Because he became unresponsive, I asked for a refund of the consultation fee. He declined, despite never following through or providing any ability to move forward with representation. I ultimately had to file a bank dispute to get my money back, which was granted due to the text message thread I submitted showing his lack of communication and unwillingness to move forward after the consultation. My experience was that I paid for a consultation with no meaningful follow-up, no communication, and no way to proceed despite being told I had grounds to continue my case. So many lawyers will ask their clients to plead guilty but not this one. I find that to be extremely helpful for those who are not guilty, it is wrong that our system negotiates freedom this way.
