Last night I attended a 6PM meeting and it was quite organized. Desktop computers can be used as well and there is a time limit for 1 hour browsing. The library staff is here is very helpful and knowledgeable. Quite friendly too. Come on by and visit SE JAX Public Library, there is something new to learn for everyone :)

They didn't just answer our questions, they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. A very special shoutout to Alex. I always get a little nervous telling people we're new to Florida because everything is unfamiliar, but Alex made us feel right at home. She was unbelievably patient, warm, and just an all-around amazing person. You can tell she truly loves helping people, and that kind of service is rare. If there were a way to write a letter to her manager, the library board, or even the Chamber of Commerce recognizing how wonderful she is, I absolutely would. Employees like Alex make a lasting impression and are the reason people keep coming back. Thank you to everyone at the Bartram Trail Branch for making our family feel so welcome. Paperbacks are $2 and hard covers are $3. Can't beat that! The librarians are so nice and helpful. And they have great areas to sit and read or study as well. It is definitely one of my favorite libraries in the area! And bonus - right now they're decorated for the 250th anniversary of America. So fun.

After the Yelp event that I hosted at the downtown Library, I signed up for a library card. I checked out their website and was happy to see I could reserve books at the San Marco location. I was alerted when they were ready for pick up, and they give you ample time to pick them up too. I parked for free right in front of the library, and there was a security guard that greeted me at the door. I picked up my books off the "hold" shelf, and then it was a self check out! I didn't even speak to anyone! I just scanned my card, scanned the books, and left - honor system style. The self check out was so high tech and offered other suggestions based on the books I picked out. There were lots of kids at this location the 3 times I've visited. I didn't explore the library much, but am so happy about the services offered here. I've read 2.5 books so far for the first time in years! I'm a reader now! Thanks Jacksonville Public Library!

Me and a few other friends came down because she was scared she was going to get harmed. We helped her report it and the man got off with nothing more than a warning. He was allowed to stay and continue using the computers while me and my friend were stuck here. (I had to wait for her mom with her in fear of her safety.) I've been going to this library for 5-6 years now and I doubt ill be coming back. This is unacceptable and disgusting. This all happened halloween of 2025 between around 2:15 and 5.

Willowbranch Library is my favorite, hands down, of all the Duval County library branches. It's…read moregorgeous on the outside and the cathedral ceilings and wooden bookshelves on the inside make you almost think you've gone back in time. We call it The Little Library that CAN! It has books (of course), cds, dvds, magazines, computers for research and internet, free wifi, a lovely children section, a meeting room, clean bathrooms, and an elevator. Thanks to the inter-library loan system (brilliant!) you can order any book in the county and have it delivered to your branch for you to pick up (and drop off). In other words, if they don't have it, they should be able to get it for you! The parking lot is small (and on Wednesday nights, full of people attending the church across Cherry Street (grr)) but you can park on Cherry Street and near the ball park without a problem. Plenty of bike space for those who want to ride here.

There's plenty of comfortable seating if you need to stay a while and do some research. Also, there are programs she children as well as designated area that accommodate different age groups. The staff was friendly overall and eager to offer assistance. The common logic and customer service could use some work. I dropped in to print a page from my email while I was out and about. I was told that sometimes the printer doesn't print the best copies and in order to print I'd have to purchase a guest pass. No problem. I purchased the guest pass and went over to scan the pass and print my page. What should have taken 5 minutes ended up taking over an hour! The computer wouldn't read my pass so I could login. The attendant called the help desk but no luck. Finally, after an hour and 15 minutes I decided to get my money back and go elsewhere only to be told there are no refunds. Now, I was not told BEFORE the purchase that there are ongoing printer issues and it's a crap shoot rather or not you'll be able to print and if I pay to print I'm doing so at my own risk. I was baffled! The attendant tells me "it's (the policy) on the bottom of my receipt". My reply was "the one you gave me AFTER I'd already paid?? How would I know about your policy if it's not posted and no one tells me until after I pay?? Maybe I missed the sign; will you show it to me?" Of course she couldn't because there is no sign. Eventually, the manager came out and acknowledged that I shouldn't pay for a service and not receive what I paid for and my money be kept, although that's their policy. In the end, another 15 minutes later, the system was able to be manipulated and I got my copy. Common sense dictates placing a sign informing customers the printer is down until it's repaired OR let customers know if they pay to print it's at their own risk! It's not a huge financial investment to pay for printing but the principal of a policy aimed at keeping someone's money for a service they didn't receive with no warning beforehand is preposterous and should not be tolerated. Unbelievable! Thank goodness I have everything I need at home because I'll never come back here. I can only imagine what other hidden ridiculous policies they have and I don't want to venture in and accidentally find out AFTER I've spent my money.

The idea of this program is wonderful, to gather ("glean") still edible food from retail and…read moredistribute it to the hungry. It is just not distributed in a pleasant manner. I took a friend of mine to the distribution yesterday at the Ramona Flea Market. It does not say on their website, but you are supposed to go at 9:00 a.m., pick up a numbered ticket, and then they tell you to return at noon for the food. Makes sense, but it doesn't work that way. Arrived back at noon and no volunteers were around. Others waiting told us to just wait with the other 500+ people who showed (my friend's estimate was 800 people). At 12:30, after waiting in no shade, the volunteers came meandering up. The hold-up? A 30 minute "prayer vigil for the poor and hungry." Not very well thought out, should have been held prior to the starting time in my opinion. After the prayer vigil, the "man in charge" came up, stood on a box, and then proceeded to lead a group prayer of thanks for the food and to save those who needed it. Very inapropriate. Most people who showed up did not know of the number system and were not pleased when they started calling numbers. A lot of pushing, shoving and complaining commenced and the volunteers seemed to really enjoy the show. No one, not even the self-identified "man in charge" with his Starbucks coffee, hobnobbing and joking with the people, seemed to take control or even attempt to diffuse or calm the situation. All in all, it was a very frustrating and upsetting situation and my friend received 4 pkgs of bagels, 1 pkg ea hot dog & hamburger buns, 2 loafs of bread, a head of lettuce, 2 moldy tomatoes and a small bag of sprouted potatoes. The bread items were still good (expiration date was today) but it will take work to make the tomatoes & potatoes edible - no complaints though in that department. My advice? Get the rules straight and let people know about the ticket system. Have the volunteers start on time and have someone organize it better...

Gleaners has been a service going on for nearly 20 years helping the poor, the unemployed and those who fall between the cracks get food. It started small and had it's ups and downs, but volunteers are still working to help others. Sometimes they may be slow, or the line long, but free food attracts people. The philosophy goes back to the old testament, where folks collected food from the sides of large farms, called Gleaning. Gleaners dispatch is a Christian organisation that relies on donations. They collect food in trucks, gas, maintenance, and insurance isn't free so they do ask for a small donation. It's common for folks to leave with all the food they can carry, or wheel if you bring your own wagon or cart, or make multiple trips to their car and most are feeding families. So drop by, check the place out. Volunteers and donations are always welcome.
