Really not a fan of doctors who don't listen to and try to talk over their patients…read more I made this appointment because I have a long running, chronic, sinus condition involving inflammation, nose bleeds and heavy mucus production (going on 15 years at this point) that has slowly worsened. What I wanted was someone to put a scope up into my sinuses to see what exactly was going on in there, and to discuss if maybe there was some surgical option to improve my quality of life. Long story short - we never got around to either of those. As soon he found out that I sometimes take a generic version of Afrin to treat my symptoms, he became hyper-fixated on that and repeatedly tried to lecture me on it's dangers and basically blamed that for all of my problems. When I tried to point out I'd only started taking the generic Afrin-like drug during the last couple years, so it couldn't have been the fundamental problem here, he tried blaming my teenage allergies - which didn't make any sense because: 1. They ceased being a major problem years before my sinus issue started, and 2. They never affected my sinuses in the first place (I was/am allergic to some spring time pollen that makes my eyes bloodshot and itchy). Not that the doctor was at all listening by that point - he was too busy claiming that his 35 years of being a doctor meant that he knew what he was talking about (even though he didn't even bother giving me a through examination, just shined a light into my nostrils) and showing off the dozen or so bottles of Afrin he'd taken from previous patients. I ended up leaving with a prescription for Prednisone and some advice on how to use Claritin, Flonase and saline sinus flushing correctly, in exchange for a $325 bill. Not what I wanted and not worth the cost. I suppose I'll try getting the prescription filled and following the advice - maybe it'll help, but if it ends up making my condition even worse, I'm sure a medical malpractice lawyer won't be hard to find. In any case, I don't believe I'll be visiting Dr. Mamikunian again.

I have never had such support and one on one information and follow up. How often does your surgeon call you the next day (following surgery) to check in personally? Even prior to the surgery center? I am glad I have one nose but he is someone I would 100% recommend. In even healing, I talked with a friend about him and she was in agreement after having the same surgery. I would shout this from the rooftops. He is the absolute best! That being said, his assistant in the office and the front office staff help with getting questions to him immediately and are very supportive and helpful as well.

Surgery Center of Alaska employees Valencia and Nancy in the billing department only care about…read moremoney and do not care about people. I wanted to share my experience, hoping that this will help other people not get bullied into paying bills upfront. If you have insurance, which I do, you are not obligated to pay anything except for your deductible. I had unexpected surgery, and it got scheduled at the Surgery Center of Anchorage. I received a call from Nancy in the billing department regarding going over my insurance and payment. She told me the overall total was around $11,000. She then mentioned that I needed to pay the remainder of my deductible, $1,102.58. Then, I needed an additional $2,100.42 for what my insurance does not cover. Let me begin with that, and she had her math right. I told her that my responsibility is just my deductible, and then you can invoice me. I do not pay anything without knowing what I paid for and have a track record. I know my insurance. It is a $1500 deductible with a $3,500 max out of pocket and 80/20. However, this is not a typical guideline for a medical practice to pay upfront. On top of that, she refused to give me an invoice. Why would I hand anyone money blindly with no invoice before the surgery? I called my insurance, and they told me exactly what I thought they would and said I am only responsible for my deductible at this time if they ask for a collection. They are not following the guidelines that they are supposed to. I then called my PCP and explained the issue. She said to try and call back and speak to a manager. If they would not accept just my deductible, we can cancel the surgery with them and schedule it at Alaska Regional (Keep in mind that my surgery was one hour away now). I called back and asked to speak to a manager, waited on hold for almost 10 minutes, and then Valencia Elsberry picked up. I introduced myself and explained the situation and my conversation with Nancy. I also explained that I spoke to my insurance about how I am only responsible for my deductible at this time, and it is required to have an invoice. Valencia's said, "Well, that sounds nice, but that is not how it works here." I was so shocked by her choice of words and her delivery. Highly unprofessional and should not be in a manager role. I understand that they are a private practice, but that does not change that you still need to follow guidelines, and where is the care? Also, I wanted to point out this was my first surgery, and it came a little unexpectedly. They did nothing but stress me out the entire time. How are they in business if this is how they treat people? Looking at the other reviews, I am not the only one with the same experience. So.... that alone shows you this is an ongoing problem. Nancy and Valencia need to be held accountable for treating people and manipulating and bullying people into getting them to pay everything up front, even with insurance. With that said, I called back my PCP, and they canceled it at the Surgery Center of Alaska and scheduled me at Alaska Regional the same day. Alaska regional asked for my insurance information, and that was it! It was simple, stress-free, welcoming, and they took great care of me. I am so glad I stood up and switched. The insurance will take care of everything, and then I will receive an invoice for then I will be responsible for paying. That is the guideline, period. Surgery Center of Alaska only cares about money and does not care about people. However, they ended up losing $11,000. Interesting how that worked out. I have reported this company and hope they get a wide awakening, start caring for people and get a new entire team in the billing department. To anyone out there reading this, thinking about going here, I want you to remember you have the choice on where you go. Also, ALWAYS call your insurance and follow what the guidelines are. Although your insurance company will steer you in the right direction, they will tell you what other places they work. Remember, you have options, and you do not have to go here! I was referred to Anchorage Oral and Implant Surgery by my regular Dentist, to have 4 broken molars…read moreremoved under IV sedation, as I'm very scared of going to the dentist. I had a successfully avoided the dentist surgery for 32 years, until pain from these broken teeth took me into the Dentist office. My regular dentist thought it better to have me sedated, and sent me to Dr Sashi to get the work done. I admit to being quite terrified - even just getting in one of those tilt-back chairs has me a nervous wreck. Tristan was my dental technician, and she was very warm, kind, understanding and welcoming. She took some kind of X-ray, where i had to sit, and put my chin in a tray, and it took no time. Dr. Sashi examined my mouth, and he explained everything. I said "Are you good?" (Trying to inject humour into the situation, to ease my nerves) and he said "I'm very good" i said i like that confidence! I knew he was good from all the reviews I'd seen about him. I was taken through to my treatment room, and given a blanket. I had a blood pressure cuff attached, sensors on my chest and stomach, a finger device, an oxygen tube into my nostrils, and the IV was started. This took, what seemed like seconds to get all this done. The injection to start the IV was quite literally painless, i barely even felt it. However, i didn't immediately fall asleep, so i started getting nervous like "Hey, I'm awake over here" But the next thing i know, I'm awake, with a big ice bandage round my head, and gauzes sticking out of my mouth. Quite dizzy, and not able to walk well yet. My friend who had driven me to the appointment, and waited while the surgery was completed was in the room waiting to escort me. I was mumbling, probably nonsense, and hugging all the staff in sight *facepalm* but i was quite loopy from the anaesthesia, so i can be forgiven for this. I was given an aftercare package, that is very thorough, and has do's and don'ts, and what you should be doing on each day following surgery. I haven't experienced a huge amount of pain either and i had turned down strong painkillers, but was told to call back for a prescription if i felt i needed it. Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen has managed my pain levels thus far. I am very happy with my extractions, and the stellar treatment i received at this Dental Surgery, and Dr. Sashi is indeed "Very good!" I do recommend this place.

Recovery has always been surprisingly fast to me, suggesting to me the damage was minimal. I've used some of the medication to reduce swelling, but never any of the serious pain meds. Just didn't need them.
