one employee told me, "Well I just called you today, didn't I?" After several other conversations where I was assured these delays were anomalies and that this kind of thing "never happens", I finally became frustrated and angry, told them I felt I was being scammed, and asked them to cancel my membership. In response, an office manager told me I was being "defensive" and stated she had a whole bunch of people she wanted to introduce me to (who were all these people?). I called her on having personally insulted me, and the employfinally backed off and sent me an electronic cancellation form. I felt an incredible sense of relief when I signed it. The old adage of "If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is" applies here. IJL is selling a service, which is fine, but they don't seem to have any integrity or ethics underlying their business model. Rather, they have a process and checklist that they don't deviate from for anyone. If you call them on this, IJL's employees admit nothing, deny everything, and even make counter accusations (they might even do that in response to this review). All this for $3,000 (plus $90/month) and operating within a very vulnerable and sensitive area of your life. IJL is at best dishonest and at worst a scheme to milk you for thousands of dollars, preying on your hope that they know something you may not about finding a life partner. Don't put yourself through this discomfort - stay far away. EDIT: Check out "Stacy's" response below - as I predicted above, she comes out swinging. I've never spoken with Stacy, however she seems to think she knows what went wrong in my experience with IJL (it was my fault) and her response completely ignores large and important portions of my post. The most important thing she glosses over is that the person who signed me up (I won't name her here) told me after 3 weeks that it was "ridiculous" (her word) that I had only one date scheduled and that it wouldn't take place until a week later (4 weeks after I paid them almost $3,000). When you set someone expectations in that way, I think it's fair to expect them to be disappointed and frustrated when you don't come through (rather like dating itself). So no, you should not believe what Stacy and IJL are selling here. They operate without integrity and none of us deserve to be treated as such, especially after shelling out such a large amount of money. EDIT NO. 2: Except what you fail to mention is that: 1. "Giving the process a chance to work" would have cost me hundreds if not thousands of more dollars; why would I stick around for that? When will you address that issue?; and 2. You've never contacted me directly to hear what happened from my point of view. Instead, you are several degrees removed and acting as though you know what happened. I totally agree It is a scam. I have just read most of the reviews here and feel my experience has been no different - extremely poor matchmaking and terrible service from IJL. It is a complete waste of time and money. Out of the seven dates I was matched with, only the last date seemed to match most of my criteria, who ironically was presented to me when I was about to suspend my membership. But guess what, my date canceled the Zoom meeting with no reason one day before it. I reluctantly agreed to have it rescheduled. But when I was trying to sign in to the Zoom meeting on the second date, I did not see my date there. I called the Client Service and the matchmaker asked me to wait while she was contacting my date. When I logged in with the new link, I saw this guy who was dressed very casually and seemed to be working out at home. We had a 5 minutes' conversation and he said he had other plans and needed to go. I do not know what the matchmaker said to him, but I think this guy never intended to talk to me; either he forgot or canceled the second date but IJL failed to inform me. Then they must have talked him into showing up for a few minutes just to fulfill their obligations... I have written to inform them I am canceling my membership. I am not sure whether I can get any refund of my original upfront payment of about $4.5K. It has been a frustrating process. I am a busy professional and mom and did not feel I had the time to do online dating, but I recently decided to give it a try to Match.com and to my surprise, I am seeing many men who match all my criteria and most importantly, we know what the other side looks like before even proceeding, unlike IJL. I think in today's society, blind dating is inefficient and outdated. I would not rely on others to match for me anymore in the future. read more

I signed up about three months ago. They have been terrific in finding me matches in my age group. Because of the frequency of dates, I find I am getting more comfortable with dating and feel less pressure to make sure it goes well. I would recommend calling them and giving it a try. It is more expensive than on-line but has been worth it for me. read more
