So I'd like to start with what was positive about coming to school here. I graduated in 2021. I really liked Mrs.Nirmal and Mr.Doctor. Mrs.Nirmal teaches chemistry and she's great. Mr.Doctor teaches history and he is very knowledgeable and helps his students succeed. My issues with the school started in 11th grade in the middle of the year before the pandemic. I was not permitted to join the dance company despite having a rudamentary knowledge of hip hop. This crushed me since I entered in the school specifically to the performing magnet arts program and that did not work out. There was an insane amount of discrimination and bullying going on behind closed doors and when it was brought to the staff's attention more specifically Mrs.Arana she did nothing about it. I experienced the worst cyberbullying and bullying from the kids while it attendance to this school that I'm now 23 years old and I still recall stuff that went on. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Do not send your kid here. I would recieve an endless amount of death threats, abelist comments on my former youtube channel, and a lot of people were targetting me because of my religion so I feel discriminated against. Making fun of my religion and sending me death threats is not the way anybody should spend their high school years. I know high school is bad but it does not have to be that bad if you choose the correct school. The students are insanely historically not informed and some of the comments they made towards me behind closed doors are disgusting, nobody should ever be spoken to the way that I was. In response to telling Miss Arana that I was being targeted for being Jewish, she said "there are conflicts in the middle East." NO! We are in Los Angeles and this is her school and this is what people are writing to me here and now, so I felt like she could have done more to take care of it. At the time there was even a "tea page" on instagram where there was a lot of cyberbullying. There were maybe 50 or so posts about me on there and I didn't really have any friends at the school so it was very unfair to me what was going on. read more

Best kept secret in the valley and maybe even all of Los Angeles. As a parent I was a little hesitant at first because of what the media tries to portray Van Nuys and everything in it, including this high school. But since my kid liked the performing arts magnet and was also interested in the machinist program we gave it a try and I am glad we did. My kid loves Van Nuys High School. The teachers are nice, patient, and very attentive to talk to parents about any issues or if they need help. The students at this school are a diverse group from different areas not just from the valley and this is something that I liked. When we were considering high schools for our son we looked all over the valley and this was the best fit for him. My wife and I really were sold when we went on a tour of the campus and got to speak to current students. They are so talented! It blew our minds how many cool things they are doing and how smart they are, we left beyond impressed. The three magnets are great too, Medical Magnet, STEAM Magnet, and the Performing Arts Magnet. Of course all schools have their pros and cons. We are excited to see how much our son loves to learn and attend school. He even tries to go to school when he is sick, that is how much he loves Van Nuys High School and his teachers. Honestly we have only scratched the surface because this school is one of top LAUSD AP passing schools, they have awards for Auto Skills, Machinist, and Film programs, their newspaper has won awards called the Mirror (also available online), not to mention the musicals, dance groups, choirs, and various musicians are wildly talented. We went to see the musical Mamma Mia and WOW it was AMAZING!!!!! Van Nuys High School might just be one of the best high schools in Los Angeles and the most underrated in the valley. It truly is a diamond in the rough. My wife and I are so excited to see our son continue to flourish, specially because starting in the 2025-2026 school year they will implement the block schedule and the students will have even more opportunities to learn and explore other subjects and programs. It has been a great experience so far, we are happy to be part of the Van Nuys High School Wolf Pack. read more

For someone like me about to graduate, this is one of the WORST schools that I've attended to... Teachers not caring that their students ditching class and some of them pulling the fire alarm and running away to avoid trouble, some teachers being nice while some acting very rude, and staff being also rude to the students. This school gave no support for college application, their transcript was inaccurate and I was bounced between administration members, none of whom was able to correct the transcript grades that are supposedly listed by the district. No call backs and absence of administration for weeks is normal. There is no response to constant violence at the school and no response to bullying one of my children faced, not even a conversation about discrimination or acceptance of differences was given. As a parent, I am deeply disappointed. Regarding teachers, some teachers are good and some teach something else than the subject matter altogether, but that can happen at any district school. it was going mild and great at the same time. I'd say the magnets have a better community of people but then again it's about the same. The teachers are great if you are kind and respectful towards them. If they find a bully, they'll bully them back or try to help out if they are willing to listen depending on the staff. The students are mostly lefty/liberal as well as some staff. read more

I definitely enjoyed this school and all the opportunities VNHS had to offer. I was a graduate pretty long ago and had the honor of attending my cousin's graduation here. The teachers are funny, witty, and understanding. They have three magnet programs: performing arts, math and science, and medical. Their jazz choir is unbeatable and their volleyball games are through the roof. My cousin will definitely never forget her years here. We both enjoyed the many things Van Nuys had to offer. We also had fireworks at our graduation. read more

This School is one of the worst one any student can attend!! None of there magnet programs are good! They don't have teachers for all the class. Do not believe anything they say. this is one of the worst school that any student can go there teachers are horrible. it is unsafe. the teacher will not help you with nothing they don't even got enough teachers for each subject it mostly substitute teachers that are horrible and racist and the school will keep calling you every day if you kid is even late for a second to class they will keep bothering you every single day I do not recommend this school to anyone of and for who ever is in this school right now GOOD LUCK. read more

My four years that i went there it was terrible. there are very few teachers that'll actually teach you and that are actually willing to help. it would be a good school if there weren't p*dophile teachers there and the school trying to keep that a secret. there's also teachers like Kimberly Price , a Economics and democracy teacher, who always give a student an attitude if they ask for help. or say something inappropriate like "it's kinda idiot proof are you an idiot" nearly making the student cry , who does that ?? and another teacher who is awful there is Robert Eisenhart, the Band director. I have witnessed and first hand endured his awful ways of teaching. school is supposed to be a good way to learn things but not in his class. you go in there new and don't know what to expect, until you go to an afterschool rehearsal and find out first hand how awful he is. he is a man like no other, he tells you his ways of teaching are to get you into the real world, but if you like that then prepare for him to scream at you, get anger issues towards you, de-humanize you and may even grab you out of frustration . he is not a nice dude and no matter how many times a student reports this man, the school still keeps him after numerous years of reporting, he still remains. he also doesn't care wether a student has an injury or not. he will still blame it on the student and continue to work them hard. and then another woman people can't stand is the counselor Ms arana. she is loud and obnoxious for no reason. she needs to learn when to be quiet because there's no reason to be screaming into a microphone. she also needs to learn respect. bad school overall. read more

My son started this year and the students and teachers there have been the most supportive. He joined ASB (association student body) and was immediately welcomed. Even when he decided to join wrestling last minute his counselor did everything possible to arrange his schedule so that he's able to participate in everything he had his heart on. We couldn't of picked a better school for him. read more

Van Nuys High School - Middle Schools & High Schools Near Me - Van Nuys, California

This school is amazing!! My son is a freshman in a stem magnet program with access to performance arts magnet classes, including dance PE, and he was amazed at how caring and compassionate all his teachers are!! We had to enroll in a different district in OC with a very well appraised school, but it had nothing in comparison to VNHS. I literally cried after listening from my son about how much time and effort teachers spent to help him to catch up after my son missed school due to the emergency with my job. My son's words, and he is 14: "All schools write how they strive for their students to succeed, VNHS and all their teachers are actually showing it with their actions, attitude, dedication and compassion, that they are truly striving for their students to succeed!" Go to greatschools.org, you will see many schools having good ratings because of the sat scores, but VNHS not only stands out because of the scores, but because of the high USER ratings, based on the student and parent experiences. Those ratings are truly deserved, and if it was in my power I would pay all the teachers and staff the highest rate possible. And from the bottom of my heart I want to write a thank you letter to every teacher that is dedicating they time, life, love and care to teach our kids. Their work is immeasurable!! Amazing school with programs to prepare all students to be college and or career ready!!

It's an LA District school so what else can you really say.... however Van Nuys does excel in their AP programs, surprisingly is one of the best schools in the SFV, and from experience through my younger brother has had compassionate teachers every year of his high school life. Let me tell you what sucked last night when I went to his graduation. They didn't play Pomp & Circumstance during the ceremony!! Who does that? This school honestly is not all it's made out to be. Like I only went there for a year and I transferred. The students are bad, the teachers don't give a rats a$$ about the students and the counselors say they wanna help but when bullying does happen and they report it they think your lying.
