It's more of an art shop or boutique than art gallery I think. It's owned by the incredibly talented local artist Chad Mize, and run by artists whose work is available in store for purchase. Great spot to pick up holiday presents. One of my favorite St. Pete. artists, Calan Ree, had a whole little display. The entire shop was filled with cool and unique offerings from multiple different artists. I'm still kicking myself I didn't buy the two-headed gingerbread ornament or the sparkly embellished Taco Bell hot sauce packet ornament.

I follow the SHINE Mural Festival on Instagram because I am just obsessed with the beautiful…read moreartwork that the artists give us to look at and I got a notification about there being a SHINE Year 7 Exhibit ending the next day at the Mize Gallery and I was all in. I had never heard of the Mize Gallery before but that made it even better, a new local business and SHINE artwork. I wasn't sure what to expect because I didn't look up anything on the exhibit. When I got there I was surprised to see that all the pieces of art where circular, I was expecting bigger or more like a mural. Each artist was given the circular canvas to told to make whatever they wanted. The exhibit was all artists, not just specific SHINE artists, which was awesome. All of them were so different and wonderful. I actually walked around the gallery twice. While I was there, one of the artist came in as her piece had already sold. I spoke with her briefly and she was the artist of the piece that I actually loved the most. It was really great to see so many of the pieces marked as sold already, not for me though. LOL. Both artist and Chad were super nice and invited me to an opening the following week but unfortunately I wasn't able to attend. The gallery is worth checking out for the different exhibits that they will have and supporting the artists!

I previously purchased blank invitations on sale at Target and I wanted to avoid the hassle of printing myself on my home printer. Unfortunately most printers refuse to print on these type of invitations because they want you to purchase their own card stock. (The card stock also needs to be a certain thickness for their machines to work as well, but these invitations were compatible.) I was able to email Mr. Bates templates that I liked as well as the format that I wanted. He matched the fonts that I emailed him perfectly He was able to give me a proof the very next day. As a bit of a perfectionist, I met with him three times to change my invitation wording and he was so very patient with me. I couldn't be happier with the final result. After having him print 60 invitations, 60 response cards, and 60 return envelopes, the price was around $55. That's extremely cheap for a print shop. Bates Printing has been active in St. Pete for many years and I will continue to support this local business for all my printing needs.
