Places like this is why there needs to be a zero star rating because that is what it deserves. If you arrive early they allow you to leave your luggage but it's not free, even for paying guest. Larger lockers are 4€ + 1€ per hour while small lockers are 3€ + 1€ per hour. I can understand charging non-paying but I'm already paying you almost double what I could have paid for a private room at several hotels on River Liffey. Didn't bring a towel? They charge for that too! 4€ for your stay. I was in an eight person dorm and the pods get so hot it's almost suffocating in there and this was in October. I can't imagine being in there during the summer. My pod was 70*F (21*C) when I went to bed around 2200 each night. I brought my own fan but if you didn't bring one you can also borrow one from the front desk for a fee of course (why would it be free?). The pods have no outlets but there's two old fashioned USB ports so bring your adapters since most everything is USB-C now. Want to take a shower? The water is suppose to stay on for 15 seconds but I was lucky if it stayed on for 5 seconds. Would you expect anything else from a "hostel" that charges for literally everything? Quiet hours? Good luck trying to sleep while all the drunks come in and out of the room at all hours of the night and the girl decides she needs to blow dry her hair for 30 minutes at one in the morning. Oh and the fire alarm will go off at least twice at random hours during the night. The annoying light comes on when someone sets off the motion sensor which is completely unnecessary because the ambient light from outside makes it already visible enough. Want to wash your hands after using the loo? Either dry your hands on your clothes or use toilet paper, no hand towels provided. Want to use the WiFi? It's as slow as 1997 AOL Dial Up and nonexistent in your pod. Want to cook your own food while you're at the HOSTEL? Nope because they took their kitchen out in 2019 and replaced it with a terrible bar that's more expensive than restaurants on Grafton Street. Want to store your coffee creamer in the fridge while you're at the HOSTEL? Nope can't do that either because they also removed those! Want to sit down at a table outside the bar to eat and it's dirty? Don't bother asking the front desk, they'll tell you to clean it yourself. My bad, I didn't know I had been hired! The front desk staff was so rude I thought they were joking at first but nope! In the end, this place is NOT a "hostel," It's a cheap hotel masquerading as a "hostel." Take your money and run as fast as you can away from this place towards River Liffey and a find a place to stay down there that wont scam you. read more

I think for what you pay, it's very worth it. Staff is friendly and funny. Cleaning ladies be working in the morning and they're nice too. PROS - breakfast is only €12 or $13.25 for all you can eat?!? Steal. - wifi is very reliable - very close to The Spire. There's a lot of restaurants nearby - automatic motion sensor lighting in blue so its not too disturbing moving around the room at night NEUTRALS - shower is kinda small and the water stream is not a continuous flow. You have to push the button every 15 seconds CONS - if you're on the top bunk, the stairs and handle bars to get to your bed are kind of skinny so it doesn't feel like a lot to grab on to. Yes I know there's a bottom bunk reservation option, but damn the ladder is skinny. - view is all industrial but it's cool cuz it's not like they advertise a view read more

The staff at Jacobs Inn was incredibly helpful and friendly. Everything was spotless clean and in great condition. The location is close enough to the center but not loud. It is located next to the Garda station so it felt safe! My only issues were that my 12-pod roommates were very loud (but this is not the fault of the hostel) - the first two nights there were loud snorers that kept me awake. The second night was a group of loud British girls that kept talking at full volume in the middle of the night. My only hope for a peaceful sleep was on my final night - but I was woken up at 7:30am when the housekeepers entered a room of sleeping people to start changing the bedding and speaking Russian! Checkout is not until 11pm so it was unpleasant that they had to enter the room so early and wake us up. read more

Summary: //5 star for clean hostel, full restaurant and bar, excellent employees, great security, amazing amenities, and perfect location. //-1 star lack of events to bring hostel residents together (negative for solo travellers). Bar crawl is available but its a huge organization with other hostels at a different meeting point. Rooms: The pod style is perfect. It has its own light, power supply (2 USB plugs only), small shelf, and comfy bed. If you have a pod on the bottom, your locker is right below you with a keypad (forget your own key lock), if your pod is on top, you have a detached locker with keypad as well. The steps to the top bunk are built to reduce pain on your feet, they are flat and easy to step up or down. The rooms are large enough to walk around without disrupting people. The ensuite bathroom is good sized with shower. It's quite clean but the shower system uses a 5 second on/off thing so you have to press it all the time (on the positive they had hot water). Note: if the bathroom is occupied, there is a shared bathroom with shower down the hall. Amenities: They have several amenities, just ask them. I used their laundry. They only had 2 washers and 2 dryers so timing is very important. With 3 euros to wash and 4 euros to dry, it's a bit pricey but detergent is free so it's a decent choice. Restaurant/bar: I've stayed in other hostels with their own kitchen/bar and they were more expensive than this hostel. They have big servings with their food so it's a perfect choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner and desserts. Full irish breakfast is a great choice to start your day. They make a variety of good coffees as well. For those who enjoy adult drinks, they just installed more draught beers in addition to Guinness. Plus they have several spirits if you prefer, so you do not even have to leave the hostel to have a good time. Overall hostel: They have great security. You will be assigned a 5 number code to enter the halls and the bedrooms. After 11pm, you will need to show your assigned card to come in which increases security. The hostel is very quiet maybe it's because its during winter but I recommend to those who are avoiding the party central hostels. Final thought: I had a great experience with this hostel. I recommend it to anyone. Every employee was very pleasant and helpful. I had no negative experience at all. Keep up the great work. read more

This has to be one of the worst experiences I've had at a hotel like place. The only positive thing I can say is the Wi-Fi was pretty good. This started after the first night but I swear something was biting me. I do not believe it was bedbugs, but would be an surprised. I ended up having inflammation, pain, localized to areas that were touching the mattress. I ended up having to get an antihistamine at a local pharmacy. While I understand this is not a traditional hotel, there were specific rules about noise at certain times of night. The staff did not seem to care to enforce them making sleep very difficult especially on the last night. I tried some of the food they had at their bar. Thinking that macaroni and cheese is pretty difficult to screw up. Somehow they did with these weird breadcrumbs. The food was drowned in them. This created a very odd texture. Overall, I would think twice about staying there. read more

This experience made me not want to stay in hostels. Even in October everyone woke up soaked in sweat every morning. The rooms are virtually silent (no fan/ac etc.) so you can literally hear breathing of other people. Unless you are a heavy sleeper you will not get good sleep. The wifi did not work, they were always out of snacks, and I'm not sure if it was staff or another resident but my AirPods were stolen from my pod. Rooms are very cramped and everyone's belongings end up in a mess in the corner. Cleaners come in every morning at different times and very very loudly vacuum and chat, which doesn't even seem necessary everyday on hardwood floors. Showers were gross, toilets were scarce, and bar was over run with fruit flies. Fine for a night or two but after a few nights it was torture. read more

If I could rate this Zero stars I would. I had booked for 4 nights with the hope of meeting people since I traveled alone. The bedroom pods were inhumanely hot. I did not sleep for a single minute. I immediatly looked up hotels in the middle of the night and promptly checked out after my tour ended the next day. They say they have fans but I was told they were all checked out. The showers are awful and you have to constantly press/hold a button down to have water come out. Public shower is cold. A few of the women in my room were rude and constantly slammed doors. The window in the room barely opened more than a few inches. Once I arrived at my new hotel room I was so so happy. The switch in accommodations truly made the trip for me. Don't stay here unless you're in your teens or brand new 20. It was god awful. read more

Jacobs Inn is pretty dope! It's almost too boujie to be called a Hostel. At it's price point, it is also almost too expensive to be called a Hostel. There isn't a kitchen that people can cook their own food either. The kitchen they do have... you can order food from a menu. The decor and whole feel of the place is nice. Very nice. The rooms are super chic, minimalistic and have their own bathroom!! The only problem is the damn seagulls!! They are the loudest creatures on earth that squawk any time of day!!! The rooms seem to only have a heater, so for cold air.. you will have to open the windows. Seagulls at 4a.m. in the morning is the absolute worst! lol. The only reason I am giving this place a 4 stars... is that its too good. Too boujie... too everything... to be called a hostel. read more

This is my first time traveling internationally and I'm traveling alone. It's also my first time staying in a hostel. I did a ton of research first and chose Jacobs Inn because of their new "Pod" rooms. I'm SOOOO glad I did!! The room was cleaned very well daily at 11am as "check out" is promptly at 11am. The pod is fantastic and even in the middle of the day, when you pull the curtain (it's half wall/half curtain), it's a black-out curtain and you can doze right off as if it were the middle of the night. I never waited for the shower and a couple times I just used the restroom down the hall if there was someone in our bathroom which should be expected sharing with 6 people although in my 4 night stay, I think I did this twice. The facility felt well secure. My under bed "locker" was a HUGE compartment that held a full size luggage and you set the lock code yourself each time you used it. You could also use the lockers down the hall for free which I didn't need to do. Plenty of outlets in the room, a good handful scattered throughout the common areas as well. I didn't use the roof or the game area due to a large group of young children being there that week and the roof was always full of smokers. The staff was nice but in order to get information, you really had to pull it out of them. I think some of it was a language barrier for me as most were multilingual. If you have a car, ask for the voucher which they can give you every day. It cuts daily parking cost in half! The lot is Clery's car park and it's pretty close, even with luggage. I would certainly stay here again if in Dublin again. Complaints: -Very loud street noise (unavoidable) from ground floor pod room. (Rm 16) -Free breakfast is a nice charm but no alternative milks which would be nice, and ice would be available as everything was served warm. Perhaps this is just an American thing to drink cold beverages? -It'd be great if the kitchen was open all night. With my jetlag, I was often up at the middle of the night. I worked around by snagging what I needed before it closed but that means no access to fridge. read more

American friend stayed here for two nights whilst I was out of town. Initially I was very trepadatious about it's location but when I went to pick him up and have a nosey around I was shocked at how professional the place is. Remember it's a hostel, I had the most awful London hostel experience last week and it had frightened me off them for life, this place has made me reconsider. Firstly, and most importantly to me, it's spotless. The communal café on the ground floor is huge, lots of comfortable seating. The rooms are well spaced out. He found it extremely safe as he had to use a key card several times through various hall doors before he could use it again at his room. They had a calendar up of all the events in Dublin and their free activities suggestions. I was amazed when he checked out that the staff asked if he enjoyed his stay and whether they could have done anything better, it felt like a really nice hotel. read more

I usually stay in hostels when I'm doing a solo weekend Euro-trip. Most of my experiences have been positive minus my stay at Jacobs Inn. Seemed less like a lodging and more like a camp. The amenities are pretty dated, the staff wasn't as friendly and engaging as the other hostels I've stayed at and at night time, tended to be a bit abrasive. Given the majority of guest staying there seemed to be underage or extremely young, I would see why they were so stern about letting in friends of guests at night. The location is adequate to get around Dublin, the airport bus conveniently drops your off near the hostel and there is ample storage. I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. Though it may be a great value, the overall experience is lacking. read more

We felt unsafe by two men in our hostel room who would not leave us alone. When we talked to the front desk about it they said they were unable to move our room. Throughout the night, those two men turned the lights on and were yelling particularly around 2 am and 4:30 am. One of the men had a cocaine overdose and paramedics were in the room from 6:30-7 am treating him. During this time the man was slumped in front of my bed covering my locker Nothing was done when we came to the front desk the next morning to talk about our experience because the manager was not in. They told us to send an email, however it's been a month and a half with no response. When I called, they said there is no manager in to speak to. Having in multiple hostels for a whole month of traveling, I understand that you have to deal with other people making noise. However, I have never felt unsafe like I did in the Jacobs Inn. I wouldn't normally hold the actions of a random person staying in a hostel against the hostel management, but the management really did not care of do anything to help our safety. The least that could have been done is allowing us to speak to a manager or answering my email. Wouldn't recommend especially if you're a woman concerned for safety! read more

Awesome hostel in Dublin. Clean, comfy, friendly staff and guests, and very safe. Good location, too, near the Busaras LUAS train and bus station, the Airport Express, and 10 minute walk to Temple Bar. Also near a lot of restaurants and shops. I stayed in a 6 bed mixed room and had a great experience - there are large lockers (padlocks are 4 euro to buy at the front desk), the beds are comfortable, and I liked the privacy curtains - good for getting some sleep if the light is on in your room. My room was next to a train line, but I couldn't hear the train going by. Clean bathrooms, low price, big common areas to meet people, and good breakfast! Really nothing else you can ask of a hostel. I stayed in the Generator and this hostel and liked Jacobs Inn better because it was a bit cleaner than the Generator. Also, some of the photos on Yelp are old - the hostel has been recently renovated and looks WAY better than the older photos. read more

We've enjoyed our stay here (12 yo son and I). We had a private room so that we'd be together. I thought it was a very good value for a big city ($135). Breakfast was an extra 2 euro per person which seemed quite reasonable...though come down earlier than 8:30 as it was packed...and since it's a buffet it can take awhile. Overall it looks like they are updating the facilities. We saw them putting up new art, painting the hallways, etc. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

I've been in a lot of hostels all around the world, some very rudimentary in the depths of asia, and some in very big cities... But this... This was without any doubts the worst I've ever been ! First of all it's a very big hostel, I mean, I've already been in big hostels, but this one is more like a factory than an actual hostel where you could feel a little bit like home, or in a cosy place. So when you finally arrive to your room and bed, there is no way you can let something near to your bed, there is always so many people around, you'll have to pay to rent a locker and leave all your stuff in there (which means a lot of round trips every time). Then there is an other VERY dark dot : it was definitely the dirtiest hostel I've ever been. The ground is disgusting, the bathroom is disgusting as well, with a huge amount of hairs everywhere... And there is of course only one bathroom and toilet for 12 peoples, which mean you'll probably lose an hour waiting your turn.. Or you'll have to go in the toilets next to the reception if some drunk people is not in there throwing up... The staff isn't very nice either. And last but not least, I have never seen so few plugs in a building. No plugs at all in the rooms, no plugs in the corridors, not even any plug in the bathroom... There are only 4 plugs (for the whole hostel) next to the reception, but only two of them are working... No I would NEVER EVER go back there, for nothing on earth, this was like hell. read more

It's a good quality hostel. Quite affordable for what's probably the best of it's class you can find in most places. The place feels new and updated. Free WiFi in both the common rooms as well as the dorms. Large bathrooms en suite including the common rooms. Sizable common rooms and kitchens that got full of people but never felt crowded or claustrophobic. Light breakfast available and included in the price. Room with lockers to store valuables that is charged extra per day to use. Good location close to the city center with a lot of services, amenities and stores around. Jacobs Inn near the IFSC is the sister hostel to the ever-popular Isaacs beside Busaras. It has recently been refurbished to a really high standard, and the reception is much swankier than you would expect in a hostel. The common area upstairs is really airy and bright, with leather armchairs, a pool table, and a flatscreen tv. There's a cafe downstairs if you can't be bothered to cook for yourself, though the kitchen facilities are really top class. The dorms are much more spacious than many of the other Dublin hostels, Isaacs included, and are kept spotlessly clean. All dorms and private rooms have en-suite facilities. There's a roof terrace too with a few tables and chairs, offering great views over the city. The website is currently advertising beds from just €10, bargain! read more

Jacob's Inn is cleanest and most modern hostel that I've ever been too, and I've been to quite a few in my not-so-distant youth. The hostel is located close to a stop that is serviced by the airport bus, making it incredibly convenient to get to especially after more than a couple of hours on a plane. We were immediately greeted with two friendly international faces to help us check in. Their credit machine was having a bit of a spasm that day, but I imagine that's not a daily occurrence. My travel mate did not want the fully hostel experience, so we went for a private two beds room with bathroom. If you choose this route, make sure you call dibs on the lower bunk. It is bigger and more sturdy. There is a small tv in the room that was slightly broken, but it didn't matter to us....come on, you're in Dublin, why are you inside watching tv?! In the room, there is also a lot of closet space and a small table with two chairs. The bathroom were very clean and look newly renovated. The showers were the only odd spot. Remember the showers from the community pool that would turn off after 30 seconds unless you held the button down? Well, these are same. It needs a little adjusting too, but it's a big problem. There are walking tours and pub crawls available that leave from the hostel. There was a tonne of information for events in Dublin and day tours to landmarks around Ireland. The hostel had people from all corners of the world and you can get to know them at the communal and free (!) breakfast. (It's only toast, jam and coffee, but what do you expect for free?) There is also a communal kitchen that I would expect is used by travellers who are in Dublin for longer than we were (only 36 hours!). In the end, I would definitely go back to Dublin again (I'm already plotting ways to go back) and I would most certainly stay at Jacobs too. read more

This was definitely the fanciest hostel I've ever stayed in. Admittedly, I tend to travel really low budget - but still. This place was .... shiny, clean, polished? Aside from the fact that the rooms were dormitory style - it was like a hotel. They seriously had their shit together. Fast, easy, last minute booking (we reserved the beds when the hostel we'd arranged to stay at ended up being ... well, terrifying, and I have low standards for hostels to begin with, so that is serious.) Also, this was the week of St. Pattys - so you know every hostel in the area was awash with annoying international tourists. Despite that, we got beds reserved, got through their super friendly reception area, gawked a lot at the general splendor, and had some food in the swanky (but affordable) little restaurant. They really weren't significantly more expensive than other hostels in Dublin we stayed in, and they were definitely super comfy and overall awesome. Great luggage lock-up room too! read more

I stayed in a 12 bed room (all female) for 5 days in June for a quick solo trip in June 2015 and had an amazing experience with this hostel. This place is great overall, but definitely the place to go for students and young backpackers. The rooms were clean and accommodating, the hostel had a great daily walking tour for guests as well as a pub crawl. If you want to walk around alone, they have detailed maps as well (trust--having a good map makes life easier). It was conveniently located to the rail and bus stations. I was able to find a bus at the airport to take me straight to Jacob's Inn. If you don't feel like traveling far to eat dinner or get a drink, they have a variety of great restaurants nearby. read more

The staff, the location, the layout, the kitchen, other guests, the wi-fi (this was not the case at other locales where it was reported to be good {hello Abbey Court hostel, where everything sucked}). I stayed in the pod, and in a co-ed dorm room. Both were awesome, the pod more so. The price was right. The neighborhood has everything with regard to groceries, eateries, "everything stores". Jacob's Inn was the first hostel I've ever stayed in, so I decided to write this review after having stayed in a few more. Let me tell you this - Jacob's Inn puts all the other hostels to shame. For the same price as others, Jacob's Inn offers you an incredible accommodation: a comfortable bed, a friendly staff, a clean and welcoming social environment, and an ideal location that's close enough to all the main tourist spots while still being situated in a more local area. My first night staying here, I was by myself. It was my first time solo tripping and as a 20 year old woman, I felt pretty comfortable. I stayed in a 12-person mixed dorm that was clean and spacious. Each bed had a curtain that you could use to seclude yourself if you desired. My first night I also went pub hopping with people I had met from the hostel to the bars that the front desk recommended to us - it was a great experience and I couldn't have asked for a better start to my visit to Dublin. When I had stayed at the hostel again a few days later, my friend and I booked the 12-person mixed room but were upgraded to a private 2-person room at no extra charge. That room pretty much exceeded all my expectations - I felt as if I were not at a hostel anymore, but rather a hotel. We had a beautiful private bathroom, a closet, and a TV all to ourselves. Definitely worth the price! I would definitely return to this hostel again and would recommend it to anyone. *NOTE* - I'm looking at the photos here on yelp and I notice some of them are outdated. Stayed here for two nights in a four-bed mixed dorm. The place was very clean, modern, and secure. They seem to take a lot of measures to take sure only guests can get to the hallways for the rooms, which was very reassuring. Breakfast was included, which was great. Staff was also very helpful. It was a bit of a distance from where I would probably want to be in Dublin, but I enjoyed my stay! I would definitely recommend doing the backpackers pub crawl they offer. BEST thing about this hostel was the Thai food restaurant across the street. I was here for 4 days and went to eat there twice during my stay. As far as the hostel goes..it is at a good location. It is about a 10min walk to the Temple Bar area which is great. Rooms are not that big but beds are comfy. Each room has its on bathroom so if you're sharing a room with only five people then only those five people use your bathroom. Wifi is only available in the lobby/reception area but my room was located in the first floor so I was able to get signal all the way to my room. Also, if you're doing a Paddywagon Tour the place were they take off from is within a 2 min. walk. read more

Was a little difficult to find, when we arrived the staff was ...sarcastic? It was late and maybe they weren't 100%. Rooms are dorm style, bunk beds, 1 bathroom. Wifi is only accessible from the ground level, but we stayed on the floor above so I was still able to access wifi until I had been cut off in the morning. Seemed clean however we all opted not to shower there as you had to pay for towels and none of us had shower shoes. The bed was as hard as a rock, but it is a hostel and I wasn't expecting a tempurpedic bed. read more

So I've been staying at the hospital for three nights and tonight will be my fourth night. I'm actually writing this review from the room right now. I'm so upset I can't even sleep. So I fractured my ankle before my vacation so I came anyway with a crutch. It was wonderful because they were one of the only hospital that had an elevator. I left my luggage & crutch in the high security luggage storage area while I went out for a tour. Once I got back in the cart was gone. So the staff looked on the cameras and they saw me putting in the garage and they weren't willing to help me out after that . I was told I have to go find my own replacement for my crutch at 10 o'clock on a Friday night. And they kept telling me that I have to go look for it around and I did and I couldn't find it. The staff were not contact the manager even though I asked over and over see if there was something he could do like replaced a crutch. Absolutely nothing was done. Who would want to crutch? Maybe I have high expectations from the US as far as customer service goes but there should be some decency regarding the matter. Very disappointed by the way I was treated by staff. This and stuff was very adamant that they would not actually contact the manager under any circumstances. It's not right as because I was in a foreign land and I'm supposed to replace the crutch Ike went to the police station like he said I want to the 24 hour doctor like he said but there was nobody available no crutches available. Anyhow zero humanity at this place!! read more

Very easy to find. Just take the Airlink 747 bus and you will literally be dropped from the corner of the hostel. I paid for a private room and was extremely surprised about the room. It had a safe, private bathroom, television, and a comfortable bed. Location wise it's approximately a 10-minute walk to O'Connell street and 20-minutes to temple bar. My only issue was the sink in the bathroom it was draining slowly but I'm not going to dock a star for that. Overall the experience was great and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay without hurting their wallet. read more
