I know the gear is expensive and yes you have to pay for belts etc / if there is a way to share older gear after cleaning that can help many parents. It takes a LOT to get me to write a negative business review (this is only the second one I've ever written), but our experience at Jaime's was bad enough that I sincerely feel like we owe it to other families. Could your child possibly benefit from increased self-confidence, respect, coordination, and/or focus? Jaime's purports to hold the key. Just come on in for a $99 trial. They'll throw in a t-shirt. At that trial, your child will learn that upon joining, their parent/guardian will be buying them "required" equipment, including combat weaponry (nunchucks! a foam bat! a staff! an axe! a sword!) that they will get to use during combat classes (in truth they don't use all of these weapons). Most will now have a child begging to join. You will be presented with a contract that lays out your obligation to pay an enrollment + monthly fee. Be forewarned: your financial obligation in no way ends there. Though not covered in the contract, besides your enrollment (the cost of one monthly fee + insurance fee) and monthly fee ($240), you will also pay for equipment & uniform (we paid $221 for the initial package then more subsequently as "needed"), insurance ($49 per year), testing for belts ($65 every six - eight weeks or about $500 per year), and various stunts like special grandmaster class with autograph! ($30), special belts! ($20), break balsa wood board today! ($10 per board). In the end, you're on the hook for well over $3,500 per year. If you question any of this, no matter how reasonably or politely, fasten your seatbelt for some master-level flim-flam. They do NOT like to be questioned. It "hurts" them. To be sure, your child will probably have a good time at Jaime's. Classes are not physically demanding, they are short (so as to maximize profits), and kids get to whack each other with foam bats. I would argue, however, that any increased self-confidence, respect, coordination, and/or focus is not caused by Jaime's but correlated to the natural developmental stage of life that most Jaime's students are at anyway. There are PLENTY of other Taekwondo options out there. We found an amazing dojo in San Francisco that is way less expensive, more rigorous, and genuinely cares about students and the art/transformational power of Taekwondo. We could afford Jaime's and we respect that a for-profit business seeks profit. In the end we didn't leave because it was too expensive (though I believe it was). We left because of the way in which Jaime's seeks its profit -- by obfuscating costs and fees and taking advantage of parents/guardians looking for ways to enrich their kid's lives. read more

Our older son has been taking Taekwondo lessons for almost five years at this location. Our younger son started taking lessons nine months ago. This is a small family run business and the Jaime family is simply AMAZING! They are incredible instructors and life coaches...teaching our sons confidence, leadership, teamwork, discipline and determination. They are also community builders. We love that our children have made so many friends of different ages and from different schools. We really couldn't be happier or say enough about how positive our experience has been! We've had a positive experience at Jaime's Martial Arts. My son started in November and it has been good for him to learn self-defense techniques and be around other friends and adults. The staff are really great with kids and follow a curriculum. My son loves Ms. Jaime, Ms. Meere, and O'Sullivan. As a parent, I really appreciate the consistency of staff, use of app to make up missed classes, and the communication. The center also offers summer camps and monthly "parent night out" It can get expensive but the program is top quality and the teaching staff are really great with kids. read more

We love the focus that Jaime's Martial Arts in Noe Valley puts on self esteem as well as respecting others and being part of a community. Our 6 year old daughter has been attending classes since last November and her confidence has sky rocketed in that time. The classes are fun and the parents are encouraged to stay and watch which we really enjoy. The teachers are amazing and are fantastic at making sure all the kids get involved and receive the encouragement and praise they need to try new things. This is a real neighborhood gem, super friendly and welcoming. They have a great app too which helps with booking classes and staying up to date on the latest news. As a parent of young kids having tried a lot of different activities, I'm super impressed with Jaime's community, martial arts instruction, and instructors ability to connect and inspire the kids with the program offerings. my kids train weekly with other kids at the same level and are all progressing in a way that's right for them. Personally as a student in this program, I feel very educated in there, and its balanced between fun and discipline! 10/10 would recommend!

We are fairly new to the philosophy of martial arts and coming into this I wasn't sure what to expect. So far my 5 year old son has earned 2 stripes and is able to yell "Yes Mam!" in response to his teacher's direction. This impresses me most (funny enough) on the list of things he's learned so far. I appreciate the way Ms. Jamie talks to the children; she explains concepts thoroughly and gives the children an opportunity to answer with confidence, I hear a lot of positive talk like; "I can do this" "yes I can" and she often incorporates parents and siblings, along with talking a lot of about vegetables :). I would recommend this to any parent looking to give their children confidence, focus and character building skills along with important "stranger danger" awareness. I had my Daugher join and she liked it, but didn't love it. After sometime my daughter didn't like it , it was getting boring for her. What they charge $200 a month 2x a week for 30 minutes is extremely expensive. Most of the time they were just doing jumping jacks and crunches ya i bit of self defense but is not worth it. The instructor was great, but i felt i had to write a review just because i didn't like that every month we were force to buy their equipment mind you there not cheap. Since my daughter quit I've asked around all the tae kwon do and they provide equipments for their students. We shouldn't be forced buying equipments every time it's ridiculous. Now i am stuck with hundreds of dollars of equipment for nothing. I feel that if we are already paying a good chunk of money they shouldn't force us buying their equipments for marketing. This is a wonderful studio!! My son has been coming here for almost a year now and continues to enjoy his time. They focus on resilience and confidence in an extremely supportive environment. They are fantastic at leveling kids so they are always challenged, but never overwhelmed. Testing is an added cost (each time they get a new belt), but keep an eye out for package offers - which make it much more cost-effective. Jaime's has been amazing for my 16 year old son. He has transformed into a confident, well-adjusted young man from a shy, reserved 7th grader whose goal was to goal the entire day without having to speak in class (other than to his friends). When we first began he refused to do competitions or sparring, this April he will be in Nationals with his red belt recommended. After about 6 weeks into the Leadership program, my son started receiving positive notes home from his teachers because they noticed a difference in him too. He was more confident and vocal in class.
