It's worth noting that this is not a traditional hobby shop, if you are looking for models and trains consider trying Unkel Joe's Woodshed or Hobby Lobby. Store Interior is large and open. SCG has a large amount of gaming space in the back of the store that does not obstruct the shopping area. The large selection of trading cards including sports and collectable card gaming items is located on the left side of the store, with most behind the counter. SCG has a large selection of board games and Lego sets, with a good selection of pop vinyl's. Various table top gaming items are also available. Comic selection is primarily budget long boxes that are well organized, with some premium boxes, wall books, and a limited selection of new pulls available. Has a large selection of graphic novels. SCG Hobby is the best general hobby shop in the Altoona area and absolutely worth a stop.

This store has something for everyone. I'm into RPGs, my partner is into Lego, and both of us enjoy graphic novels & board games. I bought her a Lego set & she bought me a copy of the old classic Mille Bournes. I tried to take several photos so visitors have some idea what they might see, but these photos don't include many sections, such as the comics, Funko Pops, CCGs, or gaming miniatures. Husband has recently gotten into building Gunplas (Japanese model robots, similar to transformers)…read moreand was looking for hobby shops that carry models and tools to customize them. After a quick search we found Kranzels. Located a few blocks from the West Shore Farmers market, they carry a large and wide scale of RC cars, models, Boats, Air Planes and an impressive amount of Gunplas. The Gunplas were a little hard to find but go to the back counter and turn around, there's a HUGE shelf of them to choose from, all grades available. We talked to one of the employees and he informed us of what all models they stocked, when they got the perfect grades in (the highest quality models) and all the paints/gloss/varnishes they stock. They have a loyalty program so for every $100 you spend, you get $5 back. Nice esp if you're a regular you can get a nice little discount. We'll be checking back in a bit to see what new stock is in and when he needs to restock his supplies.

Like Dick's, the associates were helpful, generally, within the limit of what their store can provide and how they have been trained. They have some interesting crap, err, discount merchandise, that could be stocking stuffers or such. But, when at the cashier, the second thing out of your mouth is 'email', then you lose me right there, and for good. You don't need my email to give me a good and fair price.
