This hospital leaves much to be desired. I have maybe visited a handful of hospitals so I didn't have a lot to compare it to, but after visiting a relative in another hospital and seeing how absolutely different the service is, there's no way around this one. I don't know if they're underfunded, overworked, or a little of both, but changes need to be made. Here are the most disappointing parts of my observations of a family member being there: 1) He was given a shot ON HIS BIRTHDAY to make him completely incoherent, delusional, and reaching for imaginary objects because I was told that he kept trying to get out of bed. Because he was a fall risk, they felt this was the best decision to keep him still. However, the "babysitter" (as one doctor disrespectfully referred to the residents who watch over patients 24/7) was there that night and the next morning. Why not just make sure the worker makes sure he doesn't get out of bed? What's the purpose of having them in there 24/7 if you're going to force patients to take drugs to make them forget who, what, why, and where they are for over five hours? (I was there from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and he never went back to normal.) 2) He was moved to at least three rooms within a three-day period, and no one could tell me why. Eventually they blamed it on air conditioning. That would've been fine, but he was totally uncomfortable and ended up with a cold because the air conditioner next to him was blasting cold air while he was wearing a thin robe. 3) The social worker flat-out lied about a facility being for long-term care. Less than a few minutes after he was transferred to the facility, the company was noticeably irritated that "once again" Jackson Park Hospital told patients that it was a long-term facility instead of a short-term facility. When contacting that same social worker, she stuck to her story. Meanwhile the insurance company refused to pay for the short-term disability location. Then another social worker came back from vacation, lied and said she talked to me (she never had my phone number), and refused to return calls when I called her out on it. Apparently there is a long-standing debate between the social workers pushing patients to short-term facilities and saying they're long-term care facilities to get patients out the door. 4) I asked for a nurse to find out about #1 and she showed up at least two hours later and only wanted to yell from the door instead of having what was definitely a private conversation by walking over to where I sat on the other side of the room. 5) For whatever bizarre reason, if the patient doesn't want the food, they'll still leave it there. And then the workers (in tan) will point out that the meat is cold and they can't serve it, which leads me back to my original question: Why is it still here if it's cold now? 6) One of the beds that the family member was moved to did not work at all. But instead of them testing it before moving him in there, they just let him lay there until another family member brought it up. Then the roommate had to be put out in the hallway before they switched beds. But that still makes me wonder how often they test the equipment before just putting anybody in it. (And I have a feeling all they did was move that nonworking bed to another room in hopes that someone else wouldn't notice.) On the upside: 1) I cannot remember the names of the people who wear tan outfits (they're not nurses), but I met three of them who were incredibly nice: one was a light-skinned African-American woman; the other two had thicker accents and were brown-skinned women who I'm pretty sure were from the islands (Jamaican?). 2) The doctor did immediately call to patiently explain what was going on with him and stopped by a second time in person. I genuinely did like this doctor, but it was rubbing me wrong that she constantly kept referring to the family member as "like a baby" and "needs a babysitter." Other than that, she was pretty cool. This review is historical record from summer of 2018, I was involuntarily transferred here from Community's First Medical Center (CFMC) another absolute dump of a hospital with horrible ratings and reputation but this place? Jesus Christ it looks like a prison. I was in a state of panic and shock (duh! I was delivered here from CFMC for a panic attack and my ex roommate managed to use my insurance card in a health insurance scam. That resulted in my record having bipolar slapped on it) Never been treated for depression or major psych disorder. Just the basic "baby conditions" per my new psych who handles me through neuropsychiatric service. After one year of seeing him I was legally allowed to have my record stripped of bipolar. Alas that's 2019-2020 I speak of. Back to my 2018 visit to this hellhole. Being wheeled in here on a gurney past what looked like lethal injection rooms is HORRIFYING. (They're actually restrained patient rooms for handling police custody patients / super violent patients) but there's no labeling on the walls to make patients or even visitors understand what the fsck any of this scary Guantanamo bay like prison is. They took me up to the third floor, a nurse was relatively inattentive watching over a room of 5 patients. Zero privacy aside from the privacy dividers which we weren't allowed to touch without permission because I was back then being handled as a "psychotic bipolar with a panic attack" There was no psychosis. There was no bipolar disorder there was only a panic attack. After finally getting IV midazolam I calmed down but the inattentive nurse sat on her phone was annoying. At least I persuaded her to play some music to which the room was astonished at my pressure to make her interact with entertain and help patients emotional states. They had ordered I stay for 72 hours but luckily my mate (good roommate. Ex was ejected by a state restraining order) called a pair of lawyers. The lawyers literally showed up to the nurses desk and in my eyes it was the salvation of Christ happening. After about 36 hours or so in this hellpit those two suits said to the nurses desk "we need to discharge a patient by force of law." Then they came to my bedside told me to get dressed handing me my belongings bag and them and a security guard escorted me to a waiting ambulance to take me home. Never will I allow a hospital to transfer me here if I need inpatient psychiatric services again. I have lawyers. I know how to control what hospital I get routed to. If you suffer from panic attacks, get a legal team, have a patient advocate, store their phone numbers on paper in an emergency bag and better yet memorize them. You never know if you will land yourself fraudulently charged with the "crime" of suicidal ideations or being bipolar when you are just a panic attack case. Coming home was rewarding alas it wasn't the end of the nightmare because this hospital again falsified records claiming I had psychosis delusions of grandeur and bipolar disorder. Again, thank god to my psych team out of Advocate who cleaned my record after this place and CFMC ruined my record. This place needs to be shut down. I am astounded to read reviews about it as recent as 3 months ago. As someone with autism and sensory disorder I can sympathize with the other reviewer. Unprofessional staff a complete sensory hell and if you can't handle people snoring loudly across the room from you don't expect to get any sleep in this prison like hospital. My son is a 20 year old with Autism, mild intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. We moved to Illinois recently and I have started guardianship process but it wasn't complete at the time of my son's involuntary placement at Jackson Park Hospital. No one there would talk to me even though he always gives permission. I just don't think they wanted to spend the time communicating with me, even though I'm his caregiver. Dr. Reed laughed when I said he needed help dialing the phone to call me and said if he wanted to "talk to his mama," he would. Not true and I didn't get to talk to my son. Four days later, he came home in a medical taxi with no discharge paperwork, no medications and still no one would talk to me. He ended up going back into another hospital where I'm happy to say he finally got the help and follow up care planning that he needed and he has learned to dial my number. I've kept the text messages from Dr. Reed because I cannot believe his level of unprofessionalism and lack of insight into my son's condition. My son is not super verbal but he told me he was scared there and this was his sixth hospitalization and he has never said that before. read more

I like Jackson park hospital for the skills of the staff in handling all manners of patients; Psyche, very sick patients etc. I was there for an X-ray exam and the tech was very professional and helpful. read more

This hospital should be shut down. I was referred to a doctor here and I can't wait to find a replacement. The doctor I was referred to is great however, the support staff....every person I've encountered is absolutely awful. Each appointment is over an hour because the staff doesn't care to be effective or efficient and they ALL have the worst attitude. I only gave JPH one star because I couldn't give it zero stars. I suffered a series of heart attacks in early December. I drove myself to Trinity's ER rather than calling 911 because the city's ambulance would have taken me to Jackson Park. That's how bad they are, and everyone knows it. Jackson Park Hospital is outstanding. I have relied on them numerous times and they have never failed me. They gave me affordable vaccinations when I was growing up. They took care of my Dad and his many emergencies. I can call them for advice and get top-notch assistance. A love one was a patient here for 4 days. What I witnessed was deplorable. Ants and mice traps visible in the room. The gnats took over my loved one's food tray. The IV looked like it was placed by a 5 year old. Staff wasn't professional at all. I asked myself "Why are they even open'" Is this a hospital or a morgue? This is for JPH corporation. Please fix your hospital, people are dying here because the staff does not care nor know what to do. My father in law was forced to come here because he passed out 2 blocks away. I pressed the emergency Button because he ran out of Iv fluid and no one came! I had to go off on the doctors 10 mins later because the nurses are not doing their job. He was not aloud to drink/eat until further notice, so he needed the IV. Jackson Park Hospital a great team of courteous employees. Starting with the receptionist; from both location 7500 S Stony Island and 1625 E 75th Street. I have attended several physicians for my health needs: Primary Physician, Cardiologist, Respiratory, Podiatrist, Ophthalmologist, Nephrologist, and their wonderful Jackson Park Pharmacy. I agree with one writer, they "are in need of better equipment" which appears they are working on. I whole heartly appreciate the services I have been getting so far. Let's me not forget the Jackson Park Golden Life team who provides services for the senior, such as transportation; because of them I am able to keep my medical appointments and feel comfortable with any questions I may have and appreciate the reminders and pickups for my appointments. I am hopeful I can find an attorney to file a class-action suit against this dump. Brother came in for an episode of low blood pressure which resolved itself on the trip there. They would not let him leave. He has good insurance. In the month they held him prisoner he got three infections, devastating bed sores, pneumonia, a collapsed lung. Believe EVERYTHING you ever heard about JPH. EVERYTHING. We ended up there because it was our 911 destination. BUT when a police officer was stabbed right outside the "hospital", she did not get one foot in the door of JPH. They took her to Northwestern Hospital. What does that tell you? At times she would have to wait an hour just to get cleaned and changed! They don't let you stay overnight at all. The way they talk to you is very ignorant.. I have never been to this hospital but the man who teaches us CPR every year told us of all the hundreds of hospitals he has been to Jackson Park is the worst by far. he said if the ambulance is taking you there you better demand to go somewhere else or there is no promise you will live. If you want to kill yourself, this is the best hospital to go! Their doctors are "students", and they don't know what they're doing in general. My son was brought to the ER for a bad stomach virus. I would give this "Hospital" no stars if that was possible. this place is disgusting. My friend was having an asthma attack and I took her her and the staff is Very disrespectful. First, the "RN" called her and man, behind her back and thought that she didn't hear her. Secondly, her breathing treatment was finished so I left the section and asked who was the nurse for my friend was and this lady sat there, arms crossed and rolled her eyes and said "I'm a nurse". She was rude and ghetto and I said to my friends that she is ratchet. Apparently she heard me (Really didn't care if she did or not) so she told me that she isn't ratchet, I am because I live out here. I would not go here to die. This is the most awful hospital I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. My sister was a patient and the treatment she received was beyond awful. She had nurses that would check on her when they felt like it, and when you did call for one, they acted like she was bothering them. Forget about seeing a doctor, they are pretty much nonexistent and the ones that you do see make Dougie Houser look like a top notch doctor. Avoid this hospital like the plague. Typical hospital in a not so good area, trash Human Resources, the operator doesnt have an option for Radiology or the OBGYN so just pick a random number and have them redirect you. Lots of medical students there that dont know what theyre doing. If someone puts you on hold ask for their extension and offrr to call back because they WILL leave you on hold all day and not call you back and with such a terrible Human Resource Department im not surprised. read more

JPH is the worst hospital in the city of Chicago, it smells and the staff members are like thugs off the street, I was taken there on 5/30 2018, because it was the closest one, for a ruptured gall bladder, hernia and heart attack, however, I was never treated at this hospital for either one, in fact the nurses would not give me anything to vomit in, I was in excruciating pain, and all they did was stand around me asking what was wrong, I did not receive any medical treatment rather I was sent home, I later, ended up going to Advocate Trinity hospital, where the cause of my pain was diagnosed immediately and I received the care that I need to save my live, upon being released from the hospital, I received a bill from Jackson park for 8,000 dollars, I immediately contacted my insurance company and told them not to pay it because it was fraud. I could not believe these people would have the audacity to want to get paid for services they did not provide. Go there at your own risk. read more

Number 1 awful hospital with no real doctors after 3 pm only residents who could not get into a real hospital program because they are not American and could barely pass medical school. Medical students who don't speak English or even know what they are doing, coming here to experiment on us. My doctor left for lunch and never came back. I asked the nurse to speak with my doctor and she told me he graduated and is not coming back since it was his last day. Got another idiot who I will call by the sound of his name, razoole, who gave me a wrong prescription and told his medical student to sign it and send to my pharmacy. My pharmacy refused to fill a prescription since no such medical student doctor has a license in the state of illinois. Told doctor razoole to please fill my prescription but instead he wanted to do a rectal exam on me. What does a rectal exam have to do with a cough ? Never going back there, and still coughing. Went to south Shore and they told me I had the cough so long that I developed pneumonia. read more

I didn't know any better at the time, but I went here for care during my pregnancy. It was all fine as long as I remained in the clinic part with a very nice doctor, but one day, I was told that my blood pressure was high and that I needed to go up to the hospital for some tests, because my child could be in serious jeopardy. So, my fiance and I went up to what looked like a scene out of "Nightmare on Elm Street"--the hospital is so dated and unkept--it was scary. They began with a urine test, and the cups had no label on them to identify whose sample belongs to who, just a red or blue top, and then they told me to place the cup in this metal bin, which had someone else's urine there, with no label, and some dirty clothes (I'm not kidding). I asked again, to be sure, that this is where I should place my urine sample, and was instructed to do so. I went back to the room followed by a nurse who said she needed to collect some blood. She stuck me, no lie, 6 times, with the same needle, because she did not know what she was doing; blood was everywhere! Not too long after she left, she came back to tell me that my urine was positive for codeine. I asked her what that was, and she began to explain. I and my fiance told her that she has the wrong patient, because I don't do ANY drugs! Not once in my life. I have not once tested positive for drugs, and that was my second urine sample of the day. She left, and when she came back, she told me to just tell the truth because if they test me again, I can go to jail for endangering my unborn child. It was hilarious to me, because the experience was so surreal. I had had enough at that point, and told them that I was leaving, and they locked us in! You can not get out unless they buzz you out. I am very serious. I called my parents, who live in Wisconsin, where I am from, and they had a fit. Needless to say, I never returned. Don't EVER go there! read more

I know Jackson isn't the newest or top notch hospital. But I was there on a visit and I saw that many of the patients are outcast from other top hospitals that don't want them or simply because they have no way of paying. It seems like a low budget hospital that tries to help the poor without really having the economical resources. Just because of the looks of the outside and some bad experiences here and there, my experience was pleasant. And I realized that that some of the Drs carry their ID badges from other hospitals they work at. So don't judge a book by its cover but definitely any and even my own experience wasn't well, I would of said something, just like when I am in a bad restaurant, I make sure that they know. I would come back here. Thanks for experience, keep working on your flaws and hope you guys stay open another 100 years, since you already have been open for 100 years. :) read more
