I asked for a Swedish massage and Griffin did a great job- I highly recommend. My husband can't remember his masseuse's name, but she did a great job. He always leaves saying his wished he could've had deeper pressure, but for the first time he almost tapped out! He was really pleased with the deep tissue massage. Like other reviews mention, the outside isn't the most inviting. You do have to pay for street parking also. The only drawback is the rooms were pretty chilly and the tables aren't heated. First, let me give a huge thanks to the owner and to Ty, my massage therapist. Each year, I visit Salt Lake for eleven days on a work trip, and I knew that halfway through, I'd need a massage. I booked with Deep Tissue Massage and Spa before heading to Salt Lake, and the owner accommodated my more rigid schedule, which I greatly appreciated. Because of her and Ty, my massage therapist, I avoided a lower-back issue that was due to sitting in an uncomfortable chair. Ty immediately figured out the problem was due to my hamstrings, and by the time I left, my lower back wasn't aching anymore. His style is a bit more rigorous than some, which I appreciated, and I also appreciated how open he was to feedback and to answering any questions. He's just a very kind, conscientious person. First impression: the place is situated in an interesting building right next to a Chinese restaurant. The entrance is somewhat confusing because you have to climb up some stairs and try to find yourself to the front desk. You know you are in the right spot , but all you see is doors all around you and the smell of aromatherapy already relaxing your mind. They have a cute way of leading you to the front desk. They have sprinkled fake rose petals on the floor leading up to the desk which is behind another door. Go figure. I was immediately greeted by my masseuse, Lance. He was nice and had me fill out a one page contact and pain description form. Simple. I was then asked to head to the room and was asked to get into my birthday suit plus my underwear:). The room looked nice and clean, so far... so good. Their massage beds were sooooo comfortable! Probably the most comfortable that I have been on. Cushioned and heated! Wow! Plus they have awesome soft blankets that you slip under. Impressed!! Their sound system is incredible. Best I have experienced in a spa like environment. I felt like I was at the gates of heaven and the music took you to a place of ultimate bliss! I owe it to you yelp universe. Gracias The place is absolutely spotless and clean. Lance was a great masseuse and was attentive to my desired pressure. His hands were magic. I didn't want the massage to end!!! I should have done the 90 minute one! For sure next time. At one point, lance mentioned that he had to do something really quick for his boss and had to leave the room. Really? Was my heaven experience being interrupted by a needy boss? But why? I was a little intrigued on what needed to be urgently addressed. Come on Boss man, really? Anyway it was less than two minutes, but it still was enough time to mess with my zen state of mind. Went for a couples massage back in February and contemplated posting this for a while. I received a deep tissue massage from a male masseuse that I honestly didn't enjoy. I've never had a deep tissue hurt so badly to the point where I was actually in tears. I had asked a few times for lighter pressure and it didn't make a difference, he did not let up. I have received two massages since then and both of my masseuses said a deep tissue should never hurt to the point of tears and to speak up. However, my partner received his massage from a woman masseuse and really enjoyed it. He said everything was great on his end and he liked that she incorporated cupping into the massage. Not what you would think for a spa atmosphere but once inside the rooms are nice and clean. I booked a 90 minute and Kayla was my massage therapist. She introduced me to the world of cupping! The bed was warm, the oil she used was perfect! The music was the perfect touch and the lighting was nice. I could have had the room a little darker. The cupping was new for me and I was a bit taken back at first but it ended up being a hurts so good type of feeling. I had my massage and cupping done a week ago and haven't had ANY headaches since, (which is rare for me) The cupping left bruising but I was expecting marks and they didn't hurt. The building is a bit hidden, but the masseuse was waiting for me at the door. She asked for my pains and then went to work for an hour and stretched and massaged all my pain away. Great experience for a swedish massage that ended up relaxing lots of built-up tension and knots I had in my back, arms and shoulders. The building is landmarked (and unassuming) but the spa inside is beautiful and the rooms very relaxing (and large!). It's not a massage where you can snooze and nap in the middle of the treatment as you'll be asked to do some breathing to help stretching, but overall I left the facility very relaxed. Also to note: very reasonable prices (less than $100 for a 90m massage!). Tip: take the alley on the left of the building to park in the rear. read more

Firstly the location was extremely convenient and a breeze to get to. The temperature inside was just right - toasty and warm. Most spas are freezing. The rooms were well put together and nothing was out of place- the kind of space that makes you feel at ease because it all makes sense and there's nothing extra and unnecessary. My boyfriend and I have been here at least 4 times now. It's by far our favorite massage spot. I'm extremely sensitive and ticklish and they always do a great job at keeping me comfortable and still giving a great massage treatment. You tell them where you have problems and they really do a great job at fixing it. But to be honest even if I didnt say anything the massage therapists are all so skilled that they can feel for my problem areas and work on them. It is pricey but you honestly get what you pay for. I'm obsessed with this place. The building is restored with exposed brick and hosts original 1900s hard wood which contrasts with the most up to date infrared sauna in SLC. I've done about 7 infrared sessions and each time my skin looks healthier. I read about the benefits of light therapy and infrared from a health blog i follow that also swears by these treatments. My wife and I came in recently and it was amazing. My wife said it was the best massage she had ever received. We both got 90 minute deep tissue massages with the infrared sauna after, the total for the both of us was a great price/deal. My wife highly recommends the work of Anna, she says she had the perfect amount of pressure and relieved all of the tension in her neck and shoulders. Me and my man went in for a couples massage yesterday afternoon and it was by far the best massage I have ever had! The women who was doing mine had the best pressure and knew exactly what I needed when I told her I was an esthetician. She worked the knots in my back and on my hands. Recently I have been experiencing some extreme lower back pain due to a recent change in careers, along with this other general soreness. Prior to going to Deep Tissue Massage & Spa, I was nervous about having a stranger touching my body in any way. This is also due to the fact I am not a small guy. However the service as the spa was fantastic most of all Anastasia my massage therapist was accommodating and kind. She made sure that at all times I was comfortable with what was happening, and if I felt at any time I was not she immediately corrected it. After the massage I went to the private red light sauna, and bathroom. Now this part of the experience was the crème de la crème. First the bathroom was spectacular; I admit I am one of those weird people that obsessive over bathroom cleanliness. The shower had high pressure water which felt great on my muscles with a nice steady temperature; The shampoo, body was and conditioner all gave me the sense of being at a couple hundred dollar spa. I had the option of playing my music of choice over a speaker in the room. There were nice cups for a cup of water or hot cup of tea. Then the little sauna itself was lovely; As I sat in there I felt the pain bake away! Normally I am not one for high temperatures also! All in all this was an amazing experience. Okay, this place is AMAZING!! I'm visiting SLC from LA and needed a little detox time, so I booked a 90 minute deep tissue massage and a infrared sauna. Total came to $125 (plus tip)... which I think is perfectly reasonable!! A bargain! I started with the massage-- my therapist was a gentleman, whose name I'm not sure of, but I wish I knew, because I could rant all day about him. He was INCREDIBLE. He knew crazy muscles I'd never heard of, and found them, and released tension I hadn't even realized exists in my body! He was very intuitive and seemed to know exactly what I needed. This was the best massage I've had in 10 years! I will be back again, every time I visit SLC, just to get a massage with this guy. I can't say enough good things. From there, I went into the infrared sauna-- which was PERFECT. But before that, I must mention: these guys have all the details right. The shower had a filter on it, so the water wasn't hard (the water in SLC is really bad). They had a distilled electrolyte water dispenser right next to the sauna, with a hot and cold choice-- and a bevy of teas to choose from (all organic!). The sauna was incredibly clean, and had LED light therapy. It also had a choice of music or no music-- I chose to enjoy the local classical station. Wonderful! This place has got it spot on. 5 stars for quality of therapist and massage, Tyson was outstanding. I've had many different types of massages, but my preference is deep tissue. Often, even after clarifying with a therapist that I like the pressure DEEP, that my objective is to work out the kinks and knots, s/he doesn't meet my needs. Tyson did. I have some shoulder/pectoral/bicep issues and he got right in there an opened everything up. Additionally, he found tension in my IT band area, glutes, forearms and calves that I didn't realize I had and diligently released those areas. He responded to my body, allowed me to breathe through some of the discomfort while he backed off the pressure. Room for improvement: The therapy room was a bit on the cool side, a heated massage table pad could solve this easily. The check in / waiting area is odd - I wasn't sure I was in the right place (I believe they were working on signage) and the room was dark. If you are looking for a serious, professional, great massage without a lot of the fluff this is your place. I will be back! read more

Did not get the deep tissue massage that I was expecting. I ordered 90m of deep tissue but all I got was more of a stretching session. My specialist was an older guy who stretched and then just held positions instead of using any strength. My friend who was next to me had a woman who did a lot better. My guy never asked me if it was ok and I thought he was going to change it up after 15m. I would not go back as it wasn't what I was expecting. I really needed a proper massage after snowboarding in Snowbird. Don't expect to get it here or just make sure that your specialist can adapt. read more
