Fast forward to today--when I arrived, the front desk handed me paperwork showing my total would be $485. I asked to confirm that this was for both kids combined, and she told me no, it was for each child. I immediately said that's not what I was quoted over the phone. She went to check with someone in the back and came back saying the original quote probably didn't include X-rays. At that point, I asked if we could skip the X-rays, and they told me no--X-rays are required for first-time patients. Then why wasn't that included in the original quote? I stayed polite and asked if there was anything they could do, since I only budgeted $500--not nearly $1,000. That's a huge difference from what I was told. The only thing they offered was $50 off, which really doesn't make a difference in this situation. This was clearly a mistake on their end. I'm sure they could go back and listen to the recorded call and hear what I was told. In my opinion, they should have honored the original quote. Also, for anyone paying out of pocket, their prices seem to be on the higher side. I called around afterward and found other pediatric dentists with much lower rates. One office in Julington Creek quoted $324 for a cleaning and X-rays (and I confirmed that twice), and another quoted $259 total--although they were hard to get in touch with. Just something to keep in mind if you're paying out of pocket.

I was surprised). They set an appt for me for the next morning at 830am. I arrived a couple minutes early to make sure my paperwork was in order and was taken back promptly. The hygienist quickly did X-rays and Dr Mang was in shortly. After a quick review, he let me know I just needed a filling. Thank goodness. Overall I was in and out with a fresh filling in just over and hour (prob 70 mins total). My tooth is in good shape now. I also must compliment the hygienist as well as the front desk. I feel like a monster for not remembering their names! But everyone I interacted with was absolutely lovely. Friendly and warm. I had been looking for a local dentist because mine is too far and I hadn't gone as regularly as I should. I had a bad experience with a different dentist in the Bartram area (I actually love the dentist usually and they made me never want to go again). This is my place I think! I scheduled a cleaning for a couple weeks out with Dr Mang (they have a great variety of hours so it's easy to accommodate). I will update then, but I think my smile will be on full display from here on out after that cleaning!

When we were ready for my son to get braces we made a few appointments for a consult with various doctors based on word of mouth. It was my son's decision since it was his mouth. You'll find places that have game rooms, a frozen yogurt machine, etc...all in the name of getting your business. What mattered to my son was his one on one relationship with the doctor that would essentially be in his mouth and making a life change for him. As soon as the consult was over a year ago...my son chose Dr. Jason Rice...none of those other frou-frou bells & whistles were important. My son has been seeing Dr. Rice for about a year now and making progress. Dr. Rice is always friendly and personable to us and my son. It makes a huge difference when the doctor has a good rapport with the patient and family. My son still has a few hurdles to get past and several months to go. But I would recommend Dr. Rice to anyone seeking an orthodontist. I would like to add that we've been "too" early to appointments and he always manages to fit us in when we expected to wait from our error. There are two offices for your convenience...one in Jacksonville and one in Ponte Vedra (Nocatee). The office staff is friendly for the most part. We've only had one slightly rude issue and that person we haven't seen in a long time. We actually look forward to catching up to a few of the staff members. After all, isn't it important to have a good relationship along with quality work? Especially when it comes to your mouth? Not that it matters, but there is free Wi-Fi in the office. Plus, the offices are very "homey" and the Nocatee location has an amazing view. TMI: Dr. Rice always wears crazy socks, so it's always interesting to see what he has on. When I first started going there, the staff was attentive and caring. Over time, however, I felt they became more focused on making money than providing quality patient care. Their attitude became arrogant, and the level of care declined significantly. This week, I went in for a routine dental cleaning. The hygienist immediately started taking X-rays without greeting me or explaining what she was doing. I had already had a full set of X-rays during my previous visit, so I asked whether they were really necessary. I also asked if I needed a protective lead apron. She seemed irritated and replied, "You don't need it, but you can have it anyway." She then continued taking the X-rays. After that, the dentist came in, examined my teeth for about five minutes, and left. The hygienist then used a water flosser and told me I was finished. There was no actual cleaning, no polishing, no scaling, and no discussion about scheduling my next cleaning. I expressed my concerns to the front desk before leaving. Unfortunately, no one apologized or addressed my concerns. They told me someone from the front office would call me, but I never received a call. I also had a root canal and crown done at this clinic. After the crown was placed, I experienced severe pain. When I returned two days later, they told me the crown had not been aligned properly and corrected it. While I appreciated that they fixed the issue, I was disappointed that there was no apology for the inconvenience and pain I experienced. Because of these experiences, I will never return to this clinic. One of my coworkers also had a disappointing experience. He told me that the office called him just 30 minutes before his appointment to cancel it. I'm surprised that a clinic built its reputation on its patients but now seems to show so little respect and care for them. In my opinion, patient care has declined significantly, and I can no longer recommend this practice.
