Extending from Jamaica Ave. in East NY, Brooklyn to Kew Gardens, Queens, Jackie Robinson Parkway may well be the most dangerous 4.95 miles you'll ever drive[1]. Two lanes and no shoulder lane in both directions means that any type of delay, being that an accident or roadwork, will result in traffic grinding to a halt. Independently of which direction you are driving, you will see accidents. Lots of them. Too many drivers oblivious of the dangers of driving fast in heavy traffic. Yesterday a car crashed and stopped sideways, cutting off Eastbound traffic on both lanes. Just this morning an accident on Exit 3 backed up Westbound traffic all the way to Van Wyck, Grand Central Exit 18 and beyond. That's about an 8 mile-long line of cars, folks! Along the way you will find enough auto body parts to open an auto body shop. Other interesting finds may include an abandoned couch left vertically on the right lane. The most scenic part of the drive may be Cypress Cemetery near Exit 3, where Jackie Robinson is buried. At the same time, Jackie Robinson Parkway gives the observant driver a window into New York City's wildlife: roadkill may include various mammals of different sizes, from cats, to raccoons, to other not clearly identifiable furry critters. Moreover, the lack of shoulder lane means that the carcasses will stay there for a long time, giving you the unique opportunity to observe the effect of decomposition on animal corpses over time[2]. IndyBoro as I affectionately referred to the Interboro as years past, prior to the name change to Jackie Robinson is a typical Ho Che Min NYC roadway, fully represented with the holes and scars of overcrowding and nasty winters. Personally, I could give a hoot about what the urban committees care to call it, just try to keep the road in decient shape. But that's fool's gold as any driver would attest, nondrivers need not comment unless your footing the mechanic bills of front end repairs. Prior to the renaming, the roadway was the eighth most dangerous in the US, road hole statistics not part of the formula. When in proper condition, the roadway is a fun ride for good drivers, a nightmarish one for the ninety percent of bad drivers, the white knucklers, pointers, concentrating so hard on a casually banked turn. I'd tear your licenses up into little pieces if I could. The winding roads allow for a sporty spin, full with downshifts, upshifts and power shifts. Viewing a few of the golf holes at Forest Park sure beats the alternatives of polluted stone walls. read more

Meh! I really have experienced better. Won't get one star because I've lived each and every time to experience it again and again. What comes to mind when you think of the most curviest curves? The good ol' Jackie Robinson, of course. If there's not a car already on fire, you have to be careful to not become that car. The road ragers and speedy Gonzales operate out here. You thought those drivers in Nascar put their lives on the line? Ha, ask anyone of them to race out here on the JRP. JRP...Jarp? I hope I don't make this a thing, the Jarp might be dangerous but it's the quickest way from the heart of Queens to the heart of Brooklyn. The entrance in Brooklyn is sort of a funnel in which you have tons of room to enter but then have to make this super curve to the right once you are on. Please be careful and don't try to show off, it's dangerous there. The entrance in the Queens side is an exit off the Grand Central Parkway that's one lane combining with 3 other one lanes to make 2 lanes under Queens Blvd, these turns can also be a bit light and frightening, if you have a big car make sure to utilize both lanes and ignore the beeps and you would make it through. Once again, at this point also please be careful and don't try to show off, it's dangerous there. Don't use Jarp to name this parkway ever, it sounds weird but was fun to write in at least one review. If you can master driving throughout the whole spread of the Jackie then you, my good chap, are a good driver. read more

Oh, how I miss rounding your torturous curves with precision while getting out of Brooklyn and heading towards L.I., on most occasions taking my mom to her doctors appointments. Oh, how I knew every nook and cranny of each curve; when to slow down and when to accelerate, oh the thrill...loved it!!! Yes, the thrill was real. Oh, how I miss my mom sitting in the passengers seat, always my co-pilot and understanding my need for speed. She took her seat, sat back and relaxed as she knew I was good for it having grown up within a family of fast car driving thrill seekers after all. Yup, I'm proudly one of dem chicks! And yes, Danica Patrick's my cousin! Well not really, but she could be. I'm still researching my family tree. Smile. There are only two lanes in each direction of this parkway, so for you not so skilled drivers, please stay to the right and yield to the ones who better know how to handle those curves. Back in the day, before its renaming to Jackie Robinson the curves used to be tighter, but with some aided construction over many years those curves have been loosened up a bit, but are still tight in some areas, though not as hair-pinned as in the past. Anywho, didn't know this was listed as one of the 8th most dangerous roads, figured its ranking would've been higher after having witnessed a scenario or should I say mishap here and there by unsuspecting motorists. Yes, caution is necessary while navigating this raceway, I mean parkway. But this review is based on Jackie Robinsons positives. The positives of driving the JRP during the Spring/Summer months on an open road, sans peak hour traffic and no construction gets you to the Van Wyck, GCP or other destination quick fast and in a hurry...yupper!!! So, if your schedule allows, drive during off peak hours, once construction has been completed and enjoy the smoothly paved twists and turns that is the Jackie Robinson Speedway, umm I mean Parkway. Actually when it was called interboro pkwy there was a short wooden type fence,no cement barrier like today.You cant drive fast, because your just heading for an accident eventually. I drive it everyday since 1974 & if it rains theres always some jerk speeding,& gets into a crash.I avoid it in heavy rain...cause theres always something & your just sitting in traffic.Be smart...dont speed..& you'll live another day. read more

Even Waze can't really tell you the condition on this road. It is like you can never tell when the traffic jam will start. And if it snowy, forget about it. They should close this rd. The part under the bridge with the curve on icy road is life risk. I once saw someone losing control of the cr and spin 3 times. It is not the driver's fault, it is this crazy road. Now with that being said, J Robinson can be a life saver if you need to get to Brooklyn when the BQE is jammed (like 90% of the day). The Jackie Robinson Parkway makes my morning commute when I stay over night in Forest Hills to East NY so smooth and simple. I jump on at Metropolitan Avenue and get off at the end, Pennsylvania Avenue. It is a very smooth ride in the left lane since most of the pot holes caused by the snow this awful winter are in the right lane. Although it is a very narrow and winding parkway, any driver who is competent and paying attention can sail smoothly down the road and get to where they need to be. I also like the scenery as I drive because it makes me slightly nostalgic of old New York. Perhaps it can be the view of the cemetery or just the older buildings that are in view as you drive but I truly enjoy my ride every time I take this Parkway. read more

For the love of God, do not drive this road if it's been snowing or icy on the roads. You are sure to die in a horrific car crash. If there is an accident or someone's car stalls out on this road, traffic will be backed up all the way to Long Island since it is extremely narrow, no room for passing and no real "shoulder" to pull over on. The ultimate driving challenge so probably a good place to take a student driver preparing for a road test. This road ends near Broadway Junction in Brooklyn & starts off the Grand Central Parkway/Northern State Parkway. I personally don't mind driving it as I am a good driver but I'd not let the nervous, worrywart types drive here. People also drive with a purpose here so make sure to keep up vs. making traffic slower for everyone. read more

2 lanes going towards Brooklyn. 2 lanes going towards Queens. 1 car accident is all it takes to make this morning commute sh*tty like eating bad roast beef. The emergency vehicles would have to navigate using the only lane left in addition to car traffic slowing down to a crawl. This is not to mention that there are swerves and some sharp turns that a bad driver or even an average driver might have a hard time maneuvering around. It's NY. Not sure how some of these people got licenses but it sure as hell wasn't because they passed the test. I blame the people who drew up the blueprint to this highway construction. Under the influence of many beers? Likely. Travel wise this is still better than B.Q.E (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) which is guaranteed to be traffic induced every weekday. Good ol INTERBORO!!! Okay so name changed to Jackie Robinson. Travel alongside the park and the cemetery on the Jackie on its winding roads. Take it into queens or to where it begins.....in Brooklyn! Jackie connects you to the Van Wyck and Grand Central. I would strongly recommend having a gps if your not familiar with "going local" as the Jackie is 2 lanes and comes to a stand still if there is an accident. Traffic is not fun on this 2 laner either! Jackie has lots of dangerous curves and def drivers speeding there way through them so beware and pay attention! read more

This highway connects Queens and Brooklyn. Used to be known as the Interboro. It makes sense though for Jackie Robinson, a great baseball player for the Brooklyn Dodgers back in the day. I don't use it much often as I don't head to Brooklyn too often. I usually use it to avoid traffic on the south bound Van Wyk. If there's an accident though it's tough because it's only two lanes and it's pretty narrow. VERY winding road. Lots of racetrack type turns. Not wise to speed here. You can see the scrapes on the turns from past cars taking the turns too fast. read more

This is a accident infested parkway! Jackie Robinson Parkway, what use to be known as Interboro Parkway until 1997. It's a 2 lane nightmare that runs from Brooklyn into Queens. Many may find the lanes narrow but I really don't mind it especially after driving on roads in other countries that shouldn't even be considered roads but I can see why people would have difficulty driving on Jackie Robinson. There are a bunch a-holes who drive in the middle of both lanes, motorcycles criss crossing in between lanes, nobody seem to follow the speed limit, and I barely ever see a officer pull someone on this parkway for reckless driving. Jackie Robinson Parkway is prone to many accidents, traffic, congestion, honking, and 18 wheeler trucks who aren't suppose to be on the parkway and find themselves smashing into the roof of the underpass along Union Turnpike and Queens Blvd. There's been many incidents involving people committing suicide because of lack of fencing and guard rails above the parkway. The craziest accident I've seen so far is when a SUV was hit from above on Union Turnpike and Markwood Road/ Park Lane and plummeted down onto the parkway. Read the article below from NY Post. A small curvy highway that gets very, very jammed during peak hours. Fun to ride when is empty. The lanes are so small and tight that is really dangerous to drive it. The incoming cars from the parkway entrance are dangerous, they just drive in really fast into the lane and cut the flow of ongoing cars that are already on the parkway, as if they had all the right away to go from the parkway's entrance, so one have to really slow down to avoid an accident. read more

Can be an interesting drive when its not a parking lot. It will keep you entertained with all the twist and turns. Going through the narrow tunnel near Queens boulevard can be quite scary. Take you time and enjoy the ride. Pray it isn't bumper to bumper, because traffic that begins at Exit 1 will leaving you wishing you hadn't hopped on. read more

Back in the blissful halcyon days of being a (mainly subway) passenger before the hell of owning a car the Interboro was a place where I could marvel at how quickly a driver could get from Brooklyn to Queens- or boil at the sight of the taxi meter steadily creeping up while you advance by mere inches, without a single safe place to get out and stop the wallet from hæmorrhaging. Now it's a necessary evil in my commute to work out in LI, the only joy it brings coming from the satisfaction of knowing that the people who try and cut the two mile backup to enter it at the last minute are likely getting their paint dinged and windshields chipped by all the debris on the road where the left exit from the Grand Central splits off. read more

The Jackie Robinson Parkway was an early Robert Moses project that opened in the late 1930's. It starts where Jamaica and Pennsylvania Avenues intersect in the Brooklyn neighborhood of East New York. This was never supposed to be the permanent starting point of the highway - it was actually supposed to continue down Pennsylvania Avenue on an elevated road, pass through what is now Starrett City and then connect with the Belt Parkway. The elevated portion was never built so the highway starts and ends in an odd place in Brooklyn. It is a narrow road with only 2 lanes on each side. After passing the site of the old Ridgewood Reservoir (closed in the early 1980s), the highway enters Queens and passes THROUGH Mount Judah Cemetery, the Hungarian Cemetery and the Cypress Hills Cemetery, Not around - through. There are tombstones on both sides of the highway. When Robert Moses designed this roadway, he actually had bodies exhumed and reburied elsewhere to make room for his highway. Here the parkway narrows and makes sharp turns. At exit 4, Forest Park Drive, the parkway enters Forest Park. Exit 5 is at Myrtle Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard. At exit 6, Metropolitan Avenue, Union Turnpike straddles the parkway, but there is no access to or from Union Turnpike. The parkway and Union Turnpike then exit the Forest Park neighborhood, and go under Queens Boulevard (NY 25). Union Turnpike shares a diamond interchange with Queens Boulevard, but there is no access from the parkway. Exit 7, an eastbound-only exit, goes to the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) northbound (no access southbound). Exit 8 (eastbound only) is the Grand Central Parkway, where the Jackie Robinson Parkway ends. It is worth nothing that until the late 1970's, there were gas stations located on the sides of the highway just east of the Metropolitan Avenue entrance/exit ramps. read more
