Stopped in here with a friend for a drink and bite to eat on a Saturday night. It was really busy with almost no empty tables. We were fortunate enough to snag a tiny one by the pool tables but it wasn't big enough for food and drinks so we ended up moving before ordering food. We shared a small plate of nachos and a chicken wrap with fries. I don't recommend the guacamole, as it wasn't very fresh and just had a weird texture. The food was very average in my opinion. At least they have a decent beer list. They had karaoke and there was a steady stream of people waiting to take their turn on the microphone. Those folks were much braver than me, that's for sure. I love that they still have pull tab machines, those are always going to take some of my money, if for nothing else but the nostalgia. I ended up winning a few bucks, so that added to the overall positive experience. Service was ok - there seemed to be a bit of confusion over who our server was, but once that was resolved, we had no issues. So it was Game 7 of the NBA finals, and the various other locales I stopped at along Kingsway seemed to have no interest in that game. I thought, "There has got to be a pub nearby which will by default carry that game, right?" Well, yes, that's technically correct, although it took me about a two kilometer walk from the Element Vancouver to find one. Once there, I was a tad surprised the place wasn't hopping - maybe a dozen or so other patrons. This is a popular neighborhood pub serving the area. Parking is available in the lot and it does get crowded on weekends. There are daily specials and happy hours. And activities on different nights. Saturday night is karaoke and it is surprisingly entertaining. People do like to sing here! Great fun! The drinks are very affordable here. The most popular dish seems to be the wings. Many tables have that. Wednesday night is wings night at $9 a plate. About 10 wings in there. It is $10 a plate every night from 9 pm. There are pool tables at one side of the room. Tried the wings here after a friend's recommendation. Okay they have seriously good wings here. Recommended. As of the time of writing, wings are $9/lb on Wednesdays. Normal price is $14. Buddies and I tried 3 flavours. All of them were good. My favourite was the lemon pepper (dry rub), followed by Caribbean jerk, and honey garlic. They don't skimp on the sauce, and the dipping sauce (ranch?) goes very well with the wings. Definitely need to come by more on Wednesdays. Recommended. read more

I was in the area and stopped by here one afternoon for a drink. The space is very big and can accommodate a lot of people. My server was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had on the menu or any drinks they had at the time. I love the Great Bear Pub. B and I came here on Wednesday to take advantage of the wings deal here. It is $9 per lb. on Wednesday. It came with a small dip and some veggies. There are a few flavors of wings to choose from at Great Bear Pub. The wings were good size. Best of all there is no rules when ordering the wings. Other than the Wednesday special, they also have happy hour special and daily special on other days. I also got their happy hour calamari special for $10. That was very tasty as well. Good portion size. Everything here were fresh and on point. No complaint. Service was great. At night they have Karaoke. Also they have Pool Table games along with darts. Looks like a fun hang out place. B and I came here to just to have wings. If you have friends in town and looking for some activities at night, I suggest coming to Great Bear Pub. We stop in every couple of months when we are in Burnaby. Always pleased with the food (tacos and wings!), drinks and service. Lots of TV's to watch a game and they also have pool tables and darts. Definitely not trendy or fancy - just decent bar food and cocktails in a casual setting. read more

We had a pretty good experience for our first time coming here while visiting Vancouver. We got the Street Side Tacos with the Ancho Chicken which was delicious but spicy!!! Good spicy but spicy :) Also got the Beef Dip and the Perogie and Chorizo with house salad. All the food was really good. The beef dip was good but didn't come out exactly the way we ordered it but they fixed it and it was great. The staff was nice and we will plan on being back next time we're in town. read more

I've always passed this place while either taking transit or driving, but I've never gone in. Which is unfortunate. The drinks are fairly priced and they have a decent happy hour menu. They have darts and a pool table inside which is a plus, and they seem to always have something going on each night of the week. The washrooms are clean and actually a little surprising. If you go into the men's bathroom, just over the 3 urinals there's 3 wall decorations of women posted to the top of the urinals (I guess your supposed to stare) as you empty yourself. One with a woman in a bikini, one as a secretary, and one as a photographer. When I went to the bathroom I found it funny that the men going in kept choosing the woman with the bikini The food here is also decent. My friend ordered the steak/beef bites which came with fries. He was on a keto diet so he gave me the fries. The fries were great, nice and crispy (had a coating) with the center being soft. The plate also came with celery/carrot sticks which were fresh (no dryness/discolouration). Overall, a great place to check out if your ever in the area. I'd definitely be back. The service can be slow at times, but I was told that on UFC nights the place is usually packed by 7pm. I highly recommend you check this place out if your in the area. read more

Went for dinner on a Monday night. We both ordered a burger and fries. I've never had a burger this dry in years! Almost no rosemary garlic aioli. A comical loonie-sized circle. What about the other 85% of the burger? One piece of lettuce and generous unripe tomato. We asked for mustard, hoping it would help. Marginally. Maybe mention to the kitchen a brioche bun is quite nice lightly toasted? And that salt/seasoning on a pre-formed beef patty goes a long way. Fries were the only saving grace. They infuse their own vodka!!!! Let me say that slower: They... Infuse... Their... Own... Vodka. It's amazing. Bacon vodka? Hell yes. The perfect appetizer! Chipotle Pepper Vodka? In a ceasar, dinner is done. Jelly Bean Vodka and Vanilla Vodka? The most delicious desserts! Espresso Vodka? An after dinner treat and the easiest way to Irish up that Martini I am hooked. They have a great drink menu, an awesome selection of craft beer and guess what? The food is good! On Wednesday they have $0.35 wings; we needed a lot to soak up all that vodka. I highly recommend the Szechuan (kinda of like an amazing Teriyaki), the sweet heat and the sea salt & lime. The dry ribs are also delicious. What a find! 3.5 stars! I have had a much better experience here over my last couple of visits. In particular, I found that the food and service quality has greatly improved. On my last visit, we ordered a round of appetizers - Street Side Chicken Tacos, Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Reuben Sliders, and Sweet Heat Chicken Wings; and some drinks. Previously, my complaints with respect to the food had a lot to do with the fact that it came out cold (which made it seemed less fresh). However, I did not have that problem at all these last couple of times around. All of the appetizers we ordered were delicious and fresh. I would honestly order them all again, in addition to recommending them to anyone who has yet to try. - Street Side Tacos - The chicken was very well-seasoned and very juicy. - Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip - The dip is creamy and addictive. - Reuben Sliders - The dijon and sauerkraut really adds to the overall taste. - Sweet Heat Chicken Wings - Flavour is great and the wings were piping hot on the inside. The manager here is very in touch with ensuring his customers are satisfied. After my previous review, he was very interested in getting feedback on what could be improved. As a customer, I appreciate that immensely ... especially seeing the amount of effort that has been invested into making improvements! I've eaten here twice and both times the food was delicious! Very reasonably priced as well, I mean $16 for a steak with potatoes and vegetables is pretty good. The service wasn't good at all. I was there with three other people, not 10 or 20, and the server forgot to take my drink and food order twice. It wasn't that busy either and I didn't see her serving any other table so I don't know what her issue was. She never checked up on us, other than to make sure my boyfriend was okay, yikes. The Sunday karaoke is AMAZING - huge live sound - lights, smoke, digital song books - tons and tons of song choices! You can play electric darts and pool behind a glassed area - so the karaoke is less intrusive if it ain't your thing. Nice patio outside for smokers and enjoy the sun - with great built in heaters for when it chills down. Plenty of craft beer choices and friendly and efficient staff! I'm quite happy to have found this place. It's about a 30 minute walk from my digs, and has quality food and attentive, friendly staff. It's a great place to unwind with a book on a weekday afternoon (I work early mornings and weekends, so nightlife is not my thing). The menu is a little above your standard pub fare. It has the burgers, wings, and appies you would expect, but everything is a little bit fresher and they use quality ingredients - nothing tastes 'just like Costco.' I had the clubhouse sandwich, and they scored big points for two reasons: 1) Crispy bacon. 2) Real roasted turkey, not cold cuts. Oh! make that three reasons. There was real cheddar cheese. They feature a brunch on Sundays from 11 -2 that I'm itching to try. I figure any time you can get waffles and roast beef in the same meal, you gotta go. read more

No sour cream or salsa to accompany them (unless you would like them as a side, for an additional $2.00)... They are prepared with their own house made salsa verde, an drizzled with some weird quickly congealing possibly chipotle flavored sauce, and once you rifled through them looking for less soaked nachos, there was a smear of bean paste at the bottom of the plate, like a surprise you didn't want. So - I added on sour cream for $2.00, and we asked for hot sauce - which is a chargeable extra at $0.50. Nope. Never again. Did quite enjoy my Fat Tug, though, but it's not made there, so there's that... Yet I keep coming back (although with slightly less enthusiasm with each visit). I would highly advise against the calamari - tiny, chopped up pieces, TOUGH, overly breaded and bland! - that's been the worst. Drinks are okay. Good selection on tap. Whiskey sours taste like an artificial pre-mix. Odd. I find the cost for both the drinks and food a smidge high for the area & the quality you get. Their brunch is decent, basic and a good deal. All that said, I like the neighbourhood pub atmosphere - it's relaxed, it's open late, the karaoke is amusing, the varied menu satisfies different cravings, and there aren't many pub options around. read more

This place is one of my favorites for wings. Cheap, decent food, rotating taps and a good atmosphere. The servers are pretty sad though. We had to ask for menus more than once, and the wings took forever to come up (+30 mins). This place would be a 4.5 star if it wasn't for the service Go when it's super dead or be prepared to be super patient with your server. I had a good experience in this pub (excellent Reuben sandwich & good service), but I was extremely disappointed by their policy of not serving pints: exclusively sleeves for all beers outside of where the manufacturer prohibits serving beer in a sleeve (e.g. Guinness, Kronenberg). I asked for a pint & received a sleeve, which is just a sad state of affairs in any self-respecting pub. Change that policy & serve proper pints (or at least give patrons the option)! read more

I was a long time Patron of the Bear Pub, but not any longer. I had decided to boycott the pub as the service got worse and the place wasn't being looked after...such as the main TV above the bar not working for 6 months....which I found out yesterday got replaced. A friend asked me to stop by and say hi and see it for myself....so I did, only to find out that I was barred from there. I asked the bartender why I was not welcome there....his answer was that I went online and complained about the lousy service, so they do not want me there. A different approach to fixing the lousy service.....just get rid of the people speaking out. They will run out of customers if that is how they are going to deal with it. They do have some good staff like Angela and Brittany......but for the most part, very poor service. There are many other regulars there who also hate the service, but don't speak up. They feel because it is close to where they live, so just put up with the lousy service. Maybe they have the right idea, cause if you do speak up, you are asked not to come back.
