Honestly- this place is the best! (And no this is not AI- I like dashes). It helps when the man who greets you has a British accent because you just know there's a reason this is in the middle of nowhere. I almost think it's so good the hospital decided to build by it just so they could eat it everyday. The bread is fresh, the fish is fresh (and huge and definitely not Gordon's- no offense), the ice cream is creamier than most and the soups- oh my! This place is worth the stop and the wait if there is one. It's delish!

This wonderful restaurant in Gas City offers unique and fresh food. The service is always great! It's a casual setting. On this latest visit I had the Reuben, chips and iced tea. All was delicious!

Payne's has been on my radar for a while now and it's worth a stop. I'm sorry I waited so long! The place is a mismatched delight. Old pillows on seats were the cutiest. Very comfortable. Very cute. We started with complimentary chips and bean dip. It's delicious, but a bit weird to be at a British pub and start with a Mexican delight. We had the recommended starter of bruschetta and it was delicious! Very non-traditional as it was warm with melty cheese and bacon. The soup of the day was a tasty lil blue cheese and broccoli number. My bangers and mash hit the spot with proper Irish bangers and smothered in an oniony gravy. My hubs had fish and chips, which was a huge portion and the fish was perfection. I was a lil surprised by the chips (fries) as they were not quite like what you'd find at a proper chippy. Still good! Go here!

This place is a hidden gem! We are traveling to parents house for a visit and landed here for lunch! Totally the best British food ever. We had the Fish & Chips, and also a grilled Gouda and goat cheese sandwich with the sweet potato, apple and ginger soup. They also give you complimentary chips with a black bean and tomato dip. The mugs of tea are literally huge mason jars! Our waitress is amazing, we were allowed to have our golden retriever outside on the patio, for a private area they had little sections squared off where we sat with our dog, she brought a dog bowl out with water and an entire container of turkey for him! Kudos! Every time we visit the fam, we'll be stopping at Paynes!

Great place with an authentic British Menu. This is located in Gas City and is worth the trip or the stop off the interstate when traveling.

Met my sons here for a holiday dinner! Exchanged presents and each of us ordered different entrees and did some sharing. British curry...very good Fish and chips... huge delicious portion. English stew with Yorkshire pudding...unbelievable. The salads and appetizers were really good and the service was super! We couldn't ask for more.

Paynes never disappoints! When you see the huge billboard on I-69 mentioning fish and chips, let that be your reminder you need to stop here and eat! Many people drive that stretch of the highway and never stop in Gas City for this delicious experience. The soup with a grilled cheddar cheese sandwich was a new option for me to try. What a perfect meal! Love an unusual but flavorful and tasty soup and the cauliflower soup does not disappoint. The sandwich on the side made the meal complete. Service excellent as always. Not a super fancy decor but perfect for the food served and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Seriously, make this your next stop!

We finally stopped at Paynes after years of "we should try that place." It was worth the hour drive. Fish n chips....my husband's favorite. It was amazingly good. Crispy, hot and not greasy at all! Super large portions of food. Sticky toffee pudding will be calling our name again soon. The soups are top notch. We will be back for sure! Also make a reservation on a Saturday night. We were really glad we did.

    Selfie opportunity!

I love this place and stop at it at every chance even though I live over an hour away. Delicious, authentic British food in the most random little town off the highway. Its atmosphere is fun and eclectic and totally worth getting off the highway. Try anything, it is all top notch, flavorful and memorable. There is also a fun selfie opportunity to take a pic of a human sized Garfield dressed up as a royal guard just outside.

I was looking forward to it, as this has been on my list of places to go, and we haven't been here before. There were supposed to be 10 of us be we ended up being 8 this night. We had reservations, and had the lovely little private room in the back. (The whole restaurant seems just to seat about 20 or so.) Decor is fun & a nod to all things Britsh. We had 7 scotch eggs for the table. They were served cut in half with a mustard hollandaise, and we re scrumptious. Around the table, we had a variety of beers nda cocktails. I asked the server to pair me a white to go with my fish & chips, and asked for anything except Moscato. They sent a sauvignon blanc that was perfect. My friend next to be had a bloody Mary that was definitely Instagram worthy (see pics). The menu is fairly extensive, but most of us ordered either the fish & chops or the steak & Guinness pie (like a shepherd's pie). For pricing, the scotch eggs are $14.95 ea.; the fish & chips was $29, and the steak & Guinness pie was $30, so I would classify this as "upscale pub." Everything was tasty and a #yum #ReviewsByRL

This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

The bartender continued to carry on a conversation with other customers while I waited patiently to be recognized. He eventually came over and stood in front of me without speaking (warning sign number two). I requested a beer menu which he pointed out was on the wall. He kindly let me sample 2 beers. I requested a wine menu for my wife and he listed the varietals available. I inquired about the cost of the Pinot Grigio. He apparently had to go find the the manager and came back to tell me the price of the Sauvignon blanc. I politely pointed out that I wanted the price of the Pinot. He seemed visibly frustrated (as he looked like it was a burden for him to walk that much) and had to go find the manager again. He poured the beer and opened the bottle, throwing away the cork. I asked about the possibility of corking the leftover and he seemed to fish the cork out of the trash, pushing it back into the bottle without offering a wine glass (the third warning sign). I gave him my credit card and as he rang up the sale, I inquired about setting up a tab since he didn't offer to do so as most bartenders will. This was clearly too much for this poorly trained millennial and he again had to get assistance from the manager. Not being able to control himself, he muttered "I guess he's never been to a bar before" loud enough for me to hear, obviously upset that I did not request a tab before he rang in the sale. I asked him to repeat what he said. He of course had misplaced his cajones by then and denied saying anything. The manager, looking like Large Marge from Pee-wee's Big Adventure, naturally failed to try and resolve the situation and took back the drinks without giving my credit card back until asked. I sarcastically thanked them for their customer service and went to leave. Naturally, one of their few regulars had to throw in his 2 cents in and followed me outside. This little bald man with his pit bull said that "maybe the problem is you". I replied "maybe" and walked away with my wife. He followed behind making fun of my wife's gait (she limps from prior surgery for bone cancer) and threatening to push her over. As he was obviously all talk and no action, I ignored him as we walked over to the Canon Commons for the concert. Of course he also showed up there, but by then he also had misplaced his man parts and didn't approach us. So a word of warning to potential new visitors - DON'T.
