If you're looking for your standard market goodness, it can probably be found here. On top of that there's a few more unique vendors including a "Cheese Lady", chocolate covered bacon, Sinsational Cookies and more. If you're looking for fresh fruits and veggies, but someone else you're with just won't have any of those, rest assured they'll have a few sugary goods to select from as well. There's also a playground for small children on the backside of the market, which makes it easy to bring the family! This location is about 1/3 the size of the Bank St. market (from what I've been told) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but may not be what some new folks might expect. The only downside to a smaller market is that there are fewer price points to select from for your produce. Other than that it's a great place!

Parking was surprisingly easy, and once we got started, it was a block and a half of a good time. Now, we did not buy much, but we did enjoy seeing everything and talking to a few people. We were especially excited to buy fruit directly from the farmers! I got a bunch of peaches and nectarines, and let me say I have never in my life tasted such good fruit! I also tried the homemade strawberry & rhubarb pie, and bought the homemade honey with cinnamon. I also especially liked how the Farmer's Market overlooked Silver Beach. It was a nice time, and I look forward to going back before the Farmer's Market season ends this year! May 27th thru October 14th is St. Joe farmer market season meaning every Saturday 9am-2pm you'll…read moresee me buying delicious varieties of deliciousness.  Homeade pop-tarts, fresh cheese and gluten-free cookies are my most frequently bought items.  While I am a regular customer at a few stalls, I stop at every stall to check out the new vendors, see new options and maybe pick up something new I had previously overlooked. Whatever you're looking for, the St. Joe farmers market is a great summer staple that allows you to buy fresh food and enjoy the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan.  If you're here on a Saturday in the summer or early fall, I would definitely try to stop by.

Portage's Vs Kalamazoo's Farmer Market…read more Portage's is a little more upscale than Kalamazoo's. The produce is well arranged and has more pleasing aesthetics. The chalk signs give it a quaint feel. Portage's seemed to be less busy than Kalamazoo's. There were a few of the same vendors (ex. the cheese, the chips/salsa/tamale and the popcorn vendor) and a few that were unique. Kalamazoo has way more food trucks and more "hand made" non-food items. Kalamazoo's is definitely bigger and has a larger variety of produce vendors. Winner: Kalamazoo's Farmers Market

Portage market started out so small, it's grown so fast! They even have sarkozy bakery ! Who can go wrong with that?? I love bringing my kids, letting them pick out what they want. You can use food stamps and they are doubled up, spend $20 in food stamps, get $40 in double up coins. I've been coming for this market for year. Just love it !

We like running through Farmers Markets whenever we are in a new city - and this time we had a…read morechance to visit the South Bend, Indiana Farmer's Market ... and you should too. This Market is a year-round affair, so you can get Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (FFV) during the summer and fall months right from local growers; in the off seasons they purchase out of state FFV and thus are still able to offer better produce than one usually finds in the big supermarkets. This particular Farmer's Market is enclosed - as it would have to be to be year-round in the Midwest. There are roughly 50 individual sellers in the entire setup - which is laid out as a pair of stacked boxes - the middle being washrooms and the like. All the stalls face inside in a double row ... the center portion of the boxes being where sellers can back up their trucks. There is a little diner restaurant on one side that offers a bunch of nice meals - breakfast food and when we were there pulled pork nachos (yum). There is also a bakery stall. They have parking on site, but it is just barely enough for the crowds the Market attracts. We liked this market because it really was mostly FFV and not a bunch of stalls selling candles and the like. There even are a couple of stalls selling meat - at least one fresh and one frozen. Give this place a try and you'll like it.
