Incredible fish, rice, and seaweed quality. Above and beyond your average spot. Rating this 4/5 due to the non-consensual use of wasabi in every bite. It was great wasabi, don't get me wrong, but they didn't advertise it being included in each and every bite/roll, didn't ask us whether or not we would like to include or exclude the wasabi, etc. We had delightful cuts of the best fish, but the wasabi really took away from it. It was more like wasabi rolls, not sushi rolls. Service was quite fast, and they greet you with a hot cup of green tea! Great lunch special located in downtown Frankfurt area. Unlike most other places, they still offers complimentary green tea (during lunch, not sure about dinner). Maruouchi bento is one of the best deal in town. Both quality and quantity did not disappoint. Legit, authentic Japanese restaurant that will make me to go back whenever I am back to town. read more

I happened to be walking around this area and a bit lost so, I opened my google map and noticed this place 50 meters from where I was standing and, decided to give it a try. It looks closed from the outside and has a black front with tiny windows. When you step in its small with room for about 20 people and, a sushi counter with some seats. It's seems to be run by a Japanese family and they are very polite and friendly. The lunch menu has quite a few options served bento style with a few combos from sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and so on. I decided to get the Zaru Soba with tempura, a cold noodle broth which I love and, haven't seen in Germany so often. It was amazingly good and the flavours were excellent. The tempura was nice but could have been slightly crispier. The serving size was good and you received complimentary green tea. All in all a great experience and I would happily come here again. It's reasonably priced and the food was fresh and flavorful. A nice place for a meal or a drink Japanese style :-) Must try the sashimi next time :-) read more

Very good sushi, especially considering you are having it in Germany. Felt like I was back in Japan, with good food in a cozy atmosphere. Tempura was very good, as well as the Udon. Lots of locals frequenting the restaurant and chef and serving staff are from Japan, but multilingual. read more

I took my girlfriend here to show her that Japanese food and sushi can be great after all! She didn't like the sushi -- but she just isn't a sushi eater, it seems. Overall, I was pleased. You do pay quite a lot for your food here and it's not the best sushi I've ever had in my life (though I found it quite good). I like how some of the fancy sushi places in America serve very interesting maki rolls, but I didn't see those here. Maybe I just missed them, or else maybe it's not very "authentically" Japanese. I've never been to Japan, so I wouldn't know. But the atmosphere is very nice and cozy, the other Japanese dishes are very good (like the salmon in one of the multi-course meals), and the service is very friendly. We also had some sake -- I recommend the cold one, especially in the boxy wooden bowl. It was delicious and fun to drink, too! They even have a number of Japanese spirits, including potato brandy. I tried it, but was not a huge fan. Overall, this is a fun place to go if you're willing to spend some money on a nice night out. It's not a great value, and it's also not the best sushi place in the world. But I did enjoy my dinner here and would recommend Iwase to those who enjoy sushi. read more

A "hole in the wall" gem. Comparing to Sushimoto at Westin Grand, is actually much better, if you look for authentic (or closer to authentic) Japanese food and more choice. The fish was fresh and the nigiri rice was prepared well, had their hamachi and uni nigiri. In addition Yamakake-Maguru, Chawanmushi, Shishamo, and Agedashi-tofu. All done well. Have been here for lunch and dinner a view times and never dissapointed. The lunch menus are amazing from sushi to sashimi sets but also tempura or udon. Lunch prices are fair. The quality is above standard. For dinner you have extensive menu to choose from. Service is always friendly. And yes you pay for dinner a bit more, however it is worth it. We stopped by at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night right when they were opening and found all the tables already reserved. After seeing the great reviews we definitely wanted to eat there so we made reservations for 9 pm and came back. We were not disappointing!! The food and service were incredible, the staff very helpful and friendly to English speakers. The food is traditional, authentic Japanese cuisine. This little Japanese restaurant in Innenstadt is genuinely Japanese. Always crounded by Japanese and locals, you absolutely need to make a reservation before getting there. Go by train, bus or foot instead of a car so that you can enjoy a nice cup of Sake. Very good for treating your business partners too. read more

Ich war gestern zum ersten Mal im Iwase und bin begeistert. Das Sushi schmeckt herrlich und das Restaurant wirkt sehr authentisch. Man sollte keine zu hohen Erwartungen an das Interieur stellen, da es insgesamt seht klein, eng und nicht super schick ist, dafür schmeckts aber toll. Teilweise muss man sich bei der Bestellung auch mit Englisch behelfen, was dem ganzen Erlebnis aber nicht schadet. Reservierungen sind empfehlenswert, weil nicht viel Platz ist. This is definitely one of the best sushi places in Frankfurt. The fish is very fresh and tasty. The price is quite high if you go there for dinner, but by Frankfurt standards, this pricing is considered normal. Other places that serve sushi that are cheaper do not compare in quality or taste. I tend to only go there for lunch, as it's much more reasonably priced. Absolutely recommended if you're looking to eat high quality sushi (the only kind worth eating, in my opinion) in Frankfurt. read more
