Came back again - the 4th of July fireworks were amazing again. Brian and Nichole are still there…read moremaking it super enjoyable. They doubled the size of the back area which is nice. If it was me, I would do a few things: get a larger ice cooler (or a second one), invest in wifi/cable that works better, and add some more potties. There are a lot of people with not many bathrooms. Otherwise no complaints, see you next year.

It ended up being out in the middle of nowhere, in the Manistee National Forest. This ended up being a great location due to where it was and the size of the campground. We could drive to most places within 25 minutes or so and then come back to this nice, tucked away campground. I received text messages almost daily while there with what was going on. I would have been ok with not receiving these as I received the agenda upon check in and had a list of everything. Easy to follow signs lead you back into the forest to find the KOA as well. Full hook up site that was nearly level and required little work to set up which was nice. They also had a dog park. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the random A frame structure that was in the park. It was kind of overgrown in the dog park area and the bugs were so bad-that time of year for the bugs. There were plenty of activities if you had little ones and there was also a pool that looked quite nice. They had these fun Yurt/tent type places you could also have paid to stay at as well. Everyone working was very friendly and helpful. Also, they randomly sold beer and wine, but not on Sundays. First KOA that I've ever been to that did that!

After reviewing their website and exchanging emails with Kevin, the owner, we made reservations to…read morecheck in on a Monday and out on Friday. We arrived early afternoon and find that the entrance to the campground was nowhere near the office. We had to follow a long campground road too get to the office. We have a 38 ft motorhome, and was assured that we would have no issues getting in/out of the campground. We located Kevin and he called his partner who was off-site. We waited for her to arrive and after completing the checking process, she led us to our site which was nice. Let me say at the outset, Kevin and Vickie are nice folks and accommodating. Let me also say that the campground is as described on the website, which is rustic. The roads are sand, the sites are sand or grass, depending on the site. If you are expecting paved roads and/or sites, don't plan on staying here. Pros: - Owners are nice folks - Campground was quiet but we were the only ones there so that is obvious. However, their quiet times are strictly enforced. - Campground is quite woodsy, lots of pines, very nice atmosphere. - Campground is located away from busy roads so noise is a minimum. - Camping fee was very reasonable for a 50A/water supplied site. - They do have a nice dump station. Cons: - The rustic roads are very bumpy with a lot of low spots and dips. This is not the kind of road that I ever want to drive my RV on again. - Roads have a lot of very narrow spots and sharp turns with trees to avoid, not conducive to a 38 ft motorhome with a car on a dolly behind it. - While not directly related to the camping experience, the buildings on the property are quite run down and really made us think twice when we arrived. - There are only two showers for the whole campground (unless there was another one somewhere else that I was unaware of, but I specifically asked about showers and was told which building). Those two showers also have the only two flush toilets in the campground, the rest are pit/portable toilets. - There is no common trash disposal, you leave a bag next to the road and they will collect it - for $3 a bag. Overall we had a pleasant camping experience but for the reasons stated, we would not go back with our RV. If rustic camping is what you like, you'll like this campground. If you are looking for something more upscale, keep looking, this is not what you are wanting.

Unorganized and run down without a dumpster for garbage. Will not be staying here again. "Speed…read morelimit is 5mph, ride the brake, bad attitudes will get you kicked out, speed limit is 5mph"

A pleasant wooded setting not far from Baldwin. Amenities are sparse (though you came to a state…read moreforest campground so you probably know that), but the outhouses were clean, pumps gushed the aqua without straining your muscles, and the picnic tables were in good repair. While its comforts are limited, it's much quieter than some of the better appointed campgrounds nearer town. Leverentz Lake SFCG is divided into two sections, the Little Leverentz Lake (really not much more than a pond) and Big Leverentz Lake (really more of a large pond) units. I generally prefer Big Leverentz, as there are some cabins bordering close on the Little Leverntz unit and I prefer a little more seclusion. There's a single home on Big Leverentz across from the campground, otherwise the shores are wooded and wild. Spotted some loons there one morning on a recent visit. There's a fishing pier as well as a boat launch on Big Leverentz. A 4.5 mile hiking trail loops through surrounding woods and wetlands, with several access points in the campground. Sites are generously sized, and many can accommodate trailers. Most aren't completely level, typical for rustic campgrounds, but tent campers can probably find enough level-ish ground for comfortable sleeping. Baldwin is one of Michigan's great outdoor recreation destinations, and if you're happy with rustic accommodations, Leverentz Lake is a good base for exploring it.
