THE WORST MEXICAN RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER If Alberto is your waiter, LEAVE. I do NOT recommend going here, the sub-mediocre food is not worth the direct disrespect they give their customers. My family and I went to just try and have a nice dinner since we hadn't seen each other in a minute. The waiter was so rude and kept trying to say we said something when we did not. 1. We ordered a pitcher when we first sat down, we didn't receive it until the end of our meal AFTER we contacted another waitress. 2. I asked the waiter (ALBERTO) if I could get the polo loco but sub chicken for shrimp. They said it was a $6 upcharge so I said just give me the regular. He however still up charged me for the meal even after I told him no and expressed that it was wrong before eating it. 3. The waiter (ALBERTO) kept gaslighting us into thinking we don't remember ordering what we said. 4. This restaurant has been a mainstay in my family for over 30 years, longer than I've been alive. My grandparents went weekly for decades until my grandfather was too ill to go, and the staff were extremely lovely to my grandmother in that time. She doesn't go as often now, but they're always delighted to see her. The food is your standard Americanized Mexican, so if you're looking for authentic cuisine, another stop is probably your best bet. It's great food though, with a pleasant atmosphere! Ixtapa in Eastchase is my go to when shopping at Eastchase. They've been pretty consistent over the years. I love good old regular crunchy beef tacos and they season their ground beef just right. They use good crunchy shells too - much better than most! Their steak is good as well. A cut above most Mexican restaurants, Locos is my favorite local Mexican restaurant but Ixtapa is very good! It's a great spot for just coming out with family of friends and enjoying some nice Mexican food! So we were in Montgomery visiting a friend and she told us about this place so we stopped by. We didn't eat in but did the order in the parking lot. The person on the phone was very friendly and the food didn't take long either. I got the quesadilla with a taco. The food didn't take long to come out and it was a quick and easy process due to being safe with everything that's going on. So we made it home and the food was very plentiful and the queso dip was so good, it reminds me of the one I had at another restaurant here. My mom and sister enjoyed their food as well and we were all full. If we ever are in Montgomery again that's my go to spot. read more

About 35 years ago I started eating combination 41 at Ixtapa on the Atlanta highway. As my waste line enlarged I have weaned myself off Ixtapa just because of the calories involved and because of bad experiences at the Atlanta highway location (now closed). My wife and I recently tried Ixtapa again Our chips were overly cooked but outside of that we we're pleased. Combination 41 is now 32 but the quesadilla is still tasty, the flauta crispy , and I love the melted chili relleno. My wife's vegetarian combo was also satisfactory except for a blandness to the beans. Service was prompt and efficient as the case you years. I just wish my body would let me eat here more often. Me and mom went to this restaurant because she was hungry. She was escorting me a few blocks away from this restaurant for dental surgery with anesthesia and was unsure how long her wait would be, while I on the otherhand was restricted to not eat or drink water or anything on the midnight the day before and on this day of afternoon surgery. Hence I sat with mom as she ate. I ordered my food as takeout "to go" post surgery (or for the next day). I did not realize that my food ordered was missing until was unpacking the item at home. One item was missing. I also had not looked at the receipt itemization in the restaurant so My first thoughts were maybe it wasn't ordered / paid for - no worries. However the next morning morning I looked at the receipt that showed I had indeed paid for a missing item, and telephoned the restaurant. Well surprise surprise the rudest, offensive Manager, answers the phone dismisses the issue says he can not assist to resolve this in anyway- solely because he was not on duty, at the time of my purchase. He tells me to listen, that he can say no more or do any more, he repeats again and again that there is nothing he can do. He then tells me he is going to hang up and does so. Out of alarm and principle (with the receipt and my credit card) I head over to the restaurant. I have never imagined to have such an experience like this. The manager refused to even review the valid itemized receipt or offer anything except that he wasn't there and that he could not address the matter , that I should come back another day. I write this review only because of the "Absolutely worst and offensive managerial" customer service experience Ever!!!!!! I Would absolute not recommend and am filing formal complaints in every possible manner and credit card dispute for this restaurant's unresolved charges comparing to food order billed on take out receipt but never received. How absurd that a Manager on duty states he can not discuss or address any matter since he was not on duty at time of purchase/billing/ missed take out item. Worse yet he said he would look at camera later or ask server when she returned to work later in week. Manager refused to look at my $54 dollar receipt with credit card in hand and demanded that I should come back later. I read some positive reviews, which is why recommended Ixtapa to mom, but was very surprised by the blatant lack of custom service, which is for some as important as the food. I will not neglect to say that the food was also not impressive unlike the stretch of any other possibly false reviews. Just blah food from what mom said and from my take-out received. Threw most of the take out, which was primarily side dishes , refried beans very soupy and bland red colored unseasoned rice. Atmosphere appears dark and gloomy on inside compared to beautiful outside. Entire indoor decor needs better upkeep and updating. Mom said her tacos were mostly lettuce and flavorless. Tacos are favorite dish but she did not enjoy at all. She ate only half of one although she was hungry. This restaurant is probably my favorite restaurant to go to just because of two things. Great shrimp nachos and their frozen blackberry margaritas. I've had other things in the past but these items have had me hooked for a while and it never fails, always fresh and delicious. The shrimp is cooked and grilled to perfection, the cheese dip is just melted right, the tortilla chips are always hot and fresh. I've never had to complain about the amount of shrimp to chip ratio because they definitely put enough shrimp on the plate. The Margaritas that I've had have been great, from the regular frozen margaritas to their flavored ones, but that blackberry is definitely my favorite hands down. I will continue to come to this restaurant minimum once a week, you might as well say that I am a regular because they know my order soon as I sit down. read more

I went to Ixtapa today for lunch. They brought out the chips and salsa and finally took my order. I always only get beans and lettuce and eat them with the chips. I paid $3 for a side of lettuce on a hot plate. Then when I got the check, I was charged $1.75 for thr salsa I didn't want and $3 for the chips. I asked the server and he said they are free with an entree, but I didn't get an entree. I will never go there again. I will have to find another Mexican restaurant near my work. read more

I went to eat at this restaurant for my birthday with such great expectations. It's a beautiful place located in Eastchase which is super duper nice. It was my birthday and I went with my husband and our three kids. The first red flag is that you are not allowed to wait in the lobby which I partially get and partially don't. You don't want it to get too crowded. We were told they had no tables but when I went to use the rest room there were at least ten empty tables. I figured they didn't have the staff. The straw that broke the camels back was when the waiter came over, he acknowledged only my husband, and not anyone else at the table. Worst service. Sat in the bar area and when the server came he didn't know a Bloody Mary was a mixed drink. It was horrible. It was so lite it was almost Pink instead of Red. I had asked for a water and guacamole and had to wait to finally get a water after the drink arrived. I asked for salt which I never got and had to wait an extra 8 minutes to order after the table next to me sat down 10 minutes after me. When I asked for extra mix he said he couldn't give more liquor that's how it comes. I didn't ask for liquor only mix. Went for dinner. They we're very busy, but we were seated right away. Ordered chicken quesadilla from the menu, he said "one chicken quesadilla", I thought he meant one order. When the dish arrived it was only that, one quesadilla. When I questioned him, he showed me the menu, which had 3 different choices. So he left the dish and brought a 2nd one with a salad, which was what I wanted . The "salad" was plain lettuce with a few pieces of tomato. No drsg. Sour cream, guac. Or pico. Went for lunch with my son. He ordered a chimichanga and I ordered enchiladas verde. Within 4 minutes our food came out. My sons plate had a flour burrito with chicken but not crispy as is normal for a chimichanga and my plate had enchiladas with red sauce. I told the waiter that this was not our order. He said no you just pour cheese on it for my sons plate and he said yours is enchiladas. But verde is green sauce. Didnt get to try the food. Went to meet my cousins for dinner on Black Friday. Walked in and was not greeted...started for the door to the patio where my cousins stated they were and a server "Ana" states that the patio was not open. I followed her out to find several parties enjoying themselves including my cousins. We were told that not only could we not push together the table to accommodate our party, but that the remainder of our party could not sit at the table bc it was raining. But there really wasnt a reason, l believe that Ana was just upset that l followed her instead of taking her word that my family was not on the patio. She was rude, and stated that she was the ONLY manager present. Even if an establishment has rules they should be explained in a proper manner. No one apologized for the oversight or inconvenience and we had a child in our party who was hungry while we found an alternate place for dinner. We will not be back. read more
