I have ate at all the Mexican restaurants in Wetumpka after recently moving to the area. Many of them are good but El Patron by far is the best. It is always very clean. The service is fast and friendly! They have a large menu that even includes items for people who do not like Mexican food. My family and I have never had a bad meal here. The portions are large. Servers attentive and nice. Restaurant overall clean and well kept. I ordered basic enchiladas that came out hot and fast. Salsa was okay, nothing special. Margaritas good. The prices were a little more than what I'm use to at a Mexican restaurant, but I guess with the cost of everything else today. This was a recommendation from a business owner in Downtown Wetumpka. We decided to try it for dinner with our elderly parents. Everyone was very nice and patient. Their food was amazing with large portions. We are from the southern border of Arizona so we had high expectations which they absolutely met. The molcajete bowl can easily be shared with 2-3 people. Flavor was spot on with quality ingredients. Mom liked the 3 shrimp tacos, dad who eats very little enjoyed a good portion of the enchiladas. Hubby had the chilaquiles with chorizo and he was happy to finally eat authentic Mexican food. The molcajete bowl was too big of a portion for 1 and I ended up taking home 75% of it. We've been in AL less than 2 months and we were missing real Mexican food. We will be return customers for sure! read more

I've given EL Patron 2 chances and will never be back. This place clearly doesn't understand that a burrito should be able to eaten hand held. I ordered a burrito with no sauce, and it came open faced.. if the owners are in fact Hispanic, they should be embarrassed. Not sure what to call this mess. Tortilla was as bad as Taco Bell, sort of like card board, steak wasn't fresh and way over cooked. I ordered a bean, cheese and steak burrito.. might have had a tablespoon of beans.. being from the west coast, I know what Mexican food should be like, and El Patron needs to either fire it's entire kitchen staff or learn how to cook.. We had a friend we saw at the restaurant pay our bill unbeknownst us. They still took our payment too. When we found out they made us feel like we were lying and made us prove it. Which we did!! They said they would look into it. "Supposably" the cashier paid the bill for the wrong table. The manager was so rude to me. Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in town. I have not found a Mexican restaurant that I enjoy since I left San Diego. I stopped eating Mexican food on the east coast. Came in because my mom wanted it. OMG, this is soooooo freakin good. I wish we had El Patron in Jacksonville Fl. I would definitely drive 6 hours back here just to get some of this. I ordered food to go the other night from El Patron and they said it would be ready in 20-30 minutes so I arrived 5-10 minutes after the time it was supposed to be ready.
