Pray they don't leave the neighborhood because the bike lanes have removed any way to easily pull in front of the store for loading/unloading - they are the best. I'm a bike rider too and don't want to see the new lanes shutting down small independent businesses like this - there must be a way to adjust.

The lady in charge when I went didn't know specifically what they had, but instantly knew what it cost when she saw it! In my case, as well as any owner of a Pyrex 9x13 baking pan, this trip was a major score. They have a $6 10x18 pan grate that fits snugly secured to the handles of the pan so you can roast meats as drippings fall 2" into the Pyrex. Also, the same "Winco" brand has a grate which fits inside the same glass Pyrex pan. If you want to elevate a small roast inside the 9x13, this $4 grate fits perfectly too. This stuff isn't easily found...just saying.

The selection though was about half of what the other store had. Sunlight's prices did seem slightly better on most things, though. They had an extensive selection of all things kitchen and food prep...pots, pans, dishes, utensils, trays, ...pretty much anything you might find in a restaurant was here and cheap.

After nearly 30 years of living in Forest Park, I have never had a problem with a local business…read moreand especially not Shauers Hardware until September 1. I stopped in shortly after opening and purchased two 9/16" rubber washers for approximately $1. Since I didn't have cash, I used my debit card. The cashier informed me there was a $3 minimum purchase requirement. When I said I did not need anything else, a man I assume was the owner told the cashier to simply add $2 as "labor" to reach the minimum. I found it strange that I was charged an additional $2 for no product or service. Although it was only $2, it was still money taken from my pocket for nothing. After leaving, I recalled that businesses are generally prohibited from imposing minimum purchase requirements on debit card transactions. I called the store to discuss the issue, but the person who answered, whom I believe was the same individual, abruptly hung up. I then returned to the store, where he was waiting near the entrance. When I showed him information regarding the law as it relates to debit card minimums, specifically 15 U.S.C. § 1693o-2 (Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act) he responded, "I was the one who hung up on you. I don't care. Have a nice day. Go tell your President." Regardless of the amount involved, what disappointed me most was the attitude and lack of professionalism displayed by the owner. I have always tried to support local businesses, but after this experience, I will not be returning. The $2 isn't the issue. The issue is an owner who apparently believes the rules don't apply to him and treats customers with contempt when they're brought to his attention. I hope the appropriate agencies and card networks share his confidence.
