I swap on the spare and am on my merry way when ten minutes later a second tire blows. OK, bigger problem - I'm in the middle of no-where with no cell reception and every place of business closed for the holiday. We see a farm house down the road and decide to seek some help. As luck would have it, the owner of Bear Lake Car Care lives here! Bob and his wife graciously invited us in their home (me and the wife, two fighting kids and our yet to be house-broken mutt). They entertained and took care of us for several hours in their home while we waited for two tires to be delivered from Salt Lake (my car has very unique tires). It was around 11pm before Bob could finally put the new tires on. He went out of his way, giving up his day off (and night) to make sure we were taken care of. On top of all that he tried to refuse payment. I can't imagine any better service and would highly recommend Bare Lake Car Care to everyone.

That said, having just made the first of many credit card payments for work I never would have had done given the full scope of what my vehicle needed, I feel compelled to prevent this from happening to anyone else. While the actual work done here seems fairly competent, the diagnostic process seems about as accurate as playing darts blindfolded. I brought my car in because it was creaking misfiring, and the check engine light was on. I told them that I believed my engine mounts were worn out and that I also needed a diagnoses for the misfiring. They told me that the cause for the misfiring was likely that my spark plugs and ignition coils were worn out, because that usually happens around 100k miles and my vehicle was past that. I agreed to have them replaced along with new engine mounts, to the tune of $2,600. I was told that after this my vehicle would be like a totally different car. The very next day, my car misfired again and the check engine light came back on. When I brought it back, they informed me that they don't have any way of knowing this fo sure, but I probably actually had a blown head gasket. I brought my car to a different mechanic shop who did a full and complete diagnostic from bumper to bumper and took photos of everything wrong with the car- from a blown head gasket to a leaking transmission to almost completely worn wheel bushings and a host of other problems totaling over $8,200 in addition to the $2,600 I had already paid at Red Rock Auto. Had I known this in the first place, I never would have paid $2,600 on a doomed old van that needed almost $11,000 in work done. I had to buy a new van and that $2,600 would have really helped with the down payment. I'm tempted to say that I feel duped, but I don't think there was any malice or fraud going on- just general laziness or incompetence in the diagnostic process that very negatively affected me.
