After reading all the 1comments ... they described my entire experience to a T. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They did accommodate my early arrival and saw me as soon as possible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]They massaged roughly 50% of the time over the sheet which caught me off guard. They kept walking in and out the room and talking to each other as well. Upon leaving they asked how much I wanted to tip and I handed her a cash tip. She kept asking if I could add more on my card. I told her I gave her a cash tip there is no need to add more on my card. She kept saying it was mandatory to tip more than $25 and that it is listed on the website. (Which I can't find) I was immediately shocked and repulsed by her demanding I tip her more money than I already did. Utah Division of Consumer Protection needs to look into this place immediately regarding their tipping practices. --------- HI ANDREW (manager) 1) your responses on your own company's page to client that support your business is horrendous. A true proud business owner would take a moment to apologize for the experience and take the honest feedback from your clients. 2) a liar ? She said " MANDATORY ". 8) just a suggestion : hire a front desk person so your staff is not constantly running out the room during a TIMED service.... if your staff is demanding a certain amount for a tip you can actually add automatic gratuity so your staff and clients aren't running into this issue. It was not a relaxing environment at all. My husband and I just had a couples massage. The most terrible experience. Absolutely awful. Great massage! Only reason for a 2 star review is because of a mandatory tip at the end. I paid up front and was planning on leaving a $20 tip at the end of the massage. When I go to hand them a $20 bill they said it wasn't enough for the service I got. They demanded $30 as a minimum. Tipping culture is absolute bs these days. Tips are discretionary based on the service you got not a set minimum amount. Will not be returning. Plenty of other strip mall massage places. Response to Andrew's comment: Sure did a 90 min massage! I walked in. Never looked at your website. Never asked for a deep tissue. Only question I was asked was how long. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Would have been nice to be told about the required 30% tip up front before we began.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Which still doesn't make sense... Based on the quality of massage I got and because tipping is a discretionary action, $20 which comes out to slightly under 20% was exactly what it deserved. I come to Salt Lake City each year for my business conference, and I was really looking forward to a massage. I booked here because it was close to my hotel and reasonably priced. The environment was clean; however the massage room wasn't what I was used to. The table was very basic and there was a TV with a game controller and couch in the room. But, I wasn't too concerned about this. The massage bed was adequate, but the room was definitely not relaxing. My biggest issue was that I don't think the woman that did the massage was trained in any way. She started by "leaning on me" on various parts of my body. She did this for at least 15 minutes. She then pulled the sheet down exposing me all the way past my bottom, which was a little uncomfortable. It would have been fine if she had asked or warned me, but she didn't. Then, she suddenly stopped and left the room for about 5-10 min to talk to a customer in the lobby. I could hear the customer talking about the business over charging him. She did finally come back in, and the massage continued to be odd. She just rubbed lotion on my back to my bottom. I'm used to massage therapist having a "rhythm." They work down through various muscles. She was, for lack of a better phrase, all over the place. The lotion she used felt very greasy, so I was glad she did take a hot towel and wipe it off. That part felt pretty good. I just went with it and figured it was what it was, and I just wouldn't come back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, when the "massage" was over and I came out. She proceeded to harass me for a tip. I was ready to go, and I was VERY uncomfortable. However, it got even more uncomfortable. I said I would give a $20 tip, and she said that I should leave at least $25. She was VERY pushy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't know if other therapist are better, but this one was pretty terrible. About 5 minutes later, a lady comes in and accused me of not having an appointment and therefore I could only be given half hour of service. Needless to say, that's the last time I will go to this place. I come to Salt Lake quite often and once in a while I get a massage. If I were you, I would avoid this place like the plague. I was not given any of the money back. The proprietor said that the remaining would be given as a TIP to the lady who gave me the massage. The difference is not worth the hassle of recovering what it was rightfully mine. I hope they enjoy this review. read more

While I initially had not the best massage experience at J Massage, I was thoroughly impressed by how quickly the business reached out to me to address my concerns. They provided me the option of getting a full reimbursement on the 30% tip I gave for my first massage since the service was not Deep Tissue as requested, or to come in for a complimentary 45min massage. I ended up going back in for the massage with the manager Darin, and it was everything I needed and more. He worked out some kinks in my shoulder and neck that I didn't even know I had. He was a very personable guy and was very apologetic that my first massage was not up to par. I appreciated how professional Darin was, he thoroughly explained which parts of my back/neck had tension, and how it was impacting my body overall. This experience has completely shifted how I feel about J Massage, and I highly recommend booking with them. If something is not to your satisfaction, you need to just communicate it to them and they are very receptive. I will definitely book with Darin at J Massage next time I visit SLC. read more

I have been going to J Massage a couple of times a month for some intense massage therapy. I really appreciate the professional approach at J Massage. I have seen a few different therapists over the years, all have been excellent. They listen and can focus on problem areas, and all have excellent technique. There are many services available, I usually just go with a Thai-style sports massage including walking on my back, which really helps get out the knots. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I booked online through their site with a messuse who had good reviews for a 90 minute Sports Massage at 5:00 PM. I received several confirmation texts and emails.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived the person at the desk had me pay the initial $120 and then told me there was no male messuse, only female.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to wait 20 minutes until they would see me. The massage tables are short if your over 6 ft. tall, and the only items on it were 2 thin flat sheets. I was told to take all my clothes off and get under the sheets. I did and waited for another 10 minutes before the actual messuse came in the room to start the massage. During that 10 minutes I could hear them running up and down the hallway. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once they came into my room they apologized and said it had been a busier day than expected.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She started the massage. The actual massage was strange. There was a lot of squeezing and rubbing but no particular focus on any area, it felt like I had paid someone to just come rub and press on my back and squeeze my arms for 90 minutes. The tables heights aren't adjustable which forced the short messuse to have to climb onto the table to reach different areas from certain angles. This was also strange and unexpected. During, the messuse added some oil to the massage, also typical, but then later wiped it all off with a large wet wash cloth which started warm but quickly became cold. The method and length to which I was wiped down felt closer to a baby receiving a sponge bath, being wiped in areas that were uncomfortable. (High up my thighs into the groin area and between my cheeks). Towards the end of the massage the messuse, without warning, pulled the sheet off of me and told me to roll over. I then experienced more squeezing and pressing on my muscles in no particular order, this ended in another wipe down of my body. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the massage was done I wanted to leave. I felt uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As I went to walk out the door and older person told me I needed to tip and asked me "how much of a tip I wanted to leave", I said "$20" and then they told me that for a 90 minute massage it would was $30. I just wanted to get out of there so I paid the 30 and left. I'm booking an appt. at a different spa, I won't be visiting again. Edit: The business manager has replied to this review. My partner had a great massage here on a Saturday morning. We did a tough hike two days before so our bodies definitely had some knots that needed to be worked out. The girls gave the right amount of pressure and left us feeling good. The massage was great but I wish that they massaged my feet as well, but the rest of my body felt good. I docked a star because at the end, they requested that I give them $20 each instead of the $15 each I originally gave them. I was really turned off by that and don't appreciate that sort of demand especially when tip is supposed to be optional. Management should pay their employees more and not have their employees rely so much on tips. read more

Red flag #1- Every comment with less than 4 stars that contains genuine, honest feedback will CLEARLY result with the business manager insulting you ( really arguing with even though u can't really respond) on yelp. It's almost like only positive feedback back is welcomed & they aren't looking for a review to get better at running a customer service based business. Red flag #2 - Asking the masseuse to massage a little softer because it's hurting you & she gets offended & starts speaking loudly to the other masseuse in the room. Relaxing?? Nope!! Red flag #3 - Walking into the ladies raising their voices at a potential customer who reluctantly returns an hour later because "we don't have appointments right now" but watching 2 walk in appointments accepted at 8pm at night. 4th & final red flag (although there were MANY more) - being told the tip is "usually 20% aka $20"... 20% of an $80 is $16!! Also, if the tip is mandatory, just make it part of the price... That's not gratuity! It's impossible to fully enjoy the massage when everyone is crowded around & forcing you to pay more for a tip when u already had the awkward experience of paying for services before. After spending the day ice fishing, I seriously needed a massage. Thankfully, this place is open on Sunday with a reasonable price. My boyfriend and I got a 90 minute couples massage for $100 each. Not too shabby. I was greeted with a warm welcome and some waters. Their lobby is really small and you may feel a little claustrophobic when there's more than 6 people in that tiny room. I'm grateful they were open on Sunday, however, I don't think the ladies who serviced us were trained to do massages. There's also a language barrier that probably didn't help either. I wanted more focus on my hand and back, which I've repeated, but they just did their own routine. The worse part was that I didn't get the full 90 minutes of massage time which was a little disappointing. I'm not sure if it's because the couple that was in before us went over their time and they had to play catch up, I don't know. When we walked out of the room, the girls immediately asked how we wanted to tip them. I felt obligated to give them something so I gave $20. They then insisted that we didn't pay for our massages. Again, must be another language barrier, but it was to the point I wanted my tip money back. It was awkward and very embarrassing leaving here. Ok so, me and my date came here because i had a migraine and was desperate for some relief. i feel bad giving 3 stars because the staff & everyone was very friendly and accommodating. But the massage itself was just horrible. My date said his massage wasn't great. The neck and shoulders he did say where decent. As far as mine goes she did ok with my legs but that's it for the most part. She dug her elbow into my back and didn't use any type of actual massage techniques . She used her forearm a lot to just kinda roll over my extremely oiled up body . She also jumped from area to area with no actual consistency. I wanted to like this place because from what i seen the reviews seemed decent but unfortunately my visit was nothing close to what some of the others have experienced. Somehow the 1 star review I left has been deleted! No bad language, no offensive remarks, pretty straightforward disappointment at the tip policy and being hassled in the lobby by the therapist demanding a higher tip for a very mediocre massage. In reading through many of the negative reviews, the manager either pretends to be mortified or responds by attacking the customer. In the instances where he pretends to be mortified, he claims to have either fired the therapist or given them a stern talking to, promising it'll never happen again. But, as you can see, this complaint has been going on for years so, clearly, the concern is not only being ignored but it's company policy to treat customers with disdain. read more
