We have been going to Lucky Dog Grooming as I was looking for a groomer that is more comfortable for our dog who used to feel really stressed after coming his appointment with his previous groomer. Lucky Dog practices cageless grooming which I thought was interesting and quite kind to pets. Setting appointments is easy - I either call or text for appointments and they respond almost right away. The prices are reasonable too and they do a really good job grooming our dogs. Our dogs always look happy and relaxed after their appointments which says a lot about this business. I called this place to schedule a basic bath and nail trim for my two dogs -- nothing complicated. I was a professional dog groomer for 8 years, so I know exactly how this industry works. I usually groom my dogs myself, but I've been sick and unable to do it lately. I was hoping to find someone reliable to start handling their baths on a regular basis. I have back issues, which is why I stopped professionally grooming to begin with. The first thing they asked was if I'd been there before. I said no, I would be a new customer. Then they immediately asked what breed my dogs were. I told them the truth: they're purebred English Staffordshire Bull Terriers. The response? "Oh, you could've just said pit bulls -- it's okay." First of all, no -- they are not pit bulls. They are English Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Pitbulls and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not the same breed. Right after that, I was told, "Well, we're not taking new clients anyway." Interesting. Because if that were true, wouldn't you have said that the moment I said I was a new customer? It's obvious what really happened -- you heard the breed and assumed they were pitbulls. This is classic breed discrimination. You judged my dogs without knowing anything about them. The truth is, they're two of the sweetest, most well-behaved, trained dogs you could ever meet. They've been getting groomed since they were tiny puppies and love being pampered. But because of your prejudice, you turned away two perfect clients. Call it what it is: dog racism and ignorance. If you're going to work in this field, at least educate yourself on breeds. read more

My dogs ears were not plucked or cleaned. When I called them and asked if it was a special service or extra charge they said it was included but didn't do it because he was being mouthy. My question is, do they work with dogs, he is a 10 month old, 22 lb mini puppy? They sent him home like that and didn't even tell me. Certain dogs ears must be clean or they will get infections and bacteria and we are going to the beach for vacation. Can you just imagine hair, ear wax, and sand, it would be awful. Poor grooming!!! I was so disappointed, I was hoping to find a groomer you could trust. Not the case here. The next day, he was digging at his anal glands, so I made a vet appointment to check his glands and pluck his ears, amazingly the vet did it without issues. I also realized that he did not smell like their deodorized dog shampoo (or any soap smell) as he did on the other two visits. I am just so disappointed. I wanted to believe the first two times, where he was nicked everyone was just getting adjusted to each other, (which they did not tell me about either, I had to find) apparently not the case. Pet owners beware of this place. If you do go there inspect your pet when you get home, and don't be surprised at what you get. read more

Hmmmm. Originally 2 stars for the grooming, until they figured out what I wanted my pup to look like, and not what Lucky Dog thought he should look like. After that, four stars for the grooming. Scheduling, one star. Seriously, it's next to impossible to schedule 4 or 6 week intervals for appointments, and if you do make an appointment, they might not put it on the books. Cost, 3 stars. Lucky Dog is about $20 more expensive than our last groomer (who retired, sadly), but they probably have more overhead. Like other peoples comments here, their major weak link is in scheduling. Your dog needs grooming. You made the appointment 6 weeks ago. You can't get another appointment for 6 weeks. My dog is hot and miserable. I need to find another groomer. read more

Horrible customer service! Despite my dog regularly going there, they never answered the phone for appointments, so I always had to text. Even then, I could only book far-out appointments. During my last visit, there was a misunderstanding via text, and they accused me of missing my appointment the previous week. When I showed them the text proving otherwise, the receptionist was visibly irritated and had someone else verify it. Eventually, they begrudgingly agreed to take my dog. Just 10 minutes later, they called to say I hadn't confirmed my appointment, demanding I return immediately to pick up my dog without grooming her. I returned frustrated; instead of an apology or discussion, they were rude and unapologetic. I should have dropped them a long time ago when my dog got an ear infection after a previous visit, and when the receptionist made inappropriate remarks about my dog. Glad to say I removed my dog from their client list. Good riddance. read more

I too was recommended to Lucky Dog, but my 1st and 2nd attempt to schedule an appointment were not successful. The only way I could schedule appointment was through email (apparently). I requested the appointment and received a reply with "hi, thank you for choosing lucky dog. What day would you like to schedule for?" I replied by asking if Thursday was available, then a reply with a "we are booked until 04/18. May 2nd I reached out again and requested an upcoming Thursday and the response was "no, we don't" with no further suggestions. When I first called to make an appointment, the owner herself asked me "DID YOU PUT YOUR DOG ON DRUGGS" and kept rushing the whole conversation. I responded to her that last time my dog was groom by them, he was a 10 month puppy. You can't have high expectations for puppies. So of course he was going to be antsy and I also told her he is not on drugs and yes he is calm. This was 2 1/2 years ago. Dropping off my dog, she kept mentioning how difficult he was to be groomed in the past. Her negative comment she repeatedly said about my dog, made me very uneasy and super uncomfortable of leaving my dog there. I kept confirming to her, yes he is calm and of voice just sounded very annoyed. Picking up my dog, was a complete horrible experience. As she was trying to bring me my dog, she YELLED at another dog trying to come out with him "no, get back" and then she got frustrated and in a very loud tone she said "can someone come get this dog". I'm sure the owner of the other dog, would not appreciate the way she was speaking to her dog. After paying, I spoke to the owner. I was giving her my feedback, how the customer service I am receiving was not what I expected. I thought her comment on my dog being on drug, could've been approached and said differently. FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW those who don't know, she said when a dog is difficult to work with, they note it down and also ask to be SEDATE them. I have never heard of such thing at a regular groomers. I also wanted to take bring my other dog who's not compilar with being groomed but I'm glad I didn't. And the way she was being with me made me very uncomfortable to bring my other dog. And she RUDELY interrupted me, these are her exact words "well we see you next time thank you bye" I responded to her, I am a customer and I'm just trying to give you my feedback on how my experience was. And she rudely and unprofessionally told me "you can go, bye" IN FRONT of another customer. I found her overall very unprofessional, I would assume as an owner your customer feedback is extremely important to you. I will not be returning to this place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Not good. That's all i can say. Promised my wife I wouldn't rip them too bad- but suffice it to say I wouldn't send a dog I hated there... bad! Really bad.reallly, really bad. My dogs paws were bleeding when I picked them up. The place was filthy. The guy took my bleeding and put athletic powder on and then told me how it was " cute" when one of my dogs " protected" the other one when other dogs were going after her. Going after her? She was 8 months old and not spayed. The whole plan was to NOT let her be with " other" dogs. I'm still so upset about this nightmare place. My dogs who used to have no issues with groomers now cry and experience huge anxiety when we take them out. We were a little nervous getting our Labradoodle's first grooming done at a groomer we hadn't used before. The first visit went very well. Linda was great and did minor touch ups and nail trimming. A few weeks later we went in for a full grooming and they did an outstanding job. We could not be happier with the results. Our pup is only 9 months old, but weighs 55 lbs and loves to play. I called trying to make an appointment for my golden retriever dog. The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude and short with me don't know if they are having a bad day definitely seem like they were. She suggested a date and time for the appointment and I had said it wouldn't work out for me and she said well everyone's booked up this time of year so good luck trying to find an appointment. She didn't even suggest any other appointment times or anything else. I took my dog here for a nail trim the other day. While the price was reasonable, I will never come back. I checked my dog in and stepped out for a minute or so because the person at the front said she would take about five minutes for a nail trim. I came back in and I see that she has my dog backed up against the wall (next to a crate with a dog in it) and she's trying to file my dog's nails while holding her up against the wall with a restraining stick. She even mentioned that my dog bit her and she had to put a muzzle on her - which was off when I came back in not even two minutes after I checked in. Now, my dog has never had a bad review at any of the groomers and daycares she's ever been to. She even got a fecal smear the other day at our vet with no issue. However, I'm sure the girl who did the trim got nipped. But wouldn't you be defensive if someone had you up against the wall with a stick to your neck? If I had known this was how they handle squirmy dogs, I would've just kept doing this myself at home. I'll have to corner her to do her nails but at least I'll be saving $15 and not terrifying the hell out of my dog. read more

I read the reviews on Yelp and Angie's List and felt as comfortable as possible about handing off one of my foster dogs... who is skittish and not a fan of being bathed or groomed. It was easy to make an appointment: one email and a subsequent reminder to bring the shot records. Got a call an hour and half after the appointment saying that all went well and that I could pick up the dog. Fast, efficient and courteous! I received a rescue discount and they didn't try charging more despite the fact that the dog was heavily matted and very smelly. They all said goodbye to Sami and were so happy that he was off to his forever home in a few days. Sami looked great and was clearly relaxed and happy when I picked him up. I am so happy I was referred to Lucky Dog last year by a friend! I have 2 standard poodles who need to be groomed every 6-8 weeks. They are easy to groom (patient dogs) and like going to Lucky Dog. My dogs always come out completely perfect! Today I was 45 minutes late to pick up my dogs and I was panicking. I was caught in a springtime thunderstorm on I-66 going toward Manassas. The staff were friendly and said it was no problem that I was late (as I kept apologizing). I have tried various other groomers in the northern Virginia area and got fed up with the unprofessional groomers and their staff. Lucky Dog is the most unprofessional grooming business I have yet to use after owning 5 dogs and trying multiple different groomers. Linda scheduled my dog for an appointment and called the night before to say my dog was not welcome after plans were made to make sure he would be picked up when he was done. My dog has anxiety of being created and I understand his barking can be excessive but plans were made to make sure he would be picked up right away and she knew that. My business will be going somewhere where my dog isn't treated any less due to his anxiety. The way in which Linda has interacted with us during our time at lucky dog is another reason we will no longer be using the business. Linda and her wonderful staff took care of my sweet Skippy for 12 years. Skippy knew what "Ms. Linda" meant and would be so excited to go see her! She was even able to represent Lucky Dog in a few of the Manassas Christmas Parades. We said goodbye to our sweet girl in May and we were able to stop by so Skippy could say goodbye to one of her favorite people. The love Linda had for her was so evident. They always made my girl look so pretty and smell so good! I now take my cats to them for nail trims and they do a wonderful job. I have a blind 13-year old and a 3-year old with hulk strength and they handled both of them so well and we were in and out within 10 minutes. I could not in good faith recommend these people to anyone. My Vet recommneded them to me and we took my 13 yr old Pomperian to them. He has had a skin thing going on for some time and we had not been able to groom him. We told them all of this and said we wanted to keep his hair long but they did ask if they could save his belly because it was matted. We said yes but not too much because of him just getting over the skin thing and that winter was coming. When my daughter went to pick him up they had shaved him all over. They then gave my daughter a scolding and and said he was a terrible dog and almost had a seizure when they groomed him. Our previous groomer always said he was great they treated him so well and I'm very sorry I tried Lucky Dog. I only changed because the old groomer because I didn't like the associated Vet attached to groomers. I have advised my new Vet never to recommend them to anyone again. He was cold and had many sores on him since they shaved him too close. Unfortunately my poor puppy passed away this past Sunday with sores and no beautiful coat of fur which he had had for 13 years. We recently brought in our little dog. She's a friendly dog who loves to play but just hates getting groomed. For the longest time we bathed, brushed, and trimmed her at home... but then we had a baby. The first few months of raising a baby have been pure survival mode. My husband and I hardly find the time to groom ourselves let alone the dog. Sorry pup. Anyway, Lucky Dog did an amazing job. We know she gets very feisty when it comes to getting groomed, yet they were able to handle her! We thought for sure they were going to call us to say she was too difficult to groom and we had to come pick her up. Nope! They did call, but it was only to ask if it was okay to trim her a little shorter than originally planned to get rid of her matting. Every knot is gone, her nails have been trimmed, she no longer smells like a bag of Fritos. It's amazing. Worth every penny! Thank you lucky dog. read more

Just an update to my previous review. I took Ollie back in early January for another grooming session, and it was just as fantastic as before. I was correct in saying that they allow the dogs to roam around the shop (which I think reduces stress), but there are also large crates in case a dog does not want to socialize (or cannot). Ollie's cut was $95 (including tip) this time, and he looks quite handsome! His appointment took 3 hours, which is very quick compared to other groomers. We're very pleased to have found "our" groomer here in Manassas! read more

We have 2 Maltese and decided to give Lucky Dog a try. They looked great but a few days later while walking them, my female refused to walk any further. We had to carry her home. At the vet the next day my husband noticed blood on his shirt and pants. The vet also noticed and upon inspection of her feet it was discovered that she had burns on all four feet. Lucky Dog was not lucky for my little Shiloh. They had allowed the Clippers to get hot and burned the pads of her feet. We tried to contact them for a resolution but they would not return our calls. Messages were left but we're not returned. I wouldn't recommend this groomer if they were the last on earth. read more

I've used them a couple times, I really like the cageless grooming, and do does my dog. We had a bad experience at Petsmart with one of their groomers who is no longer there, but they made my dog afraid of groomers. They are more pricey than Petsmart. I just wish every time I called they would be able to take us. And pricing seems inconsistent. We ended up taking our two dogs to Lucky Dog Grooming and our 2 lil pooches now have a groomer for life! The price was really good for a bath, nails, expression, ears and teeth and shave. The owner was really nice and called us to verify that we didn't want their tails trimmed as well. She sent me a text to confirm the appointment which was awesome as well. My husband said the place was really nice and the owner was SUPER nice! She even pointed out that our older dog had a lump on her leg and suggested we have it looked at. Just picked up my dog from being groomed by Linda! He looks like a poodle that is 6 months old. He looks so good and he smells so good. The website being the way to schedule may make you think you are at risk getting an appointment but Mel is great about accommodating your needs. The place has 3 groomers and the windows were open on this pretty day. My dog is crated but the others do not want to be so it is nice for them. Paco looks so good that friends on Facebook comment what a great look and doo for Paco. Loved the experience. read more
