Excellent customer service with a wide variety of options. I purchased two ties and they are top tier.

Outstanding Experience and new favorite go to spot! Before writing this post I almost considered keeping my silence so as to keep this gem of an establishment a secret honey hole for myself... but after consideration I realized that would not be doing them justice. Where to start? Well I guess with the people, I had the fortune of being welcomed and aided by the establishments name sake "J Michael Barrett". Polite, friendly, and knowledgeable are some of the things that stood out to me when working with him through the process. He showed me exactly what I was looking for as far as options in a few custom suits. He didn't try to show me what I wasn't interested or what he was trying to push. He listened and was receptive and that was greatly appreciated. Next the options... countless would be the word I would use to describe their selection. Almost to the point whereas a novice I couldn't tell the difference between some of them, but thankfully Michael was there to help. Overall, having gotten a few suits made to measure in the past I know how the experience can be a bit of a pain or seem daunting. I am glad I went to J Michael's as Michael made it seemless and effortless on my part. Anxiously waiting for the end result. I would highly recommend J Michael's to anyone interested in anything from customer suits down to a new tie or pair of socks. Can't speak highly enough of them. read more

The stodgy old men who run this place have lost touch with the trends needed to support their careers. Baby boomers have the suits they need, Generation Xers are no longer buying suits, and millennials have never invested in them unless they have more money than they know what to do with, or they're headed into the ground. A new generation, Generation Z, now holds their fate. The fact that these "gentlemen," if you can call men who crack crude, barbaric, and sexist jokes while pushing unnecessary clothing on unsuspecting socialites and tourists who waltz in, ignore other potential customers (who may not like to be caught on the front cover of nFocus, but more often have deeper pockets than those who do-remember to "walk softly, and carry a big stick," blokes). Clearly, these haberdashers who profile before giving any service, have not altered the way they measure a man, preferring loose straight-leg, and baggy seat pants, which alone proves they should no longer be doing what they are doing and be put out to pasture. Their poor attempt to stay on par with the preferences of the future generations and stay relevant, "Haymaker & Co." perched next door, serves that made-to-measure is still necessary, as nothing in the store flatters a man, only custom should not be in the form J. Michael's takes it. Their style is stale, while obviously trying to reach a more casual crowd, and they miss the mark by a mile. Case-in-point- one can find Hawaiian florals at haymaker. After having paid way too much money for quite a few ill-fitting garments made specifically for me, ones which had to be repeatedly altered to get some decent fit, I ultimately sold them at a second-hand store less than a year later, some having never been worn, for pennies on the dollar, because, mind you, even the Oxxford suits were considered out of fashion by second-hand stores. Oh, and be warned, when the garment doesn't fit how "you would like it to fit," as they advertise, it becomes your fault, because they have way too much experience to make a mistake. You'd be better off shopping at Knot Standard, SuitSupply, or even a Chinese Custom Suit Maker. That is, unless you it's your style to walk out tipsy, sporting a sloppy and dated suit, all the while feeling pretty cheeky about yourself because you can crack a joke about hookers, at which point, go right on ahead and waste that money! read more

J. Michaels is the premier location for men's clothing anywhere in Nashville. The Oxford Shop is nothing. Levy's is nothing. Men's Wearhouse is nothing. When I went into J. Michael's, I was treated like a king from the moment I walked in until I walked out the door. I didn't buy much (I can't afford much), but I was offered a drink, was told about my items in great detail, and was overall impressed by the excellent service. I cannot overemphasize how much I enjoyed my experience, and wish that I could make all my apparel purchases there. read more

My husband loves suits. He enjoys the details and etiquette of lengths and fit. He's a total suit nerd. So when it came time for him to buy his very own tuxedo for our wedding, he was psyched... honestly more excited than I was about dress shopping. Basically, buying a tuxedo comes down to two options (like any suit really): off the rack or custom made. There are two reasons why you would choose to have a suit custom made. One is that you have a funky figure or size and off the rack clothes don't fit you. The other is that you are incredibly picky. Guess which camp my husband fits in? Right, the second. He looked at Levy's, which had a large off the rack selection and he decided that the choices were not ACTUAL tuxedos but really suits pretending to be tuxedos. They had pseudo-custom but it didn't allow him to truly follow the tuxedo rule book. In steps J. Michaels. J Michaels might be the worst thing to ever happen to our checking account. My husband has found an oasis where he can make every single decision about the clothes he buys. His tuxedo is his favorite outfit. He got to choose everything and I mean everything: shape of the color, fabric of collar, fabric and grain of jacket, lining, length, width, how many pleats did you want, Sir? He had a wonderful experience. He brought along his brother to help and the next weekend they went back so his brother could order one too. They both looked amazing on our wedding day and I credit that to the good fits they got at J. Michaels. In addition to catering to the funky sized and super picky, they do sell off the rack clothes. It's a full service establishment, they will even help you learn to tie your bow tie. If suits are your thing and you enjoy being picky, this is your kind of place and I would strongly suggest you make an afternoon of it. read more

J. Michaels is an upscale clothing store right above P.F. Chang's on West End. They have a great selection of ties and dress shirts. The interior is slick with wood floors and highly attentive and well groomed staff that are ready and willing to help. I went in there to find an experienced tailor for one of my suits, and they had a great one, but it was a bit pricy. If you are looking for nice shoes and cloths for men, look no further, I am sure this place will satisfy even the most hardcore cloths horse. read more

You couldn't ask for better service. I have shopped with them for almost 20 years and the good lord willing I will for another 20 years. Every item has been perfect and the alterations are fantastic. This store was amazing! My husband has been looking for a great clothing store with a big varierty. Not just the stuff you find at department stores. We saw that Sharing Spree was offering a spree that was $50 for $100 worth of clothes! We hopped on it, and my husband found this amazing Peter Millar sport coat. We will absolutely be back. I ordered a Hilti Dayne cotton trouser on line from Michaels Clothiers. I couldn't get it from my retailer in Carmel and they were the only company that had it available. I ordered a waist size 40. Tried to put in an inseam measurement and the online app would not accept it. The $240 pair of trousers arrived un-tailored and it cost me $15 extra to have it done. The company was defensive about my complaint but the fact remains that their on-line app does not do the job. Next time I will re-learn the old addage: shop local. read more
