Had a problem with the canvas separating from the back window on my convertible right before the holidays and a few major snowstorms. I tried to fix it myself but the canvas had shrunk too much to reconnect. I called Accurate Auto Tops and J & J and J & J was cheaper by well over $100.
When I got there they pointed out I had several small holes in the roof and recommended I replace the whole thing as it would be cheaper than fixing the window now and replacing the canvas top later. I was not happy about this as it was twice as much, but decided to go with it. They're not really near anything you can walk to so I was marooned there for the better part of an afternoon. They have a pleasant waiting area and Wi-fi so I just camped out on my computer while they worked.
The receptionist - Pat I think? - is a very nice lady and offered to make me coffee while I waited, which was much appreciated since there was nowhere to walk to to get it. All things considered, the repair only took 3-4 hours, which I don't think was unreasonable and they did it on the same day so that was a help too.
Before I left they explained to me that the rubber weather sealing might need replaced or that I might notice leaking. I had a problem with a slight leak in front from it before I came in. They offered to put the rubber on the car if I bought it.
A day or two later the back seat was soaked. I took it back in and the guy who had fixed it stopped what he was doing and very thoroughly - but pleasantly - explained to me what happened. One of the back gutters must have got clogged but had since been flushed out. He looked in the car at all the gutters and we poured water on it to see where it was going. He also showed me where the leak in the front had been coming in.
Writing this review, you may ask why I am giving the place 5 stars. Having the problem with the convertible top was lousy, and so was having the leak in my car. I am rating them well because their staff was pleasant and helpful. The initial problem with the roof certainly wasn't their fault and I don't really think the leaks were either, but they spent the time with me to help me troubleshoot what was leaking and now things are ok. They made sure I understood what was going on and did so without being rude or condescending about it. Even though I wish I didn't have to replace the top, the new one does look much, much nicer. I feel like they did the job I paid them for well, quickly, and for less than Accurate Auto Tops, which is one of the only other places to get work like this done. I do wish they had cleaned up after themselves a little better after replacing the top but it wasn't an awful mess and I don't consider it worth knocking off a star over. My car needed vacuumed pretty bad anyway.
Seeing the new top made me think about how nice my car could look again. Maybe when I save up some money I'll go here to replace the carpeting on the floor of my car, which is looking kind of worn. I would trust them to do the work. read more
