The Manager at Mavis is a master of exaggeration and mistruths. Here is an example of some of the…read morefalse statements that he makes to clients. Mistruth: Tires are no good after 5 years and need to be replaced Fact: Tires need to be examined periodically after 5 years for dry rots and cracks but do not automatically need to be discarded. For instance, if someone kept their car in a garage, the tires should not experience dry rotting after 5 years. The Manager wanted to replace tires with 6/32 tread. The industry standard is to replace tires at 4/32 tread for regions that experience significant rain or snow unless the tire has disfigurement or extensive dry rotting. In New Jersey, the minimum legal tire tread depth for passenger vehicle inspection is 2/32 of an inch. Also, tires must be replaced after 8 years from date of manufacture even if they have significant tread left. Tires should be inspected periodically upon reaching 5 years of age. My tires do not show any signs of dry rotting whatsoever. Please do not blindly follow the Manager's suggestions at Mavis but get a second opinion from a mechanic that does not sell tires. It appears that the Manager's compensation is based on the volume of tires sold. Corporate needs to send undercover customers to Mavis at Jackson to preserve the company's reputation.

Dishonest Service and Disrespectful Treatment at Mavis - Jackson Discount Tire…read more Avoid this establishment at all costs. The experience highlights a complete disregard for honest business practices and basic customer service. My 77-year-old mother needed a replacement tire due to a nail in the sidewall, which I knew was irreparable. Living out of state, I called Mavis - Jackson Discount Tire, hoping to resolve the issue before I left that evening. I spoke with James Jackson, explaining my mother's situation and that I wouldn't be around to assist her the following day. James offered a price quote for a replacement tire, even adding a discount "to secure future business." He was polite and agreed to hold the price until the next day. I called back shortly after to place a deposit and schedule the appointment for 12:00 PM the following day, and was assured the installation and alignment would take only 30 minutes. The next day, my mother arrived early for her 12:00 PM appointment. Upon checking her confirmation number, she was told there would be a 20-minute wait before they could start, and that the tire change and balance would now take an hour (already 30 minutes longer than initially promised). My mother waited while other cars were brought into the bays and serviced. Her vehicle finally entered the bay at 2:28 PM. When she spoke to James (the assistant manager) about the significant delay, he dismissed her concern, stating that "appointment times don't matter because sometimes it takes longer to work on other cars," and that others were also waiting. He then callously added, "Usually I tell customers that they should have someone drop them off and come back for their vehicle when we call." My mother explained that she did not have anyone available to drop her off and pick her up and that the area lacked public transportation. He offered no response. Her vehicle was completed at 2:51 PM. When she went to pay, she was asked to buy an extended roadside assistance warranty on the tire. Thankfully, she declined, realizing that if this is how a brand-new customer is treated, the service would only deteriorate from there. If you are looking for reliable and honest customer service, do not go to this location. The Yelp reviews are very accurate and could have saved my mother considerable time and stress. I strongly recommend that you call other places and check their online reviews before deciding. Hopefully, this review helps prevent others from wasting their time. Great D.

There really should be badges or a sixth star to give businesses on Yelp, because these guys earned…read moreit. I just PCS'ed from San Antonio, TX, and on my way my wife's Kia broke down. The engine threw a rod, and needed replaced. I called ahead to Burlington Kia, and was told I would have to pay 8700 dollars. They required me to tow it over to their service department and get a diagnostic there, even though I already knew the hole in the engine block shouldnt be there. I looked on Yelp, and found JL Auto. I called and Dwayne quoted me 4800. I got the tow to Burlington Kia, got the 110 dollar diagnostic (additional cost, not part of the 8700). I called Dwayne and told him I'd have to get it towed over and I'd like to take my business to them. He threw the tow in with the original quote. Once they began the work, it was less than a week to throw in the entire engine. Dwayne called and let me know he wasnt comfortable with the new engine, but offered to let me drive it to feel it out and listen to it. The engine they got from their first supplier was a bit of a bum engine. I took the Kia back, and he found another - almost 1000 dollars more expensive, but in better shape. HE LET ME PAY THE ORIGINAL QUOTED 4800 AS A CASH PRICE TO HELP US OUT. I felt amazing the entire time with these guys. Personable, knowledgeable, and wont try and sell you on garbage you dont need. Thrilled with the service, guys! Ill be back!

I've taken a while to write this review because I wanted to be fair. As a towing company, JL Towing…read moreseems to do a decent job. However, my experience getting a repair estimate left me with some concerns. I brought my daughter's car in because it was overheating. I already knew it needed a water pump, and I had the code indicating an issue with the intake manifold. I explained all of this upfront. I was given a fairly high quote for the water pump repair and then told that before they could give me a quote on the intake manifold, the water pump would need to be replaced first. That didn't make much sense to me because on this particular vehicle, the intake manifold has to be removed to access the water pump anyway. My question was simple: if the intake manifold has to come off during the water pump job, why not quote the intake manifold part and any additional labor at the same time? Instead, it felt like the repairs were being treated as two separate jobs, which would significantly increase the total cost. In the end, I took the car to another shop. They did exactly what I expected they replaced the water pump and charged only for the intake manifold part since it had to be removed during the repair anyway. Their explanation matched my understanding of the job, and the total cost came in at about a quarter of what I was quoted by JL. I can't speak to the quality of JL's repair work because I didn't move forward with the job, but based on my experience, I'd recommend getting a second opinion if you're looking at major repairs. It could save you a significant amount of money.
