Strawberry Milkshake with Chocolate Brownie Bites

I have very good memories of going to Ivanhoes through my youth. I have not been in a long while, and it was unfortunately not very good this time. I'm not sure when I'll be around Upland & available to come again. My Texan burger & all of our shakes were subpar. I don't recall ever having a bad shake there before, and this one was bad. I ate a few bites & started to feel nauseous. I ordered a strawberry milkshake with strawberries & light brownie bites. They put a large slice of chocolate cake in it, which is way too sweet for me, & it instantly melted the shake. It was not good, and I still don't feel well a few hours later. I'm not sure if something was off with their milk, strawberries, or the cake brownie thing they put in this. The wait was also very long, which I know is usual for them, nevertheless, the ice cream has not ever missed for me before today.

Ivanhoe's of Upland, Indiana, truly delivers an iconic, high-quality treat experience, making it a beloved local favorite. With an astounding selection of over 100 sundae flavors, the sheer variety is mind-blowing, guaranteeing a perfect flavor profile for every palate. Each visit, often enjoyed for a delightful lunch, proves that their commitment to excellence in their sweets is unwavering, consistently earning a perfect 10/10 for food quality. Situated near both Taylor University and Indiana Wesleyan University, it's clear why this establishment is a perpetual hub of deliciousness. Despite the fact that the parking lot often fills 15 minutes before opening and a 30-minute wait is typical, the excellent service (9/10) remains efficient and friendly, ensuring a pleasant visit. Parking itself is surprisingly easy to navigate. The atmosphere is very kid-friendly, drawing families from far and wide, though it's important for parents to note the lack of highchairs. Ivanhoe's has been a cornerstone of the Upland community, a cherished institution that perfectly embodies the spirit of a classic American ice cream parlor. Must-order: Any ice cream sundaes. I will be back!

I've been here several times before, so my wife & I decided to drive up from Indy for a bite & a couple of shakes. We arrived in the afternoon to a full parking lot & dining area. Found parking & a booth right away. My wife got the grilled tenderloin with a coffee/heath bar shake. I went with the double cheddar bacon burger with a black raspberry shake w/ broken up sugar cone added. The tenderloin lacked flavor. It needed some seasoning. Salt, pepper, anything. Her shake was great, too. My burger was really good! As was my shake. It's funny, I managed to get pics of the menu, but when we got our food & shakes we were starving & forgot pics. Guess we'll just have to go again!

We drove an hour to come here and had a good time! The grilled tenderloin was delicious, although could use a little more seasoning. The chicken salad and fruit were also delicious. We got the strawberry shortcake and added hot fudge and cookie dough and we got the clown sundae. We had a good time. Can't wait to try a chocolate sundae next time! So crazy how they have 100 sundaes on their menu!! We love ice cream!

With this being our son's final semester at BSU, my wife and I took him up to Ivanhoe's. It has been over 25 years since we've been. The menu is as overwhelming as I remember, 100 sundaes and 100 shakes to choice from. Where do you start? Go for something you won't find at the Dairy Queen or other ice cream shops. There are sandwiches and burgers on the menu too. My son and I split the lemon bar shake, and he also got chicken tenders. My wife got a strawberry shortcake sundae. The prices were affordable for the regular sized shake and the tenders at $5.85 each. The regular sized strawberry shortcake sundae was pretty steep comparatively at $10. Everything was good. Nothing stood out or made me want to come back again. The service ensured my lack of returning. The person taking our order was not friendly at all. Could not get her to crack a smile. It took 25 minutes to get our order! The strawberry short cake sundaes are prepped in advance, and there was plenty of staff. When it was finally time, they called my name. I stood where the sign read get drinks here. No one came. No one said anything. They then called my name again, so I moved to the back of the store where the kid give me my food and then muttered something to his co-worker about having to call my name twice. I do apologize for your inconvenience. I thought I was in the right place where the sign was. It's been so long since I've been here, and it will be a long time before I return.

The tenderloin & taters tots were good. The service was also good. But, the only problem was the ambiance because it was kinda busy and where we were sitting was loud.

Not a drive in, but worth the drive! #yum #ReviewsByRL

Glad I stumbled upon this place, heading home to Indy from Ft Wayne. I was just going to get some fast food off I69, but did a quick Yelp search and this sounded interesting! So, it's not a drive in, just a restaurant. Lots of parking. Inside was packed. It wasn't clear for a newbie, but you order food on one side then the crowd was people waiting for their orders. Separate line for just ice cream orders. Also lots of tables to eat in. I saw some strawberry shortcake on tables so I knew that was a go. She asked ice cream or whipped cream? I said how much do they cost and she said 8.75 regardless, so I got both. Also onion rings. I asked the girl at the register what her favorite sandwich was and she didn't hesitate to say southwestern chicken, so that's what I ordered. She said breaded or fried and I said you tell me, and she said fried, so that's what I ordered too, ha. Waited a bit for food (it was crowded) the the youmg guy who filled my order was very nice. Strawberry shortcake is packaged well to travel. I ate out in the parking lot cuz I had my dog in the car. It was a total #yum. The dessert is enough for a few people. My hubs was happy when I got home with leftovers! Chicken sandwich had 2 good size filets in it and a nice sauce. Btw, menu lists literally 100 different milkshakes in print too small for me to read without glasses. Safe to say you can get whatever you can think of! #yum #ReviewsByRL

We almost always call ahead, as Hoes is a very busy place! Still love their shakes, even after 35 years!

This appears to be a really new Subway. We arrived around 1:15, so it was after the chaos of a regular lunch rush and the restaurant from the tables to the trash to the food assembly line were very clean. Being the kind of person that tends to stick with what he likes, Jim ordered the traditional Italian B.M.T. (non sequitur - does anyone know what the B. the M. and the T. stand for?). The person behind the counter (who didn't have a name tag) walked my sandwich down the line and assembled it just as I ordered it. The wonderful thing about places like Subway is that there's never a wait for your food. I wasn't going to combo-ize my lunch because a) I'm not going to eat the chips right then and b) I have a sizable collection of bags of chips at home that I'll get to when I can. That being said, I saw that they had Mrs. Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle chips. Yea, Jim gave in and combo-ized his meal (knowing I'll save those chips until later). Our sandwiches were perfect and took care of my "I have 27 minutes until Hungry turns into Hangry" situation. This was a nice lunch stop. Clean (and apparently new or possibly recently renovated) restaurant, friendly staff, great food. DJ PlaZma Approved!
