We had an incredible experience here and recommend the school to everyone we can. I have had a child enrolled at other area preschools (both Montessori and non-Montessori) and the quality of instruction, the wonderful true Montessori materials and classroom, and the respectful and joyful classroom environment make this school stand out from all the rest. The school is safe and clean. The teachers are trustworthy and get to know each child. The teachers are properly trained and dedicated to the Montessori method. There is so much consistency, calm, leading by example, respect, kindness, and fun because of the wonderful teachers. The classroom is clean and safe. The children are so happy at school and it was a privilege to get to observe the class deeply engaged in their work. The teachers also ensure daily outside play and healthy snacks. The children have close to a full hour of time where they prepare their eating area, and enjoy talking and eating without being rushed. They also clean up and put away their lunch time. Our 3 year old learned many "grace and courtesy" concepts at school that carried over to home life (walking quietly, carrying his plate, cleaning his area, saying a blessing/thanks). The communication between the teachers and parents is phenomenal. There is a great mix of incorporating art, music, outdoor exploration. There are usually a few special visitors (past examples include: firemen and fire truck visited the school, wildlife/biology professor visit, parents bringing farm animals for the children to interact with) and a group field trip. The children are all friends and there is a fair amount of diversity in the school population as well. I strongly encourage you to visit the school and speak with the director to answer any further questions you may have. This school is a community asset and we are so thankful our children were able to attend this school. This is the best Montessori school option in the area by far.

The teachers are amazing and instantly made my boy comfortable. It was his first time being out of the home on his own without family and he had no issues. The school is based in a church but it is not religious based. Religion is not banned like it many schools but it is not their focus. Beautiful environment for learning, great structure and gentle guidance for the young mind. If you are not familiar with the Montessori learning techniques read up on it and you will instantly know that is the place you want you child to be!!! Highly recommend this school!!!!

It is these values that help us go far in life in terms of occupation as well as the quality of our life. VMS feels more like a big family on a comfortable farm. My two children LOVE to go to school and at 5, my daughter is already working on multiplication because she enjoys it. Math is so much more fun when taught in a hands on colorful method. Maria Montessori was an amazing person and ALL schools can benefit from what she knew a century ago. I could not decide on the right school for my daughters but when I first visited, my gut feeling was this was the place for us and it was the best decision I could have made. I visited so many other schools, including other montessori programs, but none had the family feel of this one and the love these teachers and staff have for the children is exuded - you can feel it! Any sort of neurodivergence that is outwardly perceivable WILL be targeted and you will be pressured to conform by administration. This happened to me and countless others to the point some were pulled out of school due to the severity of this and if you DARE advocate for yourself, you will be forced into silence. Another issue was the extreme lack of diversity. Caucasian is 90% of the student body and staff, which caused feelings of alienation. The one good thing about this school were most of the teachers. Most of them really did or do try (did as in a large portion of staff were fired or resigned due to grievances with administration) but I fear this is not nearly enough to be worth it. I find this school a disgrace to Maria Montessori and an utter mutilation of her teachings.

There are about half-a-dozen Montessori programs in Lexington but absolutely NONE like Providence. I almost didn't want to preview the school due to the cost, but I decided to do so in order to view it as a benchmark. Unfortunately, once I stepped on the grounds I absolutely fell in love with the campus (which is about 5 acres, or so). The quality of the program, teachers, and personal attention is worth every penny! Although there are a couple other "good" Montessori schools in town, there is a very big difference between the Providence and the rest of them. We realized it was a large financial commitment, but the interviews we had with the school director, one of the teachers, and past parents made us realize that this school offered something very special. Our daughter is definitely above average in her verbal and certain other skills, but in just one month at Providence her various skill developement was astonishing. We also just had our first Parent-Teacher conference which even amazed my husband (and he took some convincing to go to the investigative interviews). Our experiences so far have proven to us that for the little extra cost over what your average daycare/preschool charges, you can get something so extraordinary that the decision is a no-brainer. I think the best testimony to the school is my daughter; she LOVES going to school!!!! Not that she was ALWAYS kicking and screaming when we went to her previous school....but she has NOT ONCE said "I don't want to go to school today". Just after a week of going there she insisted that I sneak into her classroom with her after school so she can show me all the cool "toys" she has played with that day. She's so proud of her school! We are now very excited about our son starting their toddler program there next fall. And even more so, we are thrilled to have the first Montessori High School coming here next year!!!

She has learned so much and she is always happy and excited for new challenges. The teachers are constantly rotating subjects in a seamless manner which keeps the children engaged. The blended age learning style really works for our child because she learns not only from the teacher but from the older children in class, it also helps her practice her kindness and patience by helping the youngest kids. Some of the things they teach them are practical life skills, so she is always eager to help around the house with cleaning, food prep, gardening, etc. She is in the Sweetgum classroom with the lead teacher April and we are very pleased with her leadership and with the kindness and professionalism of the other teachers (Terri, Nancy and Lindsey). You can walk your kid to their classroom so you get to see the class and how the students are working independently in such a calm and nice space. I always get quick responses from the teachers whenever I need help with anything. She gets to stay with the same teachers and the same classroom for 3 years which I think is unique from other schools. It is a community, our kid is constantly invited to birthday parties, play dates and the parents association is always planning fun events for the parents and students to come together. They also have a Spanish program and the teacher Paola is very fun and knowledgeable. The director Quinn and subdirector Jess, are very accesible and they are always there in the front office as soon as you come in, so you can always talk to them. Mc Kenzie at the front office is very attentive and quick to help with anything. One of my concerns about my kid starting prek so soon was the food but I'm so pleased with their food. Emily preps fresh and healthy food for them everyday, my kid now likes to eat curry, pea soup and all of the variety of food they prepare for them. They don't get any processed foods or snacks and that is very important for us. We have nothing but positive experiences with the school.

Unfortunately, your experience is very dependent on the teacher you get. While the Montessori philosophy promises a child-led education, the 6-9 classroom regularly employed punitive punishments like taking away recess if the child "fell behind" in their "child-led curriculum". There was poor communication with the parents; parents at the beginning of one school year were told about certain curriculum changes, and those were later modified without further communication with the parents. The lead teacher (now Director) in the 6-9 classroom had a history of difficult interactions with one of our children (it was bad enough that another teacher at the school approached us with their concerns about it!), so we attempted to work constructively with her to help her navigate the child's (extremely mild) anxiety issues. This teacher had at times paired this daughter with children that were bullying her in the classroom, dismissing our concerns about the classmate, laughing that "well, they may be fighting but it makes her vocal; sure, she's screaming, but that's a good thing, because she's coming out of her shell." This teacher treated our child's anxiety like it was a disciplinary or tough love issue and responded angrily as if the effort to work constructively with her on the issue was an attack. The classroom regularly discusses issues related to peace and community, but the leadership doesn't appear to live up to it. They reacted defensively and dismissively when several parents attempted to provide constructive feedback about certain policies that were not inclusive. Honest effort to work together as a community was dismissed as "negativity." "My way or the highway" appears to be the rule, which doesn't demonstrate much dedication to the community. We were quite happy with the other teachers in the classroom, and with the community of parents, the aftercare program, and our Pre-K experience. The quality of your BMS experience is very teacher dependent, and it is likely the parents giving five star reviews here simply had a different teacher. Though a lot of these reviews appear to be from teachers. Unfortunately, the school has high turnover with its teachers and aides, so I can't recommend it, in its current state, as at this point it's like gambling with your children's education. We are now getting a more child-led education in a multi-age classroom (a major part of what attracted us to BMS) in the public school system, saving $10K a year per child. Of course, they are missing the peace curriculum, but the current BMS leadership fails to live up to it, and their new school is a much better model for social justice and inclusiveness.
