The woman who helped us first gave us an estimate of what we wanted tailored, and we were so happy it was cheap and affordable especially because we didn't need a lot done. She was able to alter both dresses very quickly on the spot, and although we didn't have cash on us, she was patient while we left our dresses at the shop and quickly ran to an ATM. I have used many tailors in Hampton Roads searching for one who does quality work for a fair price. I wear dress suits for work that need to be tailored. I have gone to tailors in Hampton Roads who have charged me twice the amount that Jae's charges, and I have not been able to wear my outfits because they were altered too tight and I could not sit down in them. I've been to less expensive tailors where their seam lines are crooked, thus causing pointy and puckered areas on my skirt, making my outfit unattractive looking. Having tried so many tailors over 25 years, Jae's prices are very fair for her outstanding workmanship. She is an expert at her craft. She takes the time and care to make the alteration in a correct manner. Clean and smooth seam lines, and alterations that make you look fantastic in your clothes. So, I want to support small businesses and I thought, why not keep it in the neighborhood? But I took a bridesmaid dress here recently that needs a shoulder strap and hem alteration. The dress cost me $150. The price quoted for the alterations was $200. From what I looked up online, I thought that was ok - since the bridal shop quoted twice that. But really, it's not. For what I need altered, that was a racket. And I've found someone to do the alterations for about $40. And it took three visits to get to that. So - no. Not a fan. read more

I dropped off an Army service uniform to have rank updated and they nearly ruined the coat. One rank was off-center, the other rank was poorly stitched as well as the service stripe. They also left a tear in the sleeve. After arguing over what "centered" means, they agreed to sew the rank on over again, but offered no refund. Simply lazy. read more

I remember going to her one Saturday morning bc my son needed a patch on his jersey for his baseball tournament and I needed it that very moment.... she gave me this look and then smiled, patched it on and sent me on my way. Brought a long dress here that I needed hemmed so I wouldn't trip over it. I was really excited to find a local tailor, and even more excited that Jae said she could have my dress hemmed in under a week. I figured I could have broken out my sewing machine and done this simple hem job myself (literally just had to turn the bottom up a few inches), but figured this was easier, and would look professionally done. When I returned to the shop to pick up my dress and pay, I was glad I'd grabbed my checkbook just in case, because Jae pointed to a handwritten sign I hadn't noticed before: no credit cards. She didn't ask if I wanted to try the dress on, and I was in a rush anyway, so I wrote her a check and left with my dress. When I got to my car, I examined the hemline more closely. It looked like I hemmed it myself! Stitches were missing, and it looked overall very sloppy. Jersey is a difficult fabric to work with, which is why I brought the dress to a professional, but ultimately was disappointed! read more
