Seems it's been around for a long time, cute storefront spot in a little strip mall, but there's more than meets the eye. Dozens of selections of both hard and soft ice cream that was fresh and imaginative. Busy on this sunny day when we stopped in, but the mature staff handled it with ease and good humor. What a cute family owned ice cream shop. It's been around for 40 years! Owners were there when I walked in and I had the pleasure of meeting them! Very sweet . When I walked in , I had my friend and her nephew who are regulars there so they knew their orders already! As I was checking out the flavors , they were labeled GF which was great and made things so Much easier. Honestly, everything looked so good! Many choices of flavors to choose from! 26 flavors!! I was heading home from Lake Compounce and was craving some ice cream! This place has been on my list, so I decided to stop in! What caught my attention is how many soft serve flavors they have! 24 flavors of soft serv drew me in! That's right TWENTY FOUR!! This isn't ur avg swirl of flavor joint, this is the real deal. They flavor infused my black raspberry, gave it a good mix and poof! outa the soft serv machine it came. Sooooo flippen DE-lish! Boyfriend got a WARM brownie sundae, and of the 25 hard ice cream flavors he chose pistachio. It was hands down best pistachio we've ever had. 1lg cone, 1 two scoop sundae was 9-bucks. Great local ice cream shop that serves Hershey brand ice cream. Dunphy's is a little hole in the wall ice cream parlor located inside a mint green strip mall on Stafford Ave (near Saint Gregory's church). For neighborhood locals, this is a staple, yet for some reason it's not unanimously known throughout town. It's like a Northeast section treat. The place is family run, so expect the same faces season after season. Unlike some ice cream establishments, Dunphy's is in business for an extended season- well into the fall months. Don't let the terribly small, dated, and dingy set up fool you because this place is a treasure. They don't really do anything special from other places, but Dunphy's is special if you're looking for a cold treat that's not from a big chain place. They also do a lot of fundraising for the local community, too. So, if you're ever near that end of town, take a stop by Dunphy's. I recommend the cherry vanilla in a milkshake form. Dunphy's Ice Cream Parlor is an excellent neighborhood ice cream joint. They have a good variety of ice cream flavors and boast 24 soft serve flavors. I ordered their Muddy Sneakers flavor in a bowl and my gal pal got cotton candy ice cream with marshmallow topping. Both were tasty! The only downside is a strong smell of cleaning agent, but better clean than sorry, right? Also, some Yelpers noted that they don't accept credit/debit card, but they did when I went and even had a sign with the cards they accept on the door. Overall, great local find. read more

The prices were VERY reasonable, service was excellent. There are a few chain ice cream shops in the area, but having been to Dunphy's, I don't see any point in going back to the chains - the quality is the same here, and the price is about half of what we usually pay elsewhere. The decor is retro, in a good way - looks like an old-fashioned soda fountain. We will be back many times. We found this place about a year ago and I was really impressed. Ice cream isn't my desert of choice, but my husband and son love ice cream. I had the banana pudding ice cream and it was amazing. Amazing. I don't know how they make it, but it taste just like banana pudding with 'Nilla wafers. The chocolate ice cream is also delicious. It has that rich chocolate taste with a tiny bit of chocolate bitterness that makes it taste a bit more complex. The prices are great and they have kid sized cones which are perfect for smaller appetites. We've tried several local ice cream places in the area and Dunphy's is by far my favorite. I ordered an ice cream cake for my sons 5th birthday (had a lot of family in from out of state) and EVERYONE said it was by far the best ice cream cake they've ever had. I went to a Birthday Party for my 5 year old niece today, and after everyone left I offered to take the whole family out to Carvel's for ice cream. My brother told me that I should try Dunphy's, and I promptly told him that I liked soft serve ice cream that is really ice cream not the ice milk at other places. He told me that the soft serve was real ice cream w/a higher butterfat content than Carvel's. I looked at him doubtfully, but I agreed to give it a try. My nephew had a black raspberry cone (hard ice cream), my brother's wife had a dish of chocolate chip, and my brother, niece and I all had soft serve chocolate. It was rich, creamy and delicious, and it surpassed Carvel's my previous favorite ice cream parlor. Not only that, but the total bill for all that ice cream was $11.80; at Carvel's it would have been close to $20. It doesn't have the sandwiches and cakes that Carvel has, but if you want good creamy ice cream both hard and soft, Dunphy's is the place. It is definitely worth a trip to Bristol. I will definitely go back. I still like Carvel's, but in Bristol you can't beat Dunphy's Ice Cream Parlor. read more
