A disastrous experience with this office for our Hood River-based nonprofit. We paid for our 2022…read morereturn filing in October 2023. When we received the return for a final check (days before the November 15 filing deadline), we pointed out mistakes. Mary Lewis filed the 6-month extension and was given the information needed to make the corrections on November 14, by phone and by email. Between November 2023 and May 15th, 2024, she repeatedly failed to return phone calls or messages, and didn't show up for a scheduled appointment. In desperation, several board members made at least 2 trips to TD to meet with Mary and had experiences with her that were, at the least, bizarre. During one 3-hour meeting in April (one board member wrote "That was 3 hours that ...we will not get back!! Mary had not spent any time on our account...") Mary wasted time talking and showing videos of her pygmy goats. In early May, driven by our worry that we would incur penalties due to a late filing and with no updates from Mary or the office, a board member once again drove to sit with her and try to get the taxes filed. During that 4-hour "meeting," Mary turned off her computer and said she "needed a break". She spent time coloring in an adult coloring book - asking our board member to admire the pretty colors. She suggested ordering the books (apparently her daughter makes them?), shared videos of her adult daughter singing in a Christmas pageant, and did no work on our filing (which, frankly, could have been done months earlier and certainly required no more than 30 minutes of time). This bizarre and unprofessional behavior by a "senior tax adviser" is apparently not problematic for H&R Block management in TD. In fact, the only way we actually got our tax return filed on time was through reaching out to the corporate offices of H&R Block (mediadesk@hrblock.com) and asking HOW to get help for the terrible ongoing situation in the TD H&R Block office that this got resolved. Even the corporate H&R Block representative had trouble getting anyone to respond. OH ... and on the day the filing was due, we were asked to pay a 2nd fee (we'd already paid it in October 2023) because the filing was "stuck" in their system, and no one in TD knew how to get it unstuck and filed. The local TD representative spent several hours on the "tech support" helpline (getting disconnected multiple times) - and perhaps understanding a tiny part of our frustration when we had failed to be able to get the H&R Block website to set up appointments, or H&R Block representatives to actually show up for appointments. When we reported our concerns to our full board in April, a board member who hadn't been aware that we were working specifically with Mary Lewis described a similar experience with her (in his case, a late filing involved a penalty). The best advice I can offer is to avoid this office at all costs - and if forced to go there due to lack of alternatives, avoid at all costs working with Mary Lewis, unless you want to spend time playing with adult coloring books and watching videos of her daughter (28 years old) in a Christmas pageant, and then worrying about the deadline and the accuracy of what is being prepared. By the way, as you'll see on the H&R Block website for TD, there is no one listed as the manager for that office. There is no one listed as a regional manager. Apparently no one takes responsibility for the professionalism or work produced by the employees in the office. That alone is a red flag. Our own filing is not complex - no employees, no depreciation, no vehicle expenses, no raffles, etc. A past board president sadly chose H&R Block while he was ill and being treated for ongoing serious medical situations, and unfortunately made that choice for our taxes without asking for help. We won't be using H&R Block again... I will also say that a representative at H&R Block, who is out of their corporate office in Kansas City, is working on getting us a refund for the overpayment and has repeatedly apologized for the terrible service. She also experienced difficulties in getting TD staff to respond. BTW, once it became clear that we had reached out to the Kansas City corporate office, local employees (suddenly we learn who's the "manager") talked about us sending "bad comments" to HQ. Yet another example of the lack of professionalism in the office - instead of a sincere apology for what we endured in terms of worry about a late filing, or the months without a response from Ms. Lewis, we were "bad" because we complained.

I learned a lot from the tax preparer I used at this business. Will Make gathering tax deductions…read moreeasier next year! Appreciate the extended hours.
