It is your friendly neighbourhood liquor store that has the lower prices from the privates and I'm all about saving some coin, especially on the alcohol front. They don't have a huge selection like the one that is across from my work (Cambie-Oakridge) but the prices are the same. They have a recycling area in the back, security guards watching so no one runs off stealing stuff. Parking is pretty good here, as you have the whole of the underground on the Safeway side to park, and walk a few steps and you are in here. Interesting design, as this is an older building, when you enter it's a regular door, with a handicap button, but when you leave, there is a big sliding door that goes sideways (so they must know people leave with shopping carts worth of booze). A good enough selection in terms of countries and regions for wine, as I said... your not getting signature store selection, but regular government prices. The big names, they got em, the smaller ones.. not so much. Considering the location of this one (hidden, a little) at least there is an option here. Just remember those hours of operation, and this is not private, so holidays.. this place ain't open!

Then I met one of workers who helped me out and gave me a wealth of knowledge about everything from whiskey to sake. I wish I would've grabbed his name, but unfortunately I didn't. Although it is a bit pricier than the states, there were some pretty good sales going on. Plus the store is super organized and offers everything from local Canadian Staples like Molson Canadian beer, craft beer from local breweries, whiskey's and sake's and everything in between. Only downside is a bit lacking on the mixers. Highly recommend coming here.

It seems larger than the old location, which is always a good thing. There's a big beer Coldzone in the back. I wish they made it a bit colder though, as the beer I picked up wasn't that cold at all. I found the staff to be quite knowledgeable about the products that they had available. If you're not sure, just look at the staff picks by name on the shelves, and ask that person for help. I was able to pickup a few great Scotches here that aren't typically available at BC Liquor stores.

It has been a few times when I am wandering through the store looking for a gift. Today, I was probably one minute in the store when Francis approached me to ask if I needed help. He had a paper in his hand and I knew he was in the middle of something. Regardless, he answer my question about a wine for my boss and made a recommendation. Disappointed, I mentioned that unfortunately the wine was sold out. He ask me if I could wait a couple of minutes while he was going to get three bottles of his recommendation that had jut arrived. I mean, this is the definition of goin above and beyond. In the mean time Angelo, another staff that happened to be restocking the BC wines was also helping me. I want to say this is the best liquor store with the most helpful, kind, and knowledgable staff. I then asked Jerry, at the cashier if it was possible to speak with the Supervisor. Jerry very kindly called the supervisor and took me to her. Candy, was the Supervisor in turn and she was so appreciative for the acknowledgement I expressed about the unparalleled service at this store. We were fortunate enough to snag a tiny one by the pool tables but it wasn't big enough for food and drinks so we ended up moving before ordering food. We shared a small plate of nachos and a chicken wrap with fries. I don't recommend the guacamole, as it wasn't very fresh and just had a weird texture. The food was very average in my opinion. At least they have a decent beer list. They had karaoke and there was a steady stream of people waiting to take their turn on the microphone. Those folks were much braver than me, that's for sure. I love that they still have pull tab machines, those are always going to take some of my money, if for nothing else but the nostalgia. I ended up winning a few bucks, so that added to the overall positive experience. Service was ok - there seemed to be a bit of confusion over who our server was, but once that was resolved, we had no issues. It was fairly loud but not so much that we couldn't still carry on a conversation. I'd probably go back, because there are not too many places in the area that still have a pool table.
