It's Magic Landscape & Design just completed their follow-up on the landscaping project at our home. In summary, the finished project looks great and we highly recommend the team at It's Magic for your next landscaping project. However, with our project now complete, I'd break down the review of the project into three parts; (1) design and scheduling, (2) installation, and finally 3) follow-up. (1) for the design phase, we contacted Shane at It's Magic and scheduled an initial 'walk-around' with him of our property where we described a rough idea of what we were looking for. In conjunction with those initial thoughts, Shane added suggestions as to tree and/or shrub locations as well as tree/shrub types based on his considerable knowledge of "...what works..." in the White Mountains. During this phase, we also created a rough outline of a planting area at the front of the house in addition to a small area for natural grass. (2) for the installation phase, Shane and one of his project crews, led by Efrain, walked the property and discussed the landscaping plan and immediately began installing Maple trees and irrigation lines in the backyard. (Note: this crew's work ethic was noteworthy!) (3) for the follow-up phase, Efrain checked the project at the 2-week mark, and indicated that he'd return at the end of week 3 to check the sod, adjust the irrigation settings and to cut the grass for the first time, which was just completed. Photos of our front yard are attached.

Y&L Landscapes and Maintenance

CANNOT recommend Edgar Torres of Y&L Landscaping. He was nice enough to meet and eager to be hired…read moreto replace front yard of our Taylor home with artificial turf. He did provide a reference (I asked for several) of folks who had gotten some turf through him previous year. They were satisfied but I should have looked around further. We paid $6k up front for materials which he purchased in Phoenix and brought to location. It took weeks to get them to come out and begin project. Edgar sent young, seemingly inexperienced workers who tore up the old grass, depositing outside our front fence line. It sat there for months. Meantime no turf was laid for weeks. Some was weather related issues. More often than not, Edgar would promise to be there on whatever date and simply not show up. Only way he would occasionally communicate was via text or callback if I tried him enough times (cannot leave voicemail as always "full"). He broke numerous promises and dragged project out into the fall. As this is second home for us, I let him know when I'd be driving the 9 hours over and number of days in town in order to be there when things were supposed to be wrapping up. He didn't care. Stood me up. I'd have maybe one day of workers on site and then no shows. Finally they cut and laid the turf and it looked okay to me so I paid the remainder and was so relieved to have this now-nightmare over with! But subsequently it was observed by others who had been around artificial turf that it was lumpy, the seams quite noticeable, and then weeds began sprouting up all around and through the turf! Following terse conversations with my husband, Edgar came back and relented to have crew pull turf back up and properly redo it. They had neglected to put in a weed barrier! They used non-galvanized stakes which were already rusting out. They eventually rolled back turf, put down another layer or two, and left never completing the job! There it all sits, rolled up, and now under snow. No communication. We're out about $10k total for this half-assed project which will have to be finished by someone else, with integrity. So just BEWARE!!
