There's room for hard-core walkers, runners, casual strollers, it accommodates everyone's pace. And that's just the outside walking path that circles the center field! It's surrounded on one side by suburban neighborhood woods and fescue- just beautiful! Watch out for the bunnies that live in the neighborhood under the trees. The paved path rolls out ahead of you with straightaways, gradual dips and rises. Benches are placed at intervals for a stop and you can always look ahead to shady areas while walking along. Just remember to walk/run counterclockwise and don't be that guy who runs down the middle of the path against the foot traffic and you'll have a great time. Outside the path, on one side there's a big play area for kids - I see regular child play groups here. Climbing things, slide, jungle gym. This abuts 5 beautifully kept tennis/pickleball courts where you'll see all levels of players thwacking balls. The jewel in the crown is the artificial turf soccer field in the middle where you might see high school field hockey, rugby play, all levels of soccer play and practice. There's a low set of bleachers to watch the action on the field and benches to see the courts from. The field is *perfectly* manicured-just beautiful. If you ever wanted to see the New England Free Jacks, a pro rugby team play they occasionally have Saturday practice here! Check the field's Weymouth website, you can see the reservation schedule for everyone playing. This park has several tennis courts which are clean and well-maintained, completely open to the public, as well as a multi-use field, large enclosed playground, and a 1/2 mile paved walking/jogging path that laps the park. There are also gravel offshoot trails, and a small pond. On certain weekends and during community sporting events they open a small concession stand and restroom facilities. Dogs are allowed but are restricted from the playground area and are legally required to be leashed (6ft leashes or less are required)...so far I haven't seen anyone breaking these rules like you see frequently elsewhere. Lots of bike-racks, water fountains, trash cans, and doggy-bag stations. This park is great for families. In the summer months you'll even see a visiting ice-cream truck for the kiddos...

HIDDEN POND IS NO MORE…read more How great it once was when the marvelous and aptly named "HIDDEN POND," nestled behind Whole Foods at Hingham's Derby Street Shoppes, was a beautiful, well maintained natural resource enjoyed by many visitors to the area and to the shoppes. The official opening of the tranquil Hidden Pond was Jan. 15, 2011, inviting the public to skate on the frozen secluded pond. Visitors sipped on complementary hot chocolate as they watched their children skate on the ice. Warmer weather brought people out as well to take a peaceful walk around the pond which was surrounded with sculptures. Aquatic wildlife flourished at Hidden Pond. To see this once inviting and lovely spot overgrown with weeds and disheveled is sad and certainly not neighborly. If a residential property were left in such disrepair neighbors would demand homeowner action. The expectations of visitors to the Shoppes, outdoor enthusiasts, taxpayers and others deserve to be met by this major commercial enterprise. It isn't named that now, but everyone still calls it that, even tho' it's been renamed. The reason it was renamed Union Point was due to different towns having partial parts of them inside it, but it's generally South Weymouth. For years, you could still walk around, and take your pets here. There were some incredibly awesome high end playgrounds of the highest quality, but they are all fenced off now. Now, there are a lot of new roads, bike trails, foot hiking trails, and the canal that snakes throughout neighborhoods like Greentree, Gaslight Village, and other areas also runs through South Field which then flows into Weymouth Great Pond reservoir which is where all of the running water comes from. This canal also has a wide open section that resembles a small reservoir lake where wild life likes to haunt. There are a lot of types of wildlife lurking everywhere: wild turkey flocks, orals, gold finches, Eastern Coyotes, foxes, wild geese, sparrows, hawks, kestrels, blue jays, cardinals, robins, ducks, herons, cranes, seagulls, feral cats, lots of rabbits, skunks, and moles. Probably lots more, but those are the most common ones I've seen. The best times of year to shoot photography are on sunny days in the spring (which are rare) because the sakura cherry blossoms are in bloom. But hurry, because the rain comes out of nowhere and knocks the petals down quickly. Summer is pretty good as well, but you will get a different look earlier in the summer than middle and end. The fall is also a fantastic time to shoot photos. It's usually pretty warm in the fall as well. Some people tell me they like sledding here in the winter. But, I never do that. I don't like the cold. Unfortunately, there used to be shaded picnic tables by Shea Field Memorial Grove, but some cold heartless demon chained them upside down after Hurricane Sandy, and then finally got rid of them. So, no picnics for you guys! Hmph! But, there's a dog park with portable restrooms now, and you can also go to the Aircraft Hanger now called "The Hang Out" and get drunk if you have cash. There's events here every weekend. You can also ride your bike, and the set from "Ghost Busters" is around here as well.

This is lazy and disrespectful. But I do go in there often.

Possibly good for handicapped persons also…read more There's a wooded picnic area off to the side, however the picnic tables were turned over n chained up probably to survive Huricane Sandy in 2012 but were never unchained n set right again. A number of the trees are dead and have not been cut down nor replaced in years. It's a good place to relax, meditate, lay out a yoga mat in either sun or shade, and you can often see wild turkeys, wild Canadian geese, Hawks, rabbits, red foxes, and eastern coyotes. The park has several memorials, and you can also participate in adding adding or funding them also. Good spot for photography, drawing, sketching, painting landscape paintings, or flying kites as long as you stay away from the trees. Beware: I'm not sure, but you might also be able to rent it for private events. If you happen to be relaxing in the park on a Friday evening, during a concert or Food Truck Rodeo down the street, the traffic can back up and many unruly, rude teenagers and kids will shout, scream, and yell obscene harassing profanities at you from their cars just because you happen to be there.
