A really good school with caring teachers. They provide before school and afterschool care, and have a teacher assistant that only works on helping students that are not getting their studies, which was my son. It was a big help. This is a great school I really like the way there are structured like college there are 6 different courses it's different courses including stem or science technology engineering and math as well as English history or social studies mathematics or other science class and they have art and PE it is really hard to find a school that has an entire class just for art! each one of these classes is taught by a separate teacher who is a specialist in their field many of them hold master degrees or higher I like the safety of the school that it's fully gated in a very nice area and I also am very happy with the administration and staff my kids tell me that the food tastes a lot better than when they were in LAUSD (los angeles unified school district) they do have a waiting list so try to get your kids admitted early before the start of the next school year and take advantage of this great tuition free public charter school in your area Oh I forgot to mention that they are grades 5 through 8 read more

Horrible school! Worst mistake I ever made was sending my child to this school! Horrible office staff, horrible teachers and some of the kids even worst! Teachers don't care about the kids.. some students are complete bullies My daughter was hurt twice one of which she was hit in the face with a bottle ripped open her lip and office staff did nothing at all.. not even a call to me that my daughter was hurt! I had to get a call from my child to pick her up.. most students don't live in the area and are the ones that cause problems in the school. School never wants to do anything cause they're already had looked bad when they had a teacher getting fired when having a relationship with a student! This school needs to be shut down!!! read more

This was a surprisingly terrible school. My son attended the school and literally went into a deep depression because of the mistreatment from the students, teachers, and staff that he would receive on a daily basis for a year and a half. The teachers would not help him with his homework. He is a SPED student, and they did not follow his IEP that he had in place. It was like they pretty much ignored him and his needs and said fend for yourself when it came to his school work. The kids are pretty much out of control, and they run the school, not the adults. The school had to call the PET team on my son because he wanted to hurt himself for all the bullying and verbal abuse that was happening daily. Just to be let go from the hospital within 24 hours as the therapist said it's the school, not your son. Take him out of that school immediately. I'm an angry and upset parent because they could not protect my son from the onslaught of behavior that is within the school. And did a half ass job helping him succeed. Trust me, if I can get this school shut down, I would. And I used to work for them, so I know what i'm talking about. read more

This was a horrible middle school. They are racist in ways and don't care about their students education. They're really just there to get their paycheck.My child has told me their were mice in the bathrooms. Ivy bound made a stupid rule that you can only go to the bathroom once per month. They don't want to buy new Chrome books even tho the students really needed them because their keys are missing. I think it's very dumb to use computers and have trashy Wi-Fi. They can't even afford to fix the bathrooms but have a lot of fundraisers. If you want an actual education I don't recommend coming to the school. read more

If you are a Persian Iranian Jew or Israel Jew, you will thrive here. Otherwise, you will be miserable. According to GreatSchools.org, the student demographics is 73% whites, including 50% Persians, and 20% Israel families. The plus side of the school is the school and families from both cultures focus on education, and expect their children to get a good job through education. The down side of the school is the parents from both cultures, and especially Persians at home teach their children to discriminate other races - blacks, Latino, Asians, and American whites, just pretty much any kind who is Not their kind. Since this is a public charter school run by tax payer's money, the school has to accept 17% of Latinos from Van Nuys, and 4% of token blacks, 2% of token Asians, and 1% of token Filipinos. (based on GreatSchools.org). The kids in other groups are expected to "behave", "keep quiet", "just study", not to be "trouble-makers". The school principal is a 2nd generation Iranian who is skillful in raising and obtaining public funds. He is the leader of this newly-formed Persian group on American land. His Persian families are the ones who saturate the web sites with good reviews to cover the truth. The Persian kids walk around as if they are still back in their homeland, and this school is their private one. What's ironic is most Persian families and Israel families are in the professions of "underground economy" - plumbers, roofers, hair dressers, store owners- the cash business to avoid tax. You will see them come to school in BMW, Mercedes, and own the house South of Ventura blvd. Then an outsider like me will be shocked to find out that majority of them are on Welfare system, receiving public aid. Just go to GreatSchools.org again - 71% of students are in free-lunch program, that are Only offered to true low-income folks. Be prepared to deal with hypocrites and very prejudiced people who carry on some outdated value from the far-east regions. If you want your children to have a taste of not-your-typical-white-against-black racism and come out to be tough enough to be sent to Middle East, then please go ahead send your kids to this school. However, if you want to raise your kids in American value, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL! read more

This is our second year at IVYBound Academy and I feel so blessed to have found this small diamond of a school for my girls. The teachers are excited to be there and they teach with such pride and motivation. Because of the size, the kids do not get forgotten and all the teachers know all of the students. I am thankful that my child will be given an opportunity like this to love school and be educated by teachers who love what they are doing, especially these hard years in middle school. read more

I have a child at Ivy Bound Academy and we love it. If you want your child to be challenged academically and you and your child are invested in your child's education, then this is the school for your child. If you want your child to be a leader and learn accountability and responsibility, then this is the school for your child. I feel it necessary to debunk the claims of Janelle E.. First, let me start with some of her statistics that she has "creatively" taken from Greatschools.org. Janelle claims that 50% of the 73% of "white" students are Persian. It does not state this anywhere on Greatschools.org. What it does state, is that 50% of the students who spoke English as a second language are Persian. There are 12 Persian students currently enrolled at Ivy Bound, that is 5% of the entire student body of 240. Janelle also takes issue with the fact that Persian & Israeli students are lumped into the "white" category. The government does not provide a box for anything other than White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander http://www.census.gov/population/race/ . Janelle, if you have an issue with this, please take it up with the U.S. government, not Ivy Bound Academy. This is a charter school funded by the state and admission is based on a lottery system. This means that anyone can apply and anyone can get in. There aren't any quotas to fill as Janelle stated. You simply apply, wait for the lottery, and then it is the luck of the draw. The demographics of the school can only be determined by odds Janelle. If more Hispanic students apply, then the odds are greater that more Hispanic students will be admitted through the lottery system and whereby the student body will be made up of more Hispanic students. The same goes for any other ethnic or racial background. There are no "token" students at Ivy Bound Academy. All students are given the same excellent educational opportunities and the encouragement and tools to advance. As far a Janelle's blanket statement regarding Persian and Israeli families being on welfare and tax evaders, I find these statements to be inaccurate, offensive, and yes Janelle, racist. While I believe in a person's right to review a business, school, etc., reviews should be based on fact, not on emotional, racially charged fiction. It is disappointing that Janelle is not focused on the amazing qualities of Ivy Bound Academy. This school has a current API of 910 and only continues to grow. This school has a statewide API ranking of 10, which means that this school is in the top 10% of all schools in the state. Ivy Bound Academy is a small and personal school, where kids are not just a number, and where attention is generously given to each student. Education, morals, & good values begin at home.
