Last minute decision to stop at this location for an ice cream since we were in the area Was recommended by a friend from the Simsbury area as his exact words were. You have to try this great ice cream place down the street as they have fresh homemade ice cream along w their waffle cones. The batter of the waffle cones were very tasty. I have to say the staff that work here are so nice and helpful. They enjoy working and doing their job. It's a great example of awesome ice cream here. I especially enjoyed my 2 1/2 scoop black raspberry chip yogurt along with chocolate sprinkles which was recommended by the staff along with the fresh waffle cone. I was beaten by 10 points, and so we decided to go to their favorite ice cream shop located in Avon, J. Fosters. This is a cute little ice cream shop that makes their delicious treat from scratch. Everything is fresh and they also have pints and ice cream cookies, singles, and more you can purchase to take home. You can also purchase their products from your local Big Y Store in the area! We were craving ice cream and decided to check this place out. I read some good reviews but missed the tip to try out their Graham Central Station, oh well, next time! I had the Heath bar crunch on a cone and it was delicious. Three scoops that were nicley plopped together on the cone. The best part is getting to the cone in my opinion. There is a picnic table outside for those wamer days; I'm sure they will need more of them. There were plenty of seating inside. The parking lot was pretty packed but we found a couple of spots open. The service was quick and friendly. A great place for kids too, my toddler loved his scoop of blue ice cream. Overall, a decent spot to get that sweetheart tooth satisfied. read more

I LOVE THIS ICE CREAM!!!!!!! I felt obligated to write this now, as they're closed for the season but were taking orders for Valentine's Day by email, and I ordered 3 quarts and a pint and picked them up two days ago. Today is Valentine's Day so perhaps we will try the third new flavor we ordered tonight, but I'm sharing the love today because the Passion Fruit Sorbet and Raspberry Chocolate Truffle that we tried the last two nights blew us away! When I stopped in to pickup the ice cream Sunday, I was told they were busy in back making ice cream. I mean can you get any fresher? I also ordered a quart of the Graham Central Station because I already know that's a favorite of mine! I mean heck, I get it for dessert every time I go to Salute in Hartford and the last time I wanted it at Scoops and Sprinkles in Rocky Hill someone finished it right in front of me when I was there. It's a popular flavor and hot seller, because it's amazing and perfect and what dreams are made of (if you like ice cream anyway)! The last new flavor we have yet to try, but I'm super excited about, is Red Velvet. If it's awful I'll come edit this and let you know, however I'd bet my car that's not going to happen because I don't think they can make anything awful! The one other time I did stop in for just a cup the service was good and the restaurant and restroom were clean. I'd literally be in trouble if this place were down the street from me, well I guess I'd walk there to burn a few calories while going to indulge, but unfortunately isn't nowhere near walking distance for me. I did find the 3 quarts and a pint of sorbet to be on the pricey side, but what isn't nowadays? And, for perfection? Sometimes you just have to splurge! Trust me, my fiancé and I are glad I did! The flavors burst in your mouth and the ice cream is rich, so I'll be controlling the portions so we can make it last for a week or two, LOL! It was one of the first warm days of this year so we had to celebrate with ice cream. Others had the same thought as us so there was a little bit of a wait. The service was fast and friendly. There's indoor seating and an outdoor area which I assume would also have seating in the summer. We tried their chocolate, coconut, and graham central station flavors. The chocolate and coconut were good, but not quite as rich and flavorful as I like. The Graham Central Station however was amazing!! I am looking forward to trying other flavors next time! read more

By far one of the best ice cream shops around. It is a high quality ice cream and the flavors are incredible. I also like that they offer gelato, yogurt and sugar free options. I am impressed. This may be the best ice cream place in Hartford. As other Yelpers mentioned, Graham Central was the absolute best flavor here. Fig which was a gelato, and made with almond milk, was amazing. It was a flavor which I never had before. Cashew caramel flavor here is the best cashew caramel I ever had. A very solid choice. Decent variety of ice cream plus some gelatos and sorbets, Very nice dining room to sit and relax, or to host a kiddie birthday party and play "Pin the cherry on the sundae". Young, hard-working, but very pleasant servers. We ordered two "small" sugar cones- a mint chocolate chunk gelato and a Coconut Mounds. The gelato was very good but had a pretty high mint quotient in it- any more and it would have been too much. My wife thought the Mounds wasn't very coconutty, but the sample I tried seemed pretty well flavored, so maybe the ice cream wasn't mixed uniformly? Two good sized small cones cost around $8 - definitely not cheap. But the quality, nice surroundings, and pleasant staff were all a plus. read more

I could not simply drive by J Foster's Ice Cream on Saturday without stopping and getting a 2 scoop cone, because that just was not an option. J Foster's was one of my favourite ice cream parlours in Connecticut before I moved to Buffalo and I could not of been more excited to come back. I went on Saturday afternoon and the place was empty (which was great for me) and I got a scoop of cookie dough and a scoop of the cookie monster. The ice cream was absolutely delicious and tastes as home made is it could be. This location is definetly better than the Simsbury location. Parking is very limited, but seating space inside is not. But let's be real... you're coming to this place to eat the ice cream and not comment on the availability of parking or seating. J Fosters delivers. Before I continue to gush about the icecream shop, let me talk about what I ate here :) Flavors I loved: Maple walnut. And I don't even care for walnuts! Oh but the maple flavor was spot on. Slightly smoky, perfectly sweet. Black raspberry. Red Raspberry- both were perfectly tart and sweet. Coffee ( it might be called mocha) Cookie dough The waffle cone is also good. Nothing to rave about, but certainly above average. Portion sizes are huge, and since the icecream is so decadent, I would recommend starting with the kids size. I made an impromptu ice cream stop here over a month ago after driving past and remembering the high praise this place gets on Yelp. I'm so glad I stopped in! On a weekday afternoon, the place was empty, and I got to sample a few of the flavors, including the Cookie Monster and Graham Central Station. Both were stellar--the Cookie Monster was noticeably better than your typical cookies and cream ice cream, while the Graham Central Station was really rich and flavorful. Unfortunately there wasn't enough Graham Central Station left to fill a cup, and the next tub of it needed a while to thaw out, so I eventually decided on the Salted Caramel, which struck the perfect balance between sweet and salty. I noticed a few ice crystals but for the most part, it was smooth and dreamy. The only downside is that it's expensive, with a small setting you back ~$4. I was a little annoyed by the pricing, until I watched the server pile multiple scoops in my cup, filling it up as much as she could. That at least makes it tolerable. Like most ice cream stores, this place was pretty small, but they have a little outdoor deck with some tables and chairs, as well as a couple of picnic tables by the parking lot. Even though there was only one server working when I visited, she was efficient, friendly, and accommodating of my desire to sample way too many flavors. Unfortunately, I found that J Foster does not live up to its great reviews. The ice cream is nothing notable, with flavors that are available at most creameries. I tried several flavors, including salted caramel, black raspberry, coffee, and graham central station. The graham central station is decent, but again nothing notable as this flavor may be found at Mortensen's on the Berlin Turnpike. My friends and I got a coffee milkshake, a hot fudge sundae with cookie monster ice cream, a scoop of coffee ice cream, and a coconut mounds ice cream cone. Keep in mind: this is not a place for a milkshake. The coffee milkshake I got did not even taste like the coffee ice cream I sampled. It was extremely milky, and our server told me it was thick, giving me a spoon when she served me. It didn't even taste like coffee ice cream was in it, though I saw her scoop it. I took maybe three sips before going back to get a small scoop of the graham central station, a lesser consolation as I had wanted a thick, flavorful coffee milkshake. The building and its gallery where you can sit to eat your treats are in need of an update and are not very comfortable. There's a large awkward space that could be taken advantage of with more tables near where the ice cream is scooped. The staff was not pleasant at all. Our server was very rude and rushed our choices. It seemed as though it pained her to give samples to my friends and I when we wanted to try a few of the flavors since we had never visited before. She was impatient and had attitude. Disappointed, my friends and I will most certainly keep driving past this so-called unique, homemade ice cream place. read more

Really good Ice Cream but the service is terrible. Whenever we stop in, there is one girl taking orders and scooping ice cream and one or two girls just standing around cleaning but not helping.
