Bear Lake Utah Chevron Shakes. My family spent a full day at Bear Lake. Visiting with family…read more BBQing. Playing frisbee. Kayaking ... LOTS of kayaking! As we prepared for the drive back to Mendon my wife's cousin recommended stopping at the "Chevron Station" just east of the town of Bear Lake as you enter the quaint hamlet. He said their hand-scooped fresh fruit shakes are incredible. Maybe. As we exited Bear Lake the Chevron station is truly the LAST business on the left (or the first if you're just coming into town). Shake (pun intended) your franchise/national chain notions and ideas of shakes. NO soft-serve here. Hand-scooped ice cream, vanilla of course, with the flavor of your choice added. Fruits are fresh local grow, malt (!) is available on request. One size only, sir. We ordered a chocolate malt (I could not resist the memories of my youth in the '50s when every shake was hand-scooped), a raspberry shake, and a strawberry shake. Thank goodness we also bought a couple bottles of water. These ice cold creamy milk/egg/sugar/vanilla/flavors-added concoctions were to die for. Certainly the best I have enjoyed since Farrell's Old Fashioned crashed following a short revival. If you are in Bear Lake, DO visit the "Shake Place inside the Chevron Station". Besides the shakes, they also offered quick lunches that looked tasty though we were just "shaking" it down the mountain!

They ended up giving us our shakes and no one else was behind us. While we were waiting for our shakes a couple walked in and they ended up giving them shakes. No questions asked. It was super weird and the shakes were not super great. You could taste the crunchiness on the raspberries like they were kind of icy. L

Service isn't great, they seem put out to have to help you. There were people waiting by the little…read moresnack shack in the back corner with little acknowledgement from the staff working there. I don't even know why they waited. Maybe their hot dogs are worth the wait...doubt it! Prices are so expensive for such a small town; I feel like they take advantage of the fact it's a bit of a drive in either direction to the next little shop. I will say they have some tasty unique jams and jelly's which is fun!

To whoever has to stop in Afton, WY, DO NOT USE SINCLAIR! I was on a road trip with my family, and…read morewe made the mistake of stopping here to use the restroom and buy some snacks. The bathroom facilities were fine, other than the coat hanger was on the outside of the door where it is inaccessible for handbags. The real problem was with the food they had for sale. My younger cousin wanted to buy a pack of doughnuts; they looked kind of funny, so we checked the package for an expiration date. Not only was there no expiration date on the package, they had ripped it off of the box which held the doughnuts. Giving up on this package we tried a different one. Yet again no expiration date was on the package, I happened to look at the price tag which they had on the shelf, and finally found the expiration date. It read 7/22/14. It is currently 2015, these snacks were over a year old! While my cousin and I were puzzling over the missing expiration dates on the doughnuts, my Uncle was buying a package of Zingers, for his son. We all met up back at the car and I informed my Uncle about the year old snacks they had in stock. Before letting anybody eat the Zingers we checked them over. On a side note, no doubt you have heard the running joke that Twinkies will survive the apocalypse, being of the same brand, we were really surprised to find the Zinger had this large, moldy black spot on it. It looked really nasty. When my Uncle went inside to return the expired food, the manager and cashier on duty didn't seem all that surprised by the state of the food; and while my Uncle got a full refund, they made no move to remove the expired items from the shelf. At least by the time we left. The long and short of it is that at least the snack portion of the store had items long past their expiration date. Please do yourself a favor and use the bathroom elsewhere, and never buy food from Sinclair, at least the one in Afton, WY.
