Van Nuys High School was honestly one of the worst school experiences for me and many other students. If I could rate this school, I would honestly give it a 0/10. The amount of bullying, fights, drama, rumors, and toxic behavior on campus is completely out of control. There are posters all around the school talking about anti-bullying and reporting problems, but when students actually deal with bullying, it often feels like nobody truly does anything about it. Problems continue, people get targeted, and students are left feeling unsupported and ignored.
Mental health support at this school is also extremely disappointing. A lot of students struggle emotionally because of the environment, but it feels like nobody actually helps. Some of the PSWs are barely even at the school most of the time, and when students try reaching out for help, they are often ignored or told to just go back to class instead of being listened to. I personally came for help with my mental health and was simply told to return to class. A school should take students' emotional well-being seriously, but many students feel dismissed instead of supported.
The administration makes things even worse. Roxanna, the assistant principal, was very rude and disrespectful to me as a student and did not handle situations professionally at all. Instead of helping solve problems, it felt like she made situations more frustrating and upsetting. The women dean, Tania, also does a poor job handling student issues, and many situations involving bullying, drama, and conflict are not dealt with correctly. Students deserve administrators who listen, care, and actually help improve the school environment.
The nurses are also not helpful. Whenever students walk in needing help, it feels like all they do is hand out an ice pack and send people away. Many students feel like the nurses are rude and do not actually care about helping students feel better or supported.
The teachers are also disappointing in many ways. Some teachers do not do their jobs correctly, and it feels like many students are not taken seriously. Instead of creating a positive learning environment, some classrooms feel disorganized, stressful, and unmotivating.
Another major issue at Van Nuys High School is the drug and vape use happening on campus, especially in the bathrooms. The school has posters warning students about drugs and vaping, but they never seem to actually stop students from bringing these things onto campus. Almost every time I try to use the restroom, there is a strong cherry watermelon smell from vaping. Students bring alcohol, vapes, cigarettes, and other substances into the bathrooms, which creates an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment for everyone else.
The cafeteria food is also very bad most of the time. Some of the food tastes old, cold, or low quality, and it does not feel fresh. On top of that, the campus itself is often very dirty because students throw trash all over the ground, making the environment look messy and poorly maintained.
Overall, I would not recommend Van Nuys High School at all. The environment feels extremely toxic, full of fake people, bullying, drama, fights, disrespect, poor leadership, and unhealthy behavior. Many students leave feeling mentally exhausted instead of supported. A school should be a safe place where students can learn, grow, and feel respected, but this school fails to provide that for many people. read more
