This is my experience with J & S Steamway. Yesterday 6/17/15 I decided to call around to find a business to clean my small ottoman. I decided to call J & S Steamway because they have been a local business for a very long time and I like to support local small business. I talked to a man for awhile about my needs, including the fact that the ottoman had dog urine on it and that was my biggest concern. We talked about the chemical treatment needed and whether the urine was on just the sides or on the top as well. That was the depth of detail we went into, there was no misunderstanding. He quoted me $50 for the job, which I thought was a bit high but agreed and arranged to bring the ottoman by today, which I did. The woman in the office was quite nice and we chatted while she was writing up my ticket. She told me the job would be $75 and I told her that I was distinctly told that the job was quoted to me at $50 and she said alright and finished the paperwork. During that time a small oddly balding man came out and stood nearby getting a cup of water. He was listening to the entire conversation. I thought perhaps he was a customer, but none of the office personnel addressed him, so I concluded that he worked there. I tried to make eye contact and to offer a smile but he was having none of it, spent the entire rest of the time I was there nursing his cup of water and it was obvious that he was listening to our conversation. About 2 hours after I left I got a call from J & S Steamway from a "gentleman" that told me that he was the owner and that the price had jumped up again to $85.00. It wasn't due to the condition, he said that $85 was the charge and if I didn't like it, I could pick up my ottoman. Very curt, very rude. He repeated several times that if I didn't like it, I could come and get my ottoman. So first, J&S quoted me $50, then $75 and then $85.00. In the advertising business, this is called BAIT AND SWITCH which is against the law. IF that water cooler man was the owner, and I can identify him, he heard the whole conversation and could have jumped in there then. I can't say for sure, but I am willing to bet that J&S is no longer owned by the original owners and this company does business in a very immoral way. 3 different prices in 2 days. MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU MOVE ON AND FIND ANOTHER MORE HONORABLE, TRUSTWORTHY CLEANING SERVICE. If you decide to take your chances and go with J%S, GET THE QUOTE IN WRITING SIGNED AND DATED. MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS COMPANY IS THAT THEY QUOTE ONE PRICE AND THEN RAISE IT. I suggest you stay clear of them. read more

J&S Steamway has done a great job cleaning my carpets for many years...wall to wall carpeting and area rugs. But now I'm a customer for life! A couple of months ago I bought a beautiful (expensive) beige linen armchair. Last week I was horrified to see a greasy spot smack in the middle of the seat. I was afraid to clean it myself so I took it into J&S to make arrangements for them to clean the chair. The office staff wasn't quite sure how to handle it so they had Troy (owner) come out to talk to me. He looked at the spot and ducked into the backroom to do his magic. When he came back out he said the cushion need to stay in the hospital overnight. But a couple of minutes later another employee came out of the back room with a big smile on his face. He had been able to remove the spot out and even better, seemed genuinely happy that he was able to. I love it when people do a wonderful job and are so clearly proud of what they do! I made arrangements to have J&S put a stain resistant treatment on the chair so I hope not to need upholstery cleaning service again. But I will definitely have them do my carpets again! read more

We had J & S over even though we had heard they were one of the more expensive carpet cleaning companies in town. When we found out the price to have them clean our 3 bedroom home it was a little higher than a couple other quotes we received, (within $50) but the level of service we got was far superior to any we have experienced before. Even though the price was higher it was straight forward with no hidden fees or possible increases once work began. The technician was uniformed, professional, and friendly. The job took almost exactly as long to complete as he said it would and the carpet was dry even faster than what he told me to expect. The price was a little higher than i have paid in the past, but, it was worth every penny and i highly reccommend J & S Steamway! read more

Amazing!! Arrived on time, and very polite. Explained very well all the steps being taken to ensure my carpets were going to be looking as close to new as possible. Mentioned the wear from continuous walking may leave some discolor but the rest was good. Did not disappoint at all!! Was also the first time I've seen a carpet cleaner use plasticc guards on my corners... awesome! They were organized and very thorough when cleaning. My good friends who have a big family including small children, big house and dogs, had their carpets and upholstery done by J&S Steamway. I was in the house before and after and it looked unbelievable. They took their time to make sure it was done right. The've been around a long time in Anchorage so everyone pretty much knows about J&S. At the end of my lease my carpets were trashed by my two cats, large dog and two young boys. I was certain I was not getting my deposit back but decided to take a chance and call J & S Steamway to come out and clean my carpets. I was shocked! All the spots and stains came right out, the carpets look practically new and I got my full deposit back! The technician was super friendly and the price was totally worth the service I received. Recently had a turnover in my furnished condo I was renting out, I moving back in to downsize. J & S Inc came cleaned the upholstery and took care of my area rugs. And their cleaning division Simple cleaned it spotless so I felt like it was all fresh and new. Thanks! read more

The customer service and quality is incredible. They don't act like they are "only carpet cleaners". With that said, they are more expensive than I was used to paying but won't use anyone else. read more
