Well, obviously I wasn't here for a mammogram but a CT Scan. I love this radiology center for its…read moreproximity to my home, the ample free parking spaces and most of all, the cordial staff at the center. Truth be told, there is nothing much to love about a CT Scan. The staff was something else. From the schedulers over the phone to the front desk receptionists, the CT techs and the radiologist assistant, they were all amazingly welcoming, polite and helpful. I have been here 3 times in 6 months going under the tunnel or donut. The whole procedure was painless albeit claustrophobic, as I lay there motionless like a corpse and yes, feeling pretty darn bored. Repeated instructions "Take a deep breath, hold it ...... and breathe" weren't exactly mind stimulating and would either drive me nuts or cause me to doze off into never-never land. But I gotta do what I gotta do. Prior to the procedure, I have to gulp down a glass of oral contrast that tasted like a flat 7up with no carbonation. Then I was given an IV and another contrast injected intravenously that warmed up my body, much like imbibing copious quantities of alcohol. Maybe I felt inebriated although I knew I wasn't but I'm such an alcohol wimp! Just so you know, a contrast is a special dye to highlight the areas of your body being examined. Alex was the competent radiologist assistant who piloted the whole procedure and Cathy and Sheri assisted. Kudos to him for doing a fine job and Cathy was very comforting. The Radiologist on duty interpreted the CT results and the CT Scan disc was ready for pick up the next day for my further consultation with the radiation oncologist. This 3rd visit may only be the tip of the iceberg as I can imagine needing many more CT Scans. FYI, if you don't have insurance or Medicare, the 15 min procedure could set you back by $15k ballpark! So it could be life changing to get the procedure pre-approved with no last min surprises. Then you may live longer too!

The mammogram unit on Sotoyome St. has definitely earned a complaint, if not an assault charge. My…read morefirst ever mammogram...my technician had long auburn hair, straight with some ringlet curls and a fancy barrette (very young). She literally slammed the paddle down against my breast and walked away. Way harder than was necessary. The compression was so painful, I felt like I was going to pass out. i understand that flattening the breast is important. Tried to endure it. When she got to my second breast, another technician took over. Maybe she saw what was going on. The first technician then literally leaned against the wall and watched my breast being compressed by the second technician. Did she enjoy watching that for some reason?? Did she have nothing else to do?? I realized days later that I had been assaulted. Now I have panic attacks and am experiencing trauma. Am having difficulty sleeping. Going to meet with a lawyer tomorrow. Perhaps there are some good people in this department, but it is completely ruined by the presence of the technician I had. She absolutely needs to find another job. It's obvious she doesn't care. What in the world would make me ever want to get a second mammogram?????

I'm sure Dr. Hopkins is very competent…read more He's the cardiologist my own doctor uses for himself. He replaced the aortic valve of a good friend of mine, who has no complaints. I liked him when I first met him. So I was very surprised, when after wearing a monitor to check on the details of my irregular heartbeat, things changed. He was clearly bothered that I had asked an assistant to give me copies of the 30 pages of diagnostic data. He never asked me why. Well, it so happens that I have training as a nurse, and had, for my own interest, taken a semester long course in reading electrocardiogram results. So he said, you have atrial fibrilation. I want to tell you about the 10 medications we need to choose from. I said "excuse me, but my first goal is to understand the cause, not possible medications." He again acted upset and upbraided me for interrupting him. Then I said: "I'm beginning to feel angry and need to leave now." He acted very surprised, and said: "are you coming back". I said: I don't think so. Then I learned that he had subsequently (CYA!!!) called my primary care physician to complain that I had acted in anger toward him; total misrepresentation of our experience together! Fortunately, my doctor next referred to me to Dr. John Hunter, also in Santa Rosa. Dr. Hunter is great. Completely different approach to a patient. He's a busy man, but acts like he has all the time in the world to listen to questions and concerns and discuss matters. With him I feel like part of a team. I feel respected.

Dr . Hopkins and everyone on his staff are simply extraordinary in every conceivable professional…read moreway. He is the doctor that my many doctors refer and I trust no one else with my heart. I've had two previous heart attacks and related ongoing problems. The one thing that I appreciate the most about Dr Hopkins is that he speaks using non-medical terminology in explaining processes and treatments. When you leave his office, you know exactly what is going on and his support staff actually does support the patient. They bend over backwards for the patient so you know that you've an entire support group looking after you.
