This place was absolutely awesome. It's right in downtown Springfield. We meant to go for just a beer or two, and stayed for wait longer. The bartenders were fantastic and the atmosphere there is exactly what I want out of an Irish pub. I wish I'd taken pictures, but I got carried away with having such a good time that we forgot. We also ended up finishing a bottle of Jameson by paying for four shots, and got to sign it! (That's a tradition --- finish a Jameson bottle, sign it, and they put it on the wall). I'm very honored to have my name inside a Springfield institution. My wife used to live in Springfield, and this is one of her favorite spots. So we will definitely be back! read more

I just want to make a post about the horrible experience we just had at JP Kelly's. Our whole family went in there to drink after the farmers market. I brought my dog, as he is well behaved. We saw the same corgis at buzz bomb-everyine was chills after a few barks He was just fine at Buzz Bomb, where we came from. There were other dogs at Buzz bomb and of course some barking took place then everyone was friends. NO PROBLEMS!! K? Keep that in your back pocket while reading this. Our family decided to go to JPs. Clyde didnt make a sounds the entire time. Multiple people came up to me saying how good of a boy he was being. He was minding his business. This couple with 2 corgis comes in, same people from buzz bomb, and obviously my dog is interested as is theirs. Their dog barked first*****, so mine barked after, duh. So a bartender came up to us (group of 10-12) and said if my dog barked again, we needed to leave. I asked another bartender why because the other couples dog barked first and his response was "well they come in weekly" ahhhh sooo it's okay since they patron there often and we don't as much. Although, their dog started it everytime?? So I was saying goodbye to my family and ANOTHER bartender came up saying we had to leave and don't come back. TRUST!!! We won't!! AFTER clyde and I left, the bartender told my brother in law that he told us to leave 3x which literally did not happen!! He told me the one time and we left. So please!! My wife and I were in Springfield for a convention and decided to find a local pub after doing the typical touristy stuff. Came across J P Kelly's and felt at home immediately! Great bartenders that know how to pour a proper pint of Guinness and just a lot of fun. Forget the trendy joints and find your way to J P Kelly's! Trust me! read more

Driving from St Louis to Milwaukee and was looking for a bar to watch my Green Bay Packers. Came across JP Kelly's (via Packer bar search). Kelly's is normally not open Sundays... with exceptions of Packer games. Wow, were we lucky to find this place. Great staff, great patrons. Hospitality was amazing. Even though I was there for watching football, you can certainly see why this is an excellent Irish bar. Spoke with the namesake whose parents were from Ireland (his daughter owns the place and he has a son helping out as well). The bartender expertly poured Guinness' and Black & Tans. If you are in the area, stop in. Or if you are a Packer fan make a special trip! (Hint, bring some food for the potluck if you think of it). read more

Came here for the bloody mary bar - was told by friends that you can customize with whatever you wanted! Pretty cool set up for it: grab a sheet, circle as many additions you want (olives, cheese, shrimp, pickle, celery, etc) and they'll bring it up right to you or call your name out for pick up. I love Irish pubs! They had Jameson Whisky bottles everywhere in the bar because if you finish/top off a bottle, you get to sign it and it gets placed in the bar! Neat place, definitely worth checking out! read more

Walked by last Saturday while visiting the Farmers Market and noted the full house. My friends and I stepped to see why this bar was packed so early. We quickly discovered the cool Bloody Mary bar where you can select from a menu of condiments and a beer chaser! Breakfast of champions! We found seats at the end of the bar and bellied up! Premium beers on tap and a fun staff (cute, too) made for a lovely respite from the concrete. We'll be back! read more

I finished the President Lincoln Half Marathon and we wanted to celebrate with some drinks. Blood Mary's should delightful. This was our first time, well apparently new comers are not welcome. We walked up to the bar and tried to get the bartenders attention. One of the guys at the bar said that we needed to place our blood Mary's ordered on the order sheet. The blood Mary's are made to order. One can select your appetizer on the stick: shrimp, sweet pickles, pickled asparagus, black/green olives, cheddar cheese, peppercini. For $6 you get a Blood Mary and a beer chaser, four different types of draft. The downfall is how we were treated by the bartenders. Drinks amazing. Note to self they only server the Blood Mary's on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. read more

Very nice bar! Beautiful inside and spacious for downtown Spfld. Tony was an excellent bartender. We enjoyed sampling everything from a Rumchata Russian to cucumber infused vodka and water. Comfortable, inviting and right around the corner from a great restaurant! read more
