I hired a Jason back in February to do a substantial amount of work on my home. In total I have paid over $20K. Initially he did a great job working hard and getting a lot done. But when I started to run low on money he started showing up less and less. What I didn't know was that the State of Maine requires contractors to create contracts for any work over $2,500. I did an initial walk through with Jason detailing what I wanted done. A contract was never signed as I was not aware that needed to happen. He left a slew of items undone. On top of that the flooring that he put in throughout 50% of my house was subpar. The ceramic tile kept "popping" and the grout kept crumbling. I have had numerous contractors come to my home to tell me that ceramic tile should have never been installed on my flooring. But Jason initially assured me that he could install. After 3 months of walking on this floor it was very clear that he didn't do good work and I agreed with the other contractors that had come in. I reached out through text message to Jason that he needed to do something about this floor and what he had left me with was unacceptable and that I thought he should use his LLC to reimburse me. Upon investigating I discovered that he didn't have a LLC which he advertises to have one online. Jason fully admitted to rushing my floor and messing it up. He scheduled a time with me to come and talk about it and I had a cousin join that was familiar with contracting and could be there to witness. Jason agreed to pay me $3700 for the floor, pull the old flooring up, and finish what he hadn't yet done. We did a walk through and he agreed on everything I had pointed out. A week later, on 8/15, when he showed up to start pulling up the floor he didn't come with a check and I asked him to bring it. Every day after that through 8/20 when I asked him for a check he flat out ignored me. He sent other workers to my house to pull up the floor and didn't even pull it all up. Jason knows that I need that money to put new flooring down as he literally took all my money. I informed him on Thursday 8/20 that if I didn't have a check by the end of the day on Friday 8/21 that I would be seeking legal recourse. To include the flooring portion and the remainder of unfinished work. He didn't answer. I have pictures of his awful work, snapshots of conversations of him admitting to rushing my floor and messing it up, and snapshots of him ignoring me asking for my check. Additionally he was doing work on my father's house which he did not complete or have me sign a contract for either. On Tuesday 8/27 he had one of his workers hand me a bill for the work that he did at my father's IN APRIL. I paid the Jason in full for the work that is still not done and my father's house remains unfinished. I'm having to start a gofundme to fix my floor and help with legal fees, I am learning home improvement techniques to finish what he started, and I am relying on family to assist me in what I cannot do on my own. read more

My husband and I hired Jason in mid September to do a job that he said would take less than a week. More than a week later he was not finished and I had to leave town. I left him a check for the remainder of the project. A mistake! When I returned two weeks later I saw that he had done some work but had only completed about 2/3 of the project. Not only that, he deviated from the plans my husband had drawn up. Before I left I made sure he was clear on the details of what we expected. The last time we saw him was in early October when roofing was delivered. Last contact via text was the first week of November. He frequently had excuses for not showing up such as, at the doctor, family member had a brain bleed, trailer was stolen, someone was holding his trailer and wouldn't give him access, etc. Asked for the return of a reasonable amount of money but have not seen a cent so I am taking him to small claims court. I hope everyone who has been ripped off by this man takes legal action. Call the sheriff's office and report it. read more

Jason is a theif took my money. I gave him 19,200 plus my husband gave him 9,700,for a attic renovation adding two doormers and finishing the inside. Told me to give the money that he was going to put that money into his Hammond Lumber account any gave me his salesperson name. It turns out he never put the money in. He would come to work when felt like. Started coming in the morning. Then it turn into late morning to afternoon. Oh and not every day once or twice every other week. When I try texting him or calling he never called me back. Instead he text me days later. He isn't only drugs any his worker too. He talks likes he knows what he is doing, but he doesn't. His pictures are all fake. Call Hammond and Lumber at Fairfield and skowhegan and ask about Jason Rich. Don't hire this man run the other way. I lost alot of money. If you have deadlines to be met or a reasonable timeframe that you are hoping to meet.... then J. Rich Builder is not for you! He has absolutely no regards for any time frame. What he told us for a couple week time frame...wasn't even close! More like months! My husband & I purchased a 1965 bungalow on Pattee Pond, Winslow. Which we knew it was going to be a decent renovation due to its age. Jason came into it after we had already been taken advantage of by a previous contractor, whom we are now sueing. So with that being said we will absolutely admit that we found quite a bit of things either wrong with the camp itself or what other contractors did previously. He did fix some but not nearly what we contracted him & prepaid him to complete. Well that was the kicker....once we told him we weren't giving him anymore money until he completed what we had paid him for....well that didn't happen either! Not one thing that he started did he finish...not ONE! He would show up about 10:30 & stay until maybe 2:30 a few times a week. You can't get stuff done only putting in maybe 4 hours a day. Seriously! Then all kinds of excuses of why he couldn't get there...which we put up with for about 2 Months! Enough was enough. Then on Saturday, January 11 we made a agreement via text to just finish a large set of stairs by the following Friday which was Jan 17th. Which he agreed to. Now is it February 14th and they still AREN'T FINISHED! Seriously who does that! He promised us he wasn't like the previous contractor who took us for a lot of $$. J Rich Builders, that's who! Jason recently worked on insulating my crawl space. Not did an amazing job but his rates were more than reasonable and for the work he provided unheard of in today's world. Not only did he work beyond my expectations he was honest enough to let me know that a mistake made on my part required some additional materials. That kind of honesty is unheard of. This is a crawl space an area I probably will never use so I never would have been aware of the small section that needed to be done. As much as I hate to say it most contractors wouldn't have mentioned it and the client would never have even known. I will gladly reference him as well as my family who like me intend to use him again in the near future. read more

DO NOT hire this guy! Go look at his Reviews on BBB ( Better Business Bureau ) and other online links! He was hired and paid by us in full, we have ALL THE RECEIPTS, to Build a small back deck, front porch and stairs to the street from our little Cabin and he left all projects incomplete. He gave us many excuses along the way as to why he couldn't be there working just like the Customer complaint on BBB, see attached! BBB complaint dated 7-15-2019 We hired Jason for a three day job to rebuild our deck. He spent several months working on the deck off and on. We were given several excuses as to why several months later the deck still was not complete and the work that was completed was unacceptable. He was hired in July 2018 and gave us excuses until snow fall as to why he was unable to complete the work. In May 2019, we contacted him saying that we needed the deck completed as soon as possible. After several weeks he came out to re-evaluate the previous work that had fallen apart over the winter. We told him we wanted the work completed by the end of May and he ensured us that this would not be a problem. However, by the end of May, the work is still not complete or been attempted to be reconciled. We have since requested our money back to hire someone else that could finish the job. He again ensured us he would get the money to us. Several weeks later we still had received nothing. We contacted him again and he once again ensured us we would have the money. It has now been over a month and a half since The request and we have been ignored by this individual. We have had two other reputable contractors estimate the job. They state his work would have to be completely redone since the work completed was by an "unskilled carpenter."
