I found our forever groomer (for while we're here in VA). The lady was so kind and understanding. She took special care of my dog's ear because my dog gets frequent ear infections. She also called to let me know how scared our little one was of having her nails clipped and had me help so that it would comfort my dog. She is gentle, efficient, and her price is amazing. Highly recommend. Luckily I'm Korean so language barrier wasn't an issue, but her husband answered the phone in English when I was booking my appointment. Our dog came back home and usually after a haircut she's super avoidant, but she was bouncing around the house as if nothing happened. Will be returning! read more

My dog has been going here since she was a puppy for the last 3 years. We had a couple of price changes that have gone up over the years which is to be expected, but all of a sudden they wanted to charge 30% more with less service. I think they probably just didn't want to groom her anymore because she can get squirmish with her feet, but after I finally agreed they could do everything else but her feet, they said it'll be $30 more. $30 more for less service? That didn't make sense. Then they said it'll be better for her to try a different groomer who would be better to do everything even after I was willing to pay the previous price minus her nails since she needed to be groomed. I was disappointed especially with the timing since she was due for grooming. Everything else seemed fine in previous grooming appts. read more

One of my puppies is extremely nervous and does not like any type of grooming experience but the groomer here is very professional and knows how to handle her! Nice lady. Love the bows. However, I have a couple problems. 1. My communications were mostly with a child who appeared to be approximately 10 years old and was able to provide no directions when I got a little turned around driving there. 2. My a MaltiPoo pup is a rescue who looked absolutely straggly. I asked for her to simply be trimmed evenly (to get rid of straggly). I come back and my baby has a summer haircut. It is 20 degrees and she only weighs 6 pounds. All of her facial hair is removed. You can't tell that she's a Maltipoo. I guess now that I go back and look at the pics, almost every dog has the same haircut. Her price was good but the cut was absolutely not what I asked for. But then who knows what the 10 yr old translated to her mother about what I wanted... I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Been to many grooming salons as well as big named places, but J-dog grooming is far the best and most safe place I been to. My dog gets scared every time she goes in for grooming but with their love and care, she was very good during the grooming and did not show any emotions of frighten after (which she normally does). Also, one major thing I was very happy about was that she handles the dog in a private session setting, which means my dog did not have to be locked up and wait her turn like other grooming places would. The place is set in the basement of their home, but all the major professional equipments are installed for the job, as well as cleanness of the place is excellent. They are very professional with care and love, the way they would with their own. If you are looking for clean, polite, professional and loving groomer.... Just relocated to the Woodbridge area from California and struggled to find a good groomer after coming from a small town and knowing the boys groomer well. Tried another place who didn't do such a great job and hurt one of the boys feet. Well... I found her! I have two Maltese that we keep "high and tight" and not only did I pick them up and they looked fabulous, they were so happy! They were excited as always but gave her lots of love before leaving which is not normal for them. Usually you can tell they are just like "thank goodness your here mom". Price is same as most in the area and there was a small language barrier but nothing that was to difficult to deal with. Well worth it for great looking HAPPY boys! We have found our grooming home! Very happy with the result! My large dog went in for a bath and de-shedding, and came out about 1.5 hours later happy, shiny, and fluffy (he even had a cute bandana on!). My husband and I just moved to lake ridge from Philadelphia and we're looking for groomers for our beloved shih poo Fiona. I found j dog grooming through Yelp. I was little skeptical since it was at someone's house but the reviews looked good and it was not even half a mile from my house. When I arrived there I was pleasantly surprised. She works out of her basement and it's really clean and completely separate. She only takes one dog at a time which is also a plus. When I came back to pick up Fiona about 2 hours later I was happy to see that she was running around and not stuck in a cage and she looked great! We had an express appointment at PetSmart set but they called the day of to tell us that even though we had an appointment, they couldn't do it because they don't do express appointments on weekends (never mind that it was a Friday). I found J-Dog groomers here on Yelp and they were perfect because our dog doesn't do well in a crate. They do one dog at a time and it's appointment only. It took two hours and their price is very reasonable. They did a much better job than PetSmart, I feel like they treated her better, and the price was better! This was a rather unexpected experience from start to finish, but the overall outcome was good. First, I thought the address was wrong because it lead me to a residential neighborhood. Nope, this business is at someone's house. I was greeted by a little girl, maybe 10 years old, and lead around the back of the house. They have a little grooming studio set up back there with the usual equipment you'd expect to see. Now, I'm not one to balk at a language barrier, I'm from a very diverse part of the country and I'm quite used to it. However, we didn't get far at all before the groomer had to call relatives to translate to her my desires for my dog's haircut. She said she'd call me when she was finished, but I was a little uneasy, so I stayed close by. It took about 2 hours, a little more than expected, but not terrible. Overall, the haircut is very well done, not really what I wanted it to look like, but it would have been impossible to communicate my exact wishes. The only thing that really troubled me is that she actually cut off my dog's whiskers. I've never seen this done before, let alone without asking. I googled it and it can be disorienting to the dog and take up to 15 weeks to grow back. I don't like the way it feels on my face when she kisses me. :/ In all, the family was very friendly, the haircut looks good, and the price is very reasonable. read more

I have been taking my dog, Jake, to J-Dog Grooming for 4 years. He is a mini poodle mix so his hair grows fast. He is usually very fluffy when I drop him off, but when I pick him up he is a perfectly groomed boy (and he smells so good too). What I really like about J Dog is the individual care and attention he receives. Before I found J Dog, I took Jake to the local pet store groomers. He would shake walking in the door and be there for half the day. Not J-Dog! Jake jumps out of the car when we arrive and is there for 2 hours or less. I can't say enough about the wonderful service that Jake gets every time he gets groomed. I know when he is at J-Dog, he is in good hands. read more

I'm impressed with the personal touch our pets receive at J-Dog. We've brought our two Shiba Inus here several times and Eric and his wife never fail to get them looking their very best. We especially enjoy the colorful bandanas they come home wearing. Shibas can be a tough breed to work with since they have a mind of their own but at J-Dog they take the time to make a connection and develop more of a relationship with our pets which calms them down and makes it a great experience. I feel extremely comfortable leaving my dog with her, my dog is never scared when I go pick him up. He's happy and excited, she doesn't cage him up like other places do. The groomer here does a great job! When you first go, it's a little strange because it's in a neighborhood, and you go around through the gate to the back, so it feels like you're sneaking into someone's back yard. But the groomer does an excellent job and is very caring with my two Japanese Chins. Her daughter helps a bit with English interpretation, but between the two of them I have never had a problem communicating. The prices are extremely reasonable, and my dogs leave relaxed, with cute hair cuts, and smelling SO good. They are usually in and out in 2 hours, and I love that I'm not dropping them off at a big groomer with lots of barking dogs in cages. Usually, when I pick them up, my dog is curled up in the little girl's lap and seems very relaxed. read more

Never having to care for something of my own before, I was quite skeptical at first. But after having a bad experience with one of the larger groomers, I decided it was time to try something new. When I got there, I saw the usual equipments and the place looked extremely clean. The dog before us was roaming around freely after its appointment which made me feel comfortable because I never liked the idea of having the dogs caged up while they waited and Tam-Tam hates being in a cage. I told the owner what I wanted and she delivered the best. Tam-Tam has never looked better and just from the look on her face, I knew she had a great time. We will definitely be going back and couldn't recommend this place more. read more
