5 stars at a Best Western you say? You betcha! Is it a 5…read morestar hotel? No. Did they still earn a 5 star review for expectations vs reality. Absolutely. On entry, you're welcomed by a fireplace & comfy seating area, as well as friendly desk staff. Check-in was easy & we were given water & snacks, the run down on everything offered & they even offered a wake up call (didn't know that was still done). The decor is fresh and eye-pleasing. There were no odd odors & the room was clean. The dreaded time to pop food/drinks into the never quite cold, might get food poisoning fridge was now here... but, wait, what's this... a COLD fridge with a freezer. Booyah! Next is the challenge of sleeping, while the beds are usually comfy enough, this chain notoriously has no sound proofing & we wake regularly to doos slamming, people taking in the halls & the upstairs room where there always seems to be some sort of Olympic tumbling practice between 1-4am. In we go - comfy bed, check. Asleep within minutes, check. Wake up to noise, yup... our alarm... wait, what?! We slept through the night. No noise, no crazy temp swings... win! Down to breakfast- we usually skip this, but today we needed to get on the road fast. Assuming d/t covid precautions, breakfast is served by staff - today was fried eggs with choice of bread, along with standard continental selection. They aren't stingy &, while not cooked to order, the eggs are real eggs. Think a visit to grandma's house... they were pretty sure we needed more food & pushed, but in a friendly way. "You only had one egg, they aren't very big. You want another? Maybe some cereal? At least take a muffin!" We loved this gal! To the room for coffee thanks to the cold fridge, my milk was still safe for human consumption & the coffee offered in room was also real & there was plenty of it. Yes, drinkable hotel coffee. An actual cold fridge in a clean room with a comfy bed, accurate climate control, sound-proofing & they have great staff - bonus for a fast breakfast & coffee - meaning we were on the road straight away & good to go tol lunch. Yeah, this one is a win.

We set out on a weekend road trip, one that I had been looking forward to. I really needed a break, a chance to unwind. I hadn't had a weekend off in months... and spending over $130 a night, the conditions of this motel was horrifying. We checked in and within 5 minutes, checked out. Reception refunded us the money no questions asked, like they already knew why we wanted our money back. Upon walking into the room, there was (what looked like) blood splatter on the carpet. Hepatitis, no thank you. The lighting was so dim that you couldn't immediately see the filth of the bedding, but when I peeled back the sheets I almost gagged. Stains ranging of all colors on the mattress protector and mattress itself. Remains of vomit still caked into the mattress cover. The mattress looked like it belonged in the dumpster. I didn't even check the bathroom, I just wanted out of there ASAP. Oh, almost forgot to mention the pool area reaks of urine smell. Please don't book this place, we needed to book a room in Roger's (different hotel obviously) due to availability. Don't let this place put a damper on your plans. Management needs a reality check before inspection!!! UPDATE: Super 8 DID charge the card! Now to dispute! ITS A NEVER ENDING SITUATION OMG

And met a nice little roach that met his demise. Towels were rough like sandpaper. One small bar of soap only. Room was never cleaned the 3 1/2 days I was there. Breakfast was very limited. Same food for several days. It was never removed or restocked. Coffee horrible. Staff very indifferent. Pay the extra $$$ and stay at the Best Western. It was very nice

Lovely! I booked the Dayton Room in the penthouse for the night before my wedding. It was a last…read moreminute purchase and I was very pleased with the results. I didn't want a generic hotel room so the New Victorian Mansion allowed me to have comfort as if I was in my own home. Some of my favorite highlights include: wrap around front porch, view of the Cathedral, large bathroom with a nautical theme, breakfast in the dining room and overall peacefulness and serenity of the space. Upon arrival, there is a free parking lot wrapped around the building and a main entry (you'll ring the doorbell) to get access to your room key pad number and front door code. Depending on what wing and room you stay in, you will travel either inside or out and have the option for both if you stay in the penthouse. The mansion is separated by two sections and anyone staying in the penthouse is on an opposite wing of the building. There is no elevator in the penthouse and it's clearly advertised online so you'll know what to expect in advance without any surprises. The penthouse is technically meant for large group gatherings as there is only shared 1 bathroom. Contrary, I saw others in the penthouse when I was there and we never overlapped on bathroom use. I enjoy the New Victorian because you can customize how you want to stay whether that is luxurious or a more modern dorm style. No matter what you choose, the common shared spaces in each wing are adorable being it's all a mansion. Even the penthouse kitchen was just enough with every accommodation possible: Nespresso machine, coffee cups, wine glasses, blender, fridge, pots, pans, etc. While I only stayed one night and had to depart early, I couldn't fully enjoy the breakfast as I was in rush mode to get married. Contrary, the staff accommodated a slightly early meal for me which was very thoughtful. Rating this a 4 as there is some generic wear and tear, missing paint, carpet stains, and cleaning supplies and cords in the open spaces. With some paint, hiding of tools, carpet stain remover, small porch sweeping with added flowers, this would get a 5 star. My understanding is that there are new owners so perhaps repairs are all in the works after being handed off? Don't be fooled: the place is clean but it looks more dirty due to the slight repairs that need to be done to keep the upscale vibe going.
