Wonderful experience here for a haircut. Markus was awesome - took a lot of time and effort to give me the best haircut ever.

I have been to the downtown Izzazu location several times (I have not yet had the chance to check out their new digs, however) and have always left really pleased. I have used their waxing and haircut services and have had no complaints. In both areas, the girls I worked with took the time to listen to me before beginning work and I ended up with exactly what I was looking for. I always got compliments on my hair after getting it cut. As for price - their stylists are tiered and have different price scales. I asked while on the phone making my appointment and had no surprises. After trying many salons that didn't make the cut (yay puns!) and ending up with bangs, mullets, and other horrible cuts, I am sticking with Izzazu. read more

I found a RISING STAR. Markus is amazing. I moved to Pittsburgh late December 2019. I have been on the search for a stylist that could nail my bleach and tone for the perfect blonde. Before going to Izzazu I had went to 3 different salons all to be disappointed. My first visit to Izzazu downtown was on a groupon for a cut, conditioning treatment and blowout. I was paired with Markus. He is a level 1 newer stylist working to build a clientele. He did a fabulous job from the cut to the full bodied sexy blowout. He is very meticulous. While in his chair I mentioned my disappointment so far finding a blonding specialist here in Pittsburgh. He said he would like the opportunity to do my bleach and tone. He is still assisting and is only behind the chair on Thursdays. He said he understood if I booked with a more senior stylist especially since I had so many prior failed attempts. I told him I would think about it. I must also mention that when I was at the shampoo bowl Emilio stopped by and introduced himself. He gave off a truly humble and genuine vibe. I knew this was going to be my new salon home. I took a few days and after talking it out with my Husband I decided to let Markus shoot his shot. After all he is a licensed stylist and if I didn't like it I could always try someone else. My deciding factor really was his passion for hair that shines through. I booked for a Thursday (his only day for now- I hope he gets Tuesdays too Hint Hint) I ran over after work. It took a little longer than I am used to, but the final result was worth it. I FINALLY left the salon absolutely LOVING MY HAIR. Don't hesitate book with Markus and if Thursdays don't work still go to this salon. My mother is a hairdresser and so she has done my hair my whole life. Aside from a mall stylist trim in Texas, and a cut from my bestie's mom, no one else has ever touched my hair. I just wanted to say that Hilary took as much time with my thin hair as she would have with a full mane of locks which made me feel pretty special. Highly recommended! My first experience at Izzazu on Fifth Avenue was awesome! It seems like they get a lot of business, and they have awesome receptionist who schedule customers in a timely manner. which I'm sure is nice for the stylist not running up to the phone. They have very experienced hair stylist that work and move like hair styling ninjas. Rhiannon was soo awesome, being that she used to be the owner's assistant I felt like i got lucky getting her and I've never had my hair cut with someone who has a huge passion as a hair stylist. Honestly, my hair has NEVER looked this good, I thought there was no hope for me because my hair is soo thick, and it never was what i wanted after getting it cut, but I look good and feel confident about my hair. Unpleasant experience. My cut and color are fine. And that's it. But the overly-pushy hairdresser who did it stressed me out. The hairbowl was dirty. The hair implements used on me were not sanitized. He got dye all over my face. One of my eyebrows is dyed darker because he was so sloppy dying my hair that it got ALL over my face, and he didn't try very hard to get it off. Imagine my surprise when I got home and saw that I had been walking around like that all afternoon. He worked so quickly, literally hustling me from color to cut, the whole time telling me how amazing he is and how I should go on the website and give him a good review and how he wants me to come back. It was unsettling, and I wouldn't be surprised if he were on some artificial pick-me-up. I won't be going back. It was just not good enough. And the color I got I could have done at home out of a box. (I looked up the stylist who did it, his name was Brittano. At the downtown location. There are many things I love about getting my hair done by Karol at Izzazu. It begins with a warm welcome by the receptionist and then Karol making me feel very comfortable. Karol truly listens to exactly what you want. She is an expert on color and cuts. I have hard to color blonde and she never over bleached my hair. Finally, she leaves me with tips on how to style, maintain my hair and color. Karol is such an amazing person and I appreciate all the time and effort she puts into my hair. Emailed and called several times to get a pricing on having several services done at once as a graduation present to myself. I was put on hold twice and never picked back up. Emails went unanswered. :( I was going to have SO MUCH done, too!! Hair cut, color with highlights, spa manicure/pedicure and an hour massage! All as a graduation present to myself but if they can't be attentive to prospective customers then I can't imagine that they'd be attentive in the store. I'll spend my money elsewhere! read more

Sadly, the professionalism of the front desk never got better. Despite Emilio's assurances that changes were being made, my latest visit proved otherwise. I called ahead and was assured that Marshall was on time...in fact, he didn't have an appointment ahead of mine and could take me as soon as I got there. I was there a few minutes before my appointment. I waited. And waited. Fifteen minutes later, I asked if Marshall knew I was waiting. I was told by the brunette that they had been busy. Odd, she, the blonde and two other employees had been standing there talking for a while. She went back to notify Marshall. When Marshall came up front to get me, the brunette admonished him that he should keep an eye out for his clients - she shouldn't have to notify him that his appointment is there. Wow. And the purpose of a receptionist is....what? I'm done. I'm out. Apparently nothing will help Izzazu's but getting rid of the front desk staff. On a positive note, it was another great cut. Not good enough to lure me back, though. read more

Poor planning. I called and made the appointment, and then while I was driving to the appointment the receptionist called and said my stylist had the flu (I completely understand people get sick). This was going to be my first time at the salon, and they had no way of working me in to their schedule that day at all- that I had taken off of work for the appointment. If someone is sick that is okay, but you should be able to call them before they are on their way to the appointment and/or give another option of a different opening that day. read more

Rhiannon performs amazing feats on my fine hair and is able to accommodate to any style/cut/color I throw at her - but not without making sure it's what I really want. She explains how a cut could work or not work for your face type/lifestyle, etc. and really takes the time to listen. Horrible experience. Haircut was fine, but does not outweigh the horrible customer service starting from the phone call to book the appointment. When I phoned to make my appointment, I was put on hold. After ten minutes, a lady picked up and went, "Cathy?" I said, no, I was put on hold. She goes, "oh someone told me there's a call for me" and continued to put me on hold. Then, another lady picked up and went, "hello this is izzazu, how can I help you?" I said, "I've been put on hold and I'd like to make an appointment." She goes, "ok hold please". After 20 min, I hung up, called again, and was finally able to get my appointment booked after the fourth call. Fast forward to the day of. I arrive on time and was told to wait for "Craig". After patiently waiting for 45 minutes, I went up to the counter and asked about my appointment. They said Craig hasn't came in to work yet. Ok, I didn't book my appointment with a specific person, so I don't really care as long as my hair gets cut. I wait for ten more minutes, the front desk lady comes up to me and says, "he's sick and throwing up, so he's not coming in today. You might have to come another day." I did not book my appointment with Craig, I don't know who he is, and I didn't just waste over two hours with this salon only to come back another day. Thankfully another stylist interjected out conversation and took me in and did a quick cut. Disorganized, chaotic, definitely does not value it's customers. I have not had a worse experience in dealing with any businesses and would definitely not go back again. read more

Very welcoming and cheery place! I had the good fortune to be coming here with a Groupon and also have Lindsay as my stylist. It's very open and airy, pleasant lighting and cheery receptionists. I had no problem using the Groupon straight from my email without downloading the app or having to print it out! Lindsay got me both coffee and water in some classy glasses and listened carefully as I described my hair, which needed heavy conditioning. It went as decently as a normal hair appt would. read more

This place is nice , my stylist was nice too.. BUT I had a Groupon, I have noticed that they don't treat you equally if you have a Groupon. I bought the most expensive package of 100 bucks to get my hair Ombré highlights. Two issues: if you look at me now within 4 days, you will think even regular highlights get done better than this. Second- I had grey hairs , It needed root touch up- they charged me 70$ for that .. when I look at the Groupon they are supposed to charge just 15$ for additional coloring.. my highlights won't show up - there are missed spots for highlights. If I go again, I will go to regular stylist possibly. read more

I came in on a Groupon. They were kind to squeeze me in the same day I called and within the hour. However when I got there, it appeared the stylist didn't know yet so when the one receptionist left to tell him, the other said to her, "He's going to kill you." Granted, I didn't know what they were talking about... but whatever that statement meant, it didn't make me feel welcomed. But when the stylist washed my hair, he literally only massaged the shampoo into half of my head, rinsed it out for 10 seconds, and finished "washing my hair" in the speediest time ever. He also went on to give me the fastest haircut I've ever had. When I asked for side bangs, he basically refused and just trimmed my hair that would be side bangs. And when I told him my that my hair is naturally shiny and I don't like products in it, he still put oil in my hair without asking. He was nice and did a nice job blow-drying my hair, but I was very disappointed with my cut. read more

My haircut price is reasonable and it's so convenient to go during lunch, it's comfortable and a good mini-escape from the office. I make special trips to Pittsburgh from Virginia just to have Annie H. cut, color and style my hair. She knows the latest and greatest in hair fashion and I always get stopped on the street to ask where I got my hair done (even for many months afterwards). She is very skilled at what she does and my hair looks like what you see in a magazine, no joke. You want the balayage or ombre done right? See Annie. I've been going to Izzazu for almost 5 years, and I have never had a bad experience. i go to Megan, who is delightful and also gives great haircuts.I've never had an extensive wait - I used to be able to get a cut on my lunch when I worked downtown. The only reason I didn't give four stars was the cost. Haricuts are 50 dollars with my stylist which is a bit pricey, but as I've learned, you get what you pay for. I have noticed complaints from other reviewers regarding coloring service, but I don't color, so I can't speak to that. Also, they are no longer located on the Blvd of the Allies - they are on 5th and wood now. The new salon space is very clean and beautiful. The location is great if you work downtown, which I no longer do, but they have extended hours, so I'm still able to make it down there on a week night. read more

I was in Pittsburgh for business but I needed a haircut and I did a little search on social media to try and locate an appropriate salon and came across Izzazu so I decided to give them a try. So happy I did because they made the entire process as seamless as I would have hoped. The young lady at the front desk was so welcoming and friendly she certainly enhanced the overall experience. After much thought, I purchased a groupon and was scheduled with Rhiannon. She's amazing....I went in with shoulder length hair and came out with a velvety chocolate pixie cut. Had a first time appointment with Kyle. Waited maybe 10 minutes in reception until she took me back. She was very nice and despite my box color and general lack of style, I did not feel judged. Not only is she an amazing colorist but she's FAST too! A little over 2 hours for the works - cut, color, highlights/lowlights, blowout, and I have long hair. I didn't sit under a hair dryer or have to be toned, I'm still trying to figure out how she did it! I see blonde, YES, blonde highlights in my hair, and not orangey streaks. Weeks later and I'm still feeling fabulous, will definitely be back. read more

I bought a Groupon that advertised $25 for a shampoo, cut and style that was regularly $70 (64% discount ). All of that was GREAT! Craig did my hair and he was excellent and professional. My problem is the price of the Groupon. I didn't get to choose one of the hairdressers, which I totally understand. However, when I was leaving. I wanted to leave a tip based on the full cost of the service, not the Groupon price. I asked the receptionist and she said that the service I received was $30! That's nowhere near 64% off! I had an appointment that was made 2 months in advance and when I turned up they told me that the person I had the appointment with quit 6 weeks ago and they didn't have anyone available to take me. They made no attempt to reschedule me with someone else or call me to cancel. To make things worse, the battleax at the front desk had such an attitude. Here's a tip, when you are in the beauty salon business, staff the front desk with someone who looks like they have actually BEEN to a salon. Not with rude women that have hairdos from 20 years ago. Love Val & Adina, both are great and listen to what you want! I go for a blonde bob style with high and low lights and always leave very happy with color and cut!! Decor is very fabulous. I've gone for a wedding and love the upstairs private area with big chandeliers and you can bring champagne. One negative is the front staff. Long waits on the phone making appointments & they're not very friendly (don't smile, never compliment, seem unhappy). Best salon in the city, but I hope owners can work with the front staff be more professional and friendly. read more

I had a groupon for Izzazu and although the stylist was nice, I overpaid. I had a hair cut and color. My appointment was a month ago and the color has completely faded. My roots are now no better than they were a month ago, before the appointment. I get better results from a box of color (which disappointed me). The stylist took a long time looking at my hair, and determining what to do. I told her that I was trying to grow it out. She asked me, "are you sure." I responded 'yes" and she proceeded to cut it short. The hair cut was not what I wanted that I went home and fixed it by cutting it myself. I can't wait until it grows in and I can get it fixed. At least that will grown in. I thought I had a good deal with the groupon. It was not a good deal. I will not go back and will discourage others to spend that much money and not get what you want. read more

I recently had semi-permanent lashes put on for my wedding at the WEXFORD Izzazu salon. Upon completion, I thought they looked a bit odd, but figured I just wasn't used to them yet. The next day was my wedding day, and my bridesmaids and I got our hair and makeup done at the downtown Izzazu salon. The makeup artist (who was great) said they looked terrible (which they did- they were uneven and there was white glue all over them) and had to remove them and reapply. They are supposed to last 2 weeks, so removing them the next morning was very unpleasant and I ended up losing a ton of my real lashes when everything was said and done. This added 1 hour+ onto my appointment and I ended up barely having any time for pictures before my wedding. I would steer clear of Izzazu for semi permanent lashes! read more
