I called the gang at Capital Junk and talked with Justin who got me all set up for an appointment to send 2 trucks and 2 men to cart it all away. Throughout the process Justin kept me informed and aware of when they were arriving and how long things would take. As we live in the country about an hour drive from Ottawa there was an additional $100 fee per load, which seemed fair given the 2 hour round trip just to get here and back. Paul and Coran arrived at the specified timing and worked like beavers to sort and haul. Despite the fact that it was snowing hard they worked steady and tirelessly. It took them 2 days and 4 truck loads but the results were amazing. Thoughtful, pleasant and respectful, these 2 young men were a credit to their employer and I really enjoyed their wit and conversation which they never used to slack off....they just kept working away through it all. The cost seemed reasonable given the tipping fees, gas and time involved and it was all done swiftly and efficiently. Highly recommend.

What I don't like is that every time I've gone, the payout price is ALWAYS lower than advertised. The excuse of 'fluctuating market prices' can be true, but amazingly always in their favour. The 'mixed metal' rates are over-compensated in their favour - you could hand them something that's clearly 99% gold (for an extreme example), but if it has so much as a tiny metal screw in it, the whole thing becomes about the same worth as all-metal. Their measured weights are also light. For bulk steel, the printout weight was actually lower than the scale readout (now that's brazen!) And for a specific metal type (ex. purely alum cans), I pre-weighed my load (in a large cardboard box) with 2 separate (and accurate) digital scales (both were the same) - CFT's weighed amount was about 4 kilos light, and it's not like the box they were in weighed anywhere close to that! They skim just low enough to make it look like some kind of margin of error. It's dirty and they need to be legally called out on it!

We contacted a few businesses for quotes. Some got back to us quickly, but their prices were high and those with advertised lower prices either never got back to us, said they didn't deal with gas appliances, or only got back to us after we had already booked with Take It Away. Everything was quick and smooth with Take It Away. I emailed Clarence for a quote and he got back to me within minutes. Price was lower than the other businesses who got back to me. We had all the details worked out and appointment booked within the hour. He was available the next day, but we preferred to wait until the weekend. On the scheduled day Clarence and his wife Debbie arrived and were very punctual. At first I was a bit worried because Debbie looked small, but that lady is strong, let me tell you. She and Clarence carried our gas range down a bunch of steps and out to their truck. I was very impressed, lol. The snowblower was easy peasy since it was already in the garage. We paid them and they went on their way. Everyone was all smiles, them and us. They list their prices on their website, so the minimum price is $79 and the price increases as you add more items. It depends on how much space your stuff takes up. So it's $149 if your stuff fills 1/8 of the truck, up to $599 if it fills their entire 1,088 cu/ft truck. I liked the transparency. When I made an appointment I detailed the items to be removed from my lower level, including a…read morestacked washer and dryer. The young and seemingly inexperienced men were late, then they went downstairs where I had taken the items out and were therefore easily accessible. Studying the stacked washer/dryer, they proceeded to make a phone call. Then they told me, although with apologies, they couldn't take it, because they didn't have any straps or tools with them???? What???? I told them I had straps and plenty of tools and could assist them if necessary. They proceeded to tell me that their manager told them not to bother...someone could get hurt or the walls could get damaged. Bottom line, they simply didn't want to do the job and it's obvious these guys were inexperienced. I realize it's hard to get good help since COVID but come on! I had to move the items back out of the way until I could have them removed. I booked "Junk Ninjas" the next day. They were $65 cheaper and had no problem removing all the items carefully without hesitation.
