The best Mexican food I've had since moving to NYC. I would even say this place is just as good as some of the best of them in LA, San Antonio and San Diego, and is such a great value. Well worth the trip to Sunset Park. I absolutely love how they make their tacos here. The tortillas are nicely soft and warm. I almost thought they were handmade, but the server corrected me they were just purchased from a local spot. I really loved the big scoop of guacamole on the large tacos. $3.50 is an insane deal for these tacos. Shrimp taco is one of the best bites I've had in my life, get it! Everything I've had is so good here. Especially the nachos. Did I tell you beers are only $5 and margaritas are only $6.50? They also have the best frozen margaritas. Came here with friends and tried their tacos many times. I recommend their el pastor and Barbacoa taco! They give more meat than the food trucks and the price is affordable as well. I didn't really order a lot, just got rice and beans, some guac and chips, and chalupas. food was great, although the guacamole wasn't my favorite. it definitely wasn't the worst I've had so I'd give it a 7/10. service wise, the staff was very helpful and friendly. and ultimately, in terms of atmosphere, it's a family friendly restaurant. they also offer kid friendly food options. would recommend going to if you're going with a big group because it's pretty affordable:) read more

Jalapeños is a local fav for Spanish speakers and English speakers alike. On a Friday or Saturday night they will be packed full with smiling families. While pretty much everything I've had on the menu is good, the enchiladas verde and mole are our household staples. We go often, and the food is delicious and prepared exactly the same every time, with a nice portion of rice and beans and three generously sized enchiladas decked out with crema fresca and onions. The chocolate shake (batido) is super chocolatey and delicious, they blend them up for a nice froth, but skip out on the horchata, of which there's better pretty much anywhere else in the hood. read more

I would definitely recommend getting the large instead of the small. The large comes with guacamole in it and adds an extra dimension to the taco. The green sauce that comes with it is pretty good as well. It has a tangy, acidic, slightly spicy taste that works well with the fatty meat. Tortillas were homemade and the tacos really hit the spot. Lived here my whole life. A lover of food, an enjoyer of convenience, and a praiser when deserved. I love Jalapeños. I remember when they first opened up and I decided to support a new business. I was instantly impressed by their menu variety, food quality, and great prices. This place isn't a Tacombi, On the Border, or Mexicue. Chains can be yummy but this is a no frills, true to Mexican-flavor restaurant, not tex-mex, American style, but the closest thing to Mexico in New York. They're great with accommodating and I've rarely to never has an order gone wrong. Whether eating at home(I usually deliver) to ordering at the restaurant, it's always yummy. No shade to other reviewers because we all experience different things, but although my Spanish is lacking I've personally never had issues with ordering food with servers not speaking English. Funny, I often write reviews for places I don't frequent too often, but as I ordered it for the nth time tonight I decided I should finally write a review for such a staple in my delivery menu pile. read more

After popping in to Alimentos Saludables for tamales decided to try another Mexican restaurant for something else. Had the small pastor taco which was pretty impressive: moist, tender, subtly spiced pork with a hits of pineapple on hot off the grill, ever so slightly crunchy, tortillas. Worth trying some others! The pipian verde chicken was also moist and tender, but the spicing wasn't anything special. Accompanying rice and refried beans were fine. The space is clean and freshly painted, and the staff sweet. But the lack of soft surfaces means it's very echoey. Wasn't anywhere near full and already was quite loud. read more

Friendly service, reasonable prices, and very good food and drink. We started with a pitcher of frozen margaritas. Very satisfying and nicely priced. Queso fundido with chorizo was next. Also very good with a generous amount of chorizo. For our main course we ordered a carne asada burrito and a chile relleno. Both well prepared, fresh, tasty and hot. New Mexican spot on 5th avenue Jalapeños which I been spying for a while. Finally opened and got to check it out. Ordered 3 tacos small and some guacamole. 1 - pastor **** 1 - carne asada **** 1 - pollo asada **** If you order large tacos they come with the guacamole. The small tacos were quite fulfilling and delish. I also had the Verde Tamale which was ehhh! Really not great, I am pretty biased on tamales cause I eat them fresh every weekend. They do have an extensive menu and since Matamoros had closed across the street this is the new spot. Pretty large layout for seating and I hope they can be consistent with the presentation and quality of food they put out now. Not bad and shall return for more!!! P.S. I ordered the Mole Poblano beef enchiladas which comes with side of beans and rice. It was all delicious. Everything seasoned for taste buds. That mole sauce is savory and chocolatey.
