    Reuben with chips.

This wonderful restaurant in Gas City offers unique and fresh food. The service is always great! It's a casual setting. On this latest visit I had the Reuben, chips and iced tea. All was delicious!

Honestly- this place is the best! (And no this is not AI- I like dashes). It helps when the man who greets you has a British accent because you just know there's a reason this is in the middle of nowhere. I almost think it's so good the hospital decided to build by it just so they could eat it everyday. The bread is fresh, the fish is fresh (and huge and definitely not Gordon's- no offense), the ice cream is creamier than most and the soups- oh my! This place is worth the stop and the wait if there is one. It's delish!

Payne's has been on my radar for a while now and it's worth a stop. I'm sorry I waited so long! The place is a mismatched delight. Old pillows on seats were the cutiest. Very comfortable. Very cute. We started with complimentary chips and bean dip. It's delicious, but a bit weird to be at a British pub and start with a Mexican delight. We had the recommended starter of bruschetta and it was delicious! Very non-traditional as it was warm with melty cheese and bacon. The soup of the day was a tasty lil blue cheese and broccoli number. My bangers and mash hit the spot with proper Irish bangers and smothered in an oniony gravy. My hubs had fish and chips, which was a huge portion and the fish was perfection. I was a lil surprised by the chips (fries) as they were not quite like what you'd find at a proper chippy. Still good! Go here!

Great place with an authentic British Menu. This is located in Gas City and is worth the trip or the stop off the interstate when traveling.

Paynes never disappoints! When you see the huge billboard on I-69 mentioning fish and chips, let that be your reminder you need to stop here and eat! Many people drive that stretch of the highway and never stop in Gas City for this delicious experience. The soup with a grilled cheddar cheese sandwich was a new option for me to try. What a perfect meal! Love an unusual but flavorful and tasty soup and the cauliflower soup does not disappoint. The sandwich on the side made the meal complete. Service excellent as always. Not a super fancy decor but perfect for the food served and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Seriously, make this your next stop!

We finally stopped at Paynes after years of "we should try that place." It was worth the hour drive. Fish n chips....my husband's favorite. It was amazingly good. Crispy, hot and not greasy at all! Super large portions of food. Sticky toffee pudding will be calling our name again soon. The soups are top notch. We will be back for sure! Also make a reservation on a Saturday night. We were really glad we did.

Met my sons here for a holiday dinner! Exchanged presents and each of us ordered different entrees and did some sharing. British curry...very good Fish and chips... huge delicious portion. English stew with Yorkshire pudding...unbelievable. The salads and appetizers were really good and the service was super! We couldn't ask for more.

I love this place and stop at it at every chance even though I live over an hour away. Delicious, authentic British food in the most random little town off the highway. Its atmosphere is fun and eclectic and totally worth getting off the highway. Try anything, it is all top notch, flavorful and memorable. There is also a fun selfie opportunity to take a pic of a human sized Garfield dressed up as a royal guard just outside.

Wow! We stopped here on our way up to Angola and we were pleasantly surprised at how good this spot was. The fish and chips are the best I've had in the US. They also had Irn-Bru which was exciting. My husband had a Guinness, while out of a can was still very good. The burger was the only item that wasn't 5 stars, but why would you order a burger at a place that has fish n chips, bangers & mash, and beef stew & Yorkshire pudding. The interior was comfy and cozy and service was great. Highly recommend the drive to this spot or making sure to stop by on your way up or down I-69.

We decided to come here on the 4th of July from Indy after hearing how amazing the fish and chips are...people were accurate. The food: We were given complimentary bean dip and chips. The bean dip was fabulous and had great complex flavors. I got the cock-a-leekie soup and the medium (smallest) fish and chips. My husband got the fattoush as his side with the large fish and chips. The cock-a-leekie soup was different but in a good way. The broth was vinegary and the chicken was tender. The prunes were actually great to balance out the tartness. The fattoush was bright and served as a great palate cleanser. Now to the main event: the fish and chips. Each piece of fish is giant. The medium comes with one filet and the large has 2. The batter on the fish was very crispy and the fish itself was thick. The chips were crispy and after dousing my plate in malt vinegar, they retained most of their crisp. Service and Decor: Our server was attentive and offered to explain anything. The decor is legit British pub style. The pillows in the booths added some comfort and whimsy. There is a UK inspired Garfield statue out front for photo ops, as Jim Davis is from that area. This was a great road trip and I suggest everyone go for the experience and great food!

After eating at the nearby Cracker Barrel every time we were in Gas City, we decided to check out Payne's. Needless to say, Payne's will probably be our new Gas City spot. I had the Fish n' Chips alongside the potato salad. It came with spinach underneath and an excellent raspberry sauce. Very unique, and certainly yummy! The Fish was crispy on the outside and had that melt-in-your mouth feel on the inside. The fries were good as well. They also have complimentary bean dip with chips when you sit down. I'm not a huge bean person, but this dip could make me think otherwise! It was fabulous! The service was also excellent. Everyone was very kind and helpful. Overall, when in Gas City, Payne's is definitely worth giving a try!

The food came out cold, the Mickey Mouse pancake was not even close to Mickey Mouse shaped and huge for a kids menu. Never once asked how we were doing, if we needed anything or how the food was. I would not recommend, they were not busy and there were plenty of people working at the time. Prices are somewhat high for the quality you get, I could have made better at home for less.
