Cramer Siding & Window - Plenty of room for lady bugs!

    Cramer Siding & Window

We decided to go with another company but felt a need to comment after reading the only other…read morereview. I called many companies. The responses and approaches to a bid were quite varied. At one end of the spectrum, onc guy dropped by and got the measurements before even calling me. The neighbor thought him a prowler. A few did not show up, or showed up quite late. Some had difficulty with detail and questions. Some were just too busy, or the person answering the call unprofessional. With the three finalists there was still some back and forth of clarification. Cramer would be on the other side of that spectrum. The scheduler seemed trained to ensure that both halves of the household signing would be present at the meeting. The approach seemed a little dated. The gal at a loss as to explain or convince as to why to my satisfaction. But it did seem as if time could be best utilized if both signing parties were present to get a full and quick answer. They called, to confirm the day before, and eariler that morning and arrived on time. I had no idea the gentlemen arriving would be so detail oriented and unfortunately could not have in the house. He seemed to take it in stride. I have to say he gave a thorough presentation, complete with swatches of soffit, various gutter guards, with and without venting, and more. We learned a great deal from his presentation. Mr. Burdette (Design Consultant) stated he was born and raised in the area, and Cramer has been around decades and guaranteed their work. Afterwards was presented FOUR quotes based on various options. So if TIME is important, and you have lots of questions and would like options. The meeting will take longer than a walk around the garage. I can reccomend giving them a chance even though my husband chose someone else. My only critism is that the schedulers might want to use "the person making the final decision and the person signing the contract" instead of terms like "wife" and "husband." Not to be oldfashioned or seem sexist but for clarity.

All gaps were caulked and we haven't had an issue with those windows. Last winter, I had Cramer replace the upstairs windows (At about twice the cost per window). The installation was very poor and I've had to go back with 1/8 and 1/4 inch backer rod and then caulk to seal the gaps. Several of the windows were installed so poorly that the locks don't latch properly and cold air is just pouring through on all sides. As they were finishing up this time, I asked about the caulking. "Oh, we don't do that any more." I know I should have had them come back and re-do the entire job but, honestly, I refuse to let them in my house again. Buyer beware.

Second Street Renovations - Typical of their work.

    Second Street Renovations

I held off on writing this for a long time because I wanted to give them a chance. We hired second…read morestreet several times for projects on our home (in fact, several of the photos on the website are my home) and when we needed to redo a screen porch and deck chose this company over another well known and respectable company with a lower bid. I have regretted it ever since. I was quoted, and paid for a 1 week job that has yet to be completed in nearly 5 months. Professionalism is lacking. The crew that came left garbage, clothing and cigarettes buds in our yard. The police contacted me regarding the crew's suspicious behavior on our property, and I came home one day to a child in a car outside my house in August. Skill is lacking- the work was terrible. After three times of "fixing" it, the new crew ripped out the entire deck because it was so bad it would not be salvaged. I was told, by Second Street they subcontracted the work and the wrong materials were used. I will say, Second Street did take ownership of the poor craftsmanship and came up with a plan to remediate this on September 12. It is December and this has not been completed. Communication is poor. While Josh and Tim are both incredibly kind, Josh has stopped answering my texts or returning my calls. Josh set up a time for us to meet with the owner Clayton via telephone, did not keep this appointment and has ignored all communication attempts since then. Honestly is lacking. Each person gives a different story as to who is in charge, who I should contact, and often we are given excuses (out of town, ill, etc) when another crew member divulges they were actually working on another job. All I'm asking is they complete the job they were hired to do. The company has over spent and can't afford to finish the work they started, even though I paid them in August. The misuse of resources in concerning and we have been punished for their poor business practices. I wanted to end this with that despite the errors the company acted with integrity and made good on their commitments, but that hasn't happened. I would caution anyone against hiring Second Street. I would strongly recommend Stan, one of their employees who has worked on the re do and if possible, would suggest hiring him independent of Second Street. He is very talented.

The people at 2nd Street are some of the nicest around, but I could never recommend them. The…read morepictures on their website were the style and quality I wanted for bathroom reno. I found out the pictures were stock. Not illegal, but the captions on the website suggested the pictures were their work. They weren't. Those stock pics are now gone but almost every post on their FB page is stock pics. It's misleading if a company cannot do the kind of the work stock images show. 2nd Street cannot. I needed a full custom renovation. One of the most critical problems was an exhaust fan that went to my attic and not the outside. I emphasized this over and over. Tim assured me they could route the exhaust fan to the outside. But he left it off the estimate and claimed later that he couldn't remember my ever asking for it (they did the work but with material that can't handle winter in an attic). He wrote up the most general, imprecise estimate I've ever seen. I almost dropped the project when I discovered the pictures were stock images, but the guys were so nice and assured me they could do the work. I decided to go ahead. Bad move. Tim told me he was not good with people so assigned the project to someone else. The new guy was great at first, but started to text me saying he couldn't come -- over and over. The project had to be done before I had a tenant move in because it's my only bathroom. Weeks dragged on. I expressed concern about timeline. The worker texted with many emergencies. I was always understanding. One day when he didn't show up, I texted Tim asking if he would be coming because we were months behind. Tim told me the worker was in the hospital. I texted back the kindest note. But I got a text from the worker saying his car broke down in Iowa. He wasn't in the hospital. I wondered how many times I'd been lied to about the worker not being able to come for the day. It is impossible to list the problems with the actual work. Wavy drywall was never removed. Cabinets were hung at different heights. Tub was installed incorrectly. Electrical outlets were installed (without consulting me) where the mirror needed to be hung. They told me last minute I wouldn't have a toilet overnight so I had to get a hotel room, and they never offered to pay for it. I went two weeks without a shower and over two weeks without a door on the bathroom. They scratched up the brand new toilet seat the day after it was installed. They put minor scratches in the new tub. I fixed one, and one is still there. They failed to cover things for protection even when I begged them to. They got gunk all over brand new floor tiles; I was cleaning their mess daily. The tile grout cracked within days of installation, and they never sealed it, leaving it vulnerable to mold as I was using the shower for months. They took a piece of original trim off the wall and LOST it. They drilled holes all the way through the wall to my bedroom and never fixed the damage (they tried but couldn't). Their plumber wrecked the top of my dryer (he didn't cover it) and Tim suggested that the plumber couldn't have done it. Actually, the workers who were in the bathroom HEARD the plumber drop heavy things on the dryer and acknowledged that the plumber damaged it. 2nd Street will not fix it. They drilled 2 holes that cannot be filled in a brand new custom vanity; they won't pay for replacement doors. They installed a custom mirror incorrectly (I'd told them how, even sent a text about it, and they did it the opposite way), broke it, and gouged the wall. They told me they were already working on a new mirror the day it broke, but they did not replace the mirror and they won't. They left huge holes in the tub surround where niches were to go -- for months. I finally asked if they'd ever done a niche. Tim said yes. I asked if he could show me pictures or if he had references. He said no and he wasn't comfortable asking for references. I was beyond frustrated. My tenant moved in, making everything 3x worse without a finished bathroom. Then 2nd Street bailed on the project -- just came, took their stuff, and left. Tim first came to my house in Feb 2024. They started work March 2024. They bailed at the end of July. This project was the worst experience of my nearly 20 years of homeownership. They say they will reimburse me for things, but they won't. They never even finished my project but they say they will take my receipts and put them toward the balance. Once I pay off the balance of a project they didn't complete (with a discount I was supposed to get even if they'd not bailed), they will start reimbursing. They put off my project for months and did so much damage, but they will not take responsibility. I found new guys to finish the project who have 2-3 decades of experience. They've had to undo so much of what 2nd Street did, then redo. I could never ever recommend 2nd Street. I have sought legal advice and will be filing a complaint with the BBB.
